Vigilante #6: "The Eyes of Joseph Wilson"

Last week on his blog, Marv Wolfman wrote, "I wanted to remind everyone that Vigilante #6 is on sale next Wednesday. Vig 6 is the final part of the Deathtrap crossover with the Titans, and I can promise you it will have a very controversial ending. When the guys at DC told me what they had planned, even my gasted was flabbered. The ending is shocking, yes, but it's also a logical one and will be built on in the future."

Only thing shocking I see here is the suspenders covering Donna's boobs. Dammit, V-neck, WHYYYY? The halter and necklace combo was so nice!

Also, possibly Raven's pose there in the first panel, which I'd expect more of Starfire than Rae; and Ravager's dyeing her hair blonde. But other than that...

I can't even see *Donna* when her costume's like that. I look at her and I think "oh some random Titans character I haven't heard of." Then somebody says her name and I'm like "oh yeah, that's supposed to be Donna Troy." It's a weird but ultimately rather satisfactory mental block.

(I will say, that's pretty decent characterization by the art team there in the final panel, with most of them being shocked and horrified, but Roy and Donna being more calmly grim. Though I feel like Kory should also be less "whoa" and more "rar.")

Well, you know how couples sometimes share clothes? Kory was wearing Donna's uniform and thought "Oh, this would look much better as a halter!" and went to a tailor to surprise her. In retaliation, Donna later made Kory wear pants.

I've been working off the theory that Diana vandalized it, finally having reached her breaking point with Donna's tendency to violate Wonder Family standard by occasionally wearing costumes that aren't stupid.

That sounds like something Cassie would do... after a night with Diana of grousing about how they have to wear certain costumes because the public finds them "iconic."

Luckily, Diana has the patience of Athena, otherwise she'd be all "girl, you wear JEANS. Cry to me when bikini waxing is part of your superheroic duties!"

It kills me how obvious it is that whoever thought it was a good idea to drop the V that far had no substantial personal experience with breasts. It was clearly someone who thinks breasts are hard, solid, fixed masses that wouldn't, oh, get pulled down by gravity when you wander around obviously not wearing a goddamn bra, or get slingshot around and fall out of your "shirt" when you are maybe doing aerobic activity like fighting. And since whatever the hell is attached to her chest is very clearly not breasts, she now looks miles less sexy than she did when she was wearing the halter, because my subconscious is too busy going "WTF" to register anything else.

Maybe we can trade the "cleavage" in and get high-heeled boots instead? They'd be a lot more palatable on Donna, who can just fly wherever she wants anyway.
