Whatevs, the man is hated up and down the internet but is still chill enough to not be a bitch about it or whine.

A great Liefeld moment is when someone at the somethingawful forums went to ComicCon where Liefeld was signing and asked him to draw him a pouch. Liefeld did it, he knows he's hated by like 90% of Internet comic fans but he's still gracious to fans and he didn't lose his temper when someone insulted him to his face at a Con.

Dude is okay in my book

He also complained when one of his characters was written as gay.

Maybe he didn't like the direction for reasons other than homophobia?

I don't know.

I just think it's cool that a guy essentially embodies an entire decade of comics, for better or worse, that's pretty cool.

To be fair, I also thought Onslaught was really cool when I was a kid so eh

Except that he embodies everything about that decade that made me want to QUIT comics, which is NOT cool with me.

"Zeitgeist" itself is not an inherently good thing, if only because there are several eras of history, in various categories, that are themselves inherently BAD.

Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I thought Onslaught was really fun, I was a dumb little kid.

Plus, I'd rather have Liefeld than anything on Teen Titans, Ultimatum, or any of the terrible Marvel Zombies shit.

There are plenty of things that I grew up with, that I can appreciate as nostalgia objects, that I would absolutely not tolerate if they were done by current artists (see also: the incredibly bad animation standards of 90 percent of all 1980s cartoons). Art is supposed to EVOLVE and IMPROVE, and art that doesn't NEEDS TO GO EXTINCT.

Also, you continue to defend your choices as either/or alternatives, as though we MUST support Liefeld OR the current crop of shitty stories, whereas I refuse to endorse "the lesser of two evils" in art. If it's shit, it's shit, no matter WHAT it's compared to, and I'm not going to forgive Rob's shitty work even if I DO accept that there are people who are even WORSE.

Look bro, give me one artist these days who draws pouches with the same passion, the same panache, the same, do I dare.., majesty and Mr. Liefeld?

This man gave us teh shocking revelation of Captain America with breasts! A story point which shockwaves to this very day.

Check out the relatively recent issue of Teen Titans he DID do... it's literally painful to look at.

It's just nostalgia.

It's interesting, once you have a few years under your belt (and have, hopefully, read the work of more interesting and accomplished comics artists and writers), to go back and look at things that you used to like to see how well they age. Non-comics example: When I was a little kid, I used to think that Pippi Longstocking was the shit, and upon re-reading some of the stories as an adult, I realized why: she was independently wealthy, had superhuman strength, and no adult supervision whatsoever--a perfect kid's fantasy, but not really any substance there. Other books fared better; Little Toot, for example, not only has brilliant art, but is an incredibly compelling story about what it's like to be a kid who's terrified by the adult world.

Also, by comparing it to Ultimatum, you're setting the bar so low that the only reason that anyone wouldn't be able to clear it was that they might not see it and trip over it.

Except when Peter David shows Shatterstar and Rictor kissing.

Reading the wikipedia he just said he wanted Shatterstar (who I have no clue about in any way) to be asexual. It doesn't sound like he hates gays or anything.

That would be one thing, yeah, but the way Liefeld explained it was that "he was from a society where sexuality was ignored" or something and well ... it doesn't work that way.

It's true that doesn't make any sense - but his objection is still based on something other than homophobia and hatred.

Wait, the guy is from an alternate dimension's future where he was grown in a gestation chamber instead of born, and this is a future ruled by Mojo, a spineless (literally) blob whose gladiator like TV programs are his only concern. But that this future might be asexual is the point at which you lose your suspension of disbelief?

Why do people ask rhetorical questions like that?

"Oh, Kara can fly, but it's her boob hole where you can't believe it?"

I heard that Fabian Nicieza, who co-created him (and did more w/his character than Liefeld), was planning on having him develop a sexuality. So it's not like he was going to remain asexual forever.

Whatevs, the man is hated up and down the internet but is still chill enough to not be a bitch about it or whine.

Of course not, because he's profiteering off of other people's work.

Oh, and you might want to look up his feud with Kurt Busiek for an example of him "bitching" online, in that case specifically because Busiek was one of COUNTLESS people who was LIED to by Rob in their business dealings, and the fact that Busiek even MENTIONS this is huge, because Kurt is the most drama-free comics creator EVER.

Bottom line: Liefeld lies to fellow creators and fans alike, tells terrible stories and produces equally terrible art, and is sitting on a mint of money.

I do recall hearing that, yeah. Wasn't there also some drama with Liefeld and drugs? I thought I heard that somewhere, though it's probably just rumor.

I have to object there: there's no way Liefeld's stories are as terrible as his art at its most terrible.

Well, no one ever said he was a bad guy (or at least that's not usually what they say), just that he can't draw for shit. I'm sure he's a perfectly lovely man.
