Character development? Not when Tony Daniel's on the job!

Edward Nygma was just caught in a bomb blast.

To prevent spoilers, please do not put in a tag for the Riddler.

cause your proposal isn't about him as a villain, just him as a jerk, while this seems like he's back to being a villain.

My proposal was about him as an anti-heroic protagonist. :)

show me an "anti-heroic protagonist" who isn't a jerk.

A jerk that I enjoy, then. :)

Moreover, a jerk with the capacity to evolve.

See, if you'd been writing the Riddler up til this point? I'd be insanely angry. Tragically, this is not the case. But I wish it could have been.

Here's hoping he gets at least a little of his dignity back...

...Dignity? We're talking about the freakin' Riddler here. When exactly has he ever had anything resembling dignity? Gorshin-inspired Riddler's been a joke, but in the best cases with the self-awareness to make him funny... For all your badmouthing Dini, he's one of the first to give the Riddler style, wearing a business suit and being a charming loser-type, and most of his characterization was balanced on that. ...Of course there was ...Winnick's? take on the Riddler as a murderous metrosexual... but I don't think anyone likes that.
His entire gig was 'He leaves clues behind to his crimes, Batman figures them out with often times minimal effort, Riddler get caught and goes to Arkham' That's. It. That was his role for pretty much his entire career, I mean, he even managed to skip over the grim and grittying of the rest of Batman's rogues to the point that he didn't even kill people! At least as a detective, Riddler had a new direction in like the 40 years he's been created. ...Seriously, tell me like three interesting things this Riddler could do that wouldn't be the same old tired schtick he's been doing, with minimal change, since the Silver Age.

Shane McCarthy. Better known for All Hail Megatron over at IDW.

I'm not a member here, but I must say that your ideas for the Riddler are quite interesting and is something that I could see myself reading. You actually want to see a character grow and possibly find redemption instead of simply falling back into the same status-quo that other villians get stuck in. That's a trait I see many fans, and writers, lacking today.

Well done.

THAT, right there, is -exactly- what to see done with Eddie.

Why you gotta go and do this, DC.

I thought that's where they were going with the Riddler, and I was liking it. Dislike this new turn (which is just going back to safe, well-tended ground).
