Whatevs, the man is hated up and down the internet but is still chill enough to not be a bitch about it or whine.

Except when Peter David shows Shatterstar and Rictor kissing.

Reading the wikipedia he just said he wanted Shatterstar (who I have no clue about in any way) to be asexual. It doesn't sound like he hates gays or anything.

That would be one thing, yeah, but the way Liefeld explained it was that "he was from a society where sexuality was ignored" or something and well ... it doesn't work that way.

It's true that doesn't make any sense - but his objection is still based on something other than homophobia and hatred.

Wait, the guy is from an alternate dimension's future where he was grown in a gestation chamber instead of born, and this is a future ruled by Mojo, a spineless (literally) blob whose gladiator like TV programs are his only concern. But that this future might be asexual is the point at which you lose your suspension of disbelief?

Why do people ask rhetorical questions like that?

"Oh, Kara can fly, but it's her boob hole where you can't believe it?"

Well, it's not quite the same thing. The Kara bit is about what choices a developed charter would make. The other is someone deciding they know how sexuality would work in a dystopian alternate future where people are apparently grown instead of born.

Yes, and either he's not human so that's possible, or he is human and sexuality is innate.

But does the fact that he was grown in a gestation chamber not allow for possible genetic engineering that would remove such drives? And since the world he's from has been enslaved by Mojo for an undefined period of time and is a century in the future, it's possible that sexuality has been engineered out by that point for easier control.

I'm not defending Liefeld for raising a stink about this, but if he had actually wrote 'no sexuality' into Shatterstar's past he would have some right to be upset at his work being erased. But as it is, Shatterstar's worlds sexuality has never been established, so PAD is free to write whatever he wants with the charcters.

Yes, except the way he wrote it was that "he was raised without sex" and that's not how humans work. GE wasn't mentioned.

That's true. But 'raised without sex' dosn't mention how he would have done it in the story. GE wasn't mentioned, but it wasn't excluded.

But I'm just saying that a future dystopian society where sex isn't a factor is definitely a possibility as far as fiction goes. And I honestly think that a charcter from such a place could be an interesting one.

Nicieza was pretty up front with the matter with fans at the time, so it is a shame that the matter gets confused to this day, but, for the record, Nicieza's take on Shatterstar was as follows: Shatterstar was, for all intents and purposes, raised asexual. There were no notions of sexuality in Shatterstar's upbringing, so Shatterstar was going to have to learn as he went along on Earth. Nicieza's position was that Shatterstar did not, as of yet, have feelings, heterosexual OR homosexual.

Nicieza was planning on exploring that more if he stayed on X-Force, and it might very well have resulted in Shatterstar being gay, but it was not necessarily Nicieza's intent (you know, like he had not already determined, "He is unsure, but when he figures it out, it'll definitely be that he's gay), and it was not why he left the title.

I heard that Fabian Nicieza, who co-created him (and did more w/his character than Liefeld), was planning on having him develop a sexuality. So it's not like he was going to remain asexual forever.

You're arguing with a guy who thinks Rob Liefeld is "chill."
