Jason and Tim.... a different kind of brotherly first meeting....
Jason and Tim first meet.

Not exactly brotherly love at first sight....

From Teen Titans 29, written by Geoff Johns. Posting after talking with both [info]lipsofpoison and [info]runespoor7. (Seven & a half scans I believe)

Jason's snuck into the Teen Titans tower. He doesn't want to be bothered, obviously, so has to knock out the rest of the team.
This is the first time we really hear Jason's inner voice. He knocks out Cyborg and Beast Boy, saying since he never really worked with them, he doesn't *entirely* feel bad for knocking them out the way he does.

I really like the way Johns wrote Jason's inner monologue. This conflicted sense of self and also not completely without some compassion (the way he puts Raven out)

THE YELLOW TIGHTS.... JASON WHY CAN'T YOU DRESS YOURSELF?!

Jason goes into the hall of fallen Titans and asks where his memorial statue is. "I was a Titan, too!"

And Jay leaves Tim there on the floor.

I really, really don't think Jason went there to kill Tim whatsoever. It was more of a test. Test of mettle, merit, w/e. But I guess, in Jason's off-kilter mind, Tim passed.

Yeah, I'd've been happy if Jay had stuck to his "capes are for suckers" philosophy for a while, got his head on straight. Maybe gone the Nightwing route and become a non-Bat hero.

I sorta wish the new Vigilante had been revealed as Jason. Unlikely, but it woulda been cool.

Are you talking about Red Hood?

Pretty sure it IS Jason.

I mean other than the actual issue and the ENDING and the characterization of the Red Hood; there's the wall evidence, Morrison saying Jason was going to show up in B&R #4; and I think in an interview somewhere he said Philip Tan was going to draw Jason. (At least that's what I read... somewhere. My memory of source is alluding me right now...)

If it's not Jason, I will eat my words in a bowl of soup. ;-P

Wow, I follow that link, and the first thing I see is Raven in porn-pose.

I wanted him to become Red Robin and join the Suicide Squad just to fuck up Bruce's mind. I imagine he will be going through seizures because on one side he is working villains and *killing* people (even if it is bad guys) which is against Bruce's moral code but at the same time he is still his son and as a dad, he is worried about his safety.

Also it would have been much better is he was Red Robin instead of Tim in the post-BftC Bat-verse. Imagine, young Jason Todd travels the world following in Bruce's footsteps to find himself and his new purpose in life. It practically writes itself. All the while, Tim stays with the Teen Titans with Steph, Kon and Bart and takes a break from being Robin for a while (Lord knows that kid needs one). He could become some kind of 'Oracle' type of figure for the team, filling in for Babs.

Both options are delicious. T-T (Though I prefer the suicide squad one, since it forces Jason to interact with a team for more than one issue).

Actually I prefer the second option, of him traveling throughout Europe. There aren't many heroes much less anti-heroes who travel the from country to country or from city to city. Also Europe seems to be a very interesting place, rich in history that you could actually weave into a good story. I have been thinking of writing a fan fiction regarding that but I haven't got around to it and I have a bunch of other ideas I want to do and not to mention studying.

According to the Batman Annual that featured Jason's OYL "origin" he did exactly that after he left Talia and Ra's and the Lazarus Pit, following Bruce's training path through Asia but deliberately not using the same teachers. That's where/when he adopted the kris as his signature blade.

But yeah, I wouldn't mind having current-Jason stop Batting around to just "walk the earth" like Kane in Kung Fu for a while.

Yes, but that wasn't really a journey for self discovery or for anything positive for that matter.

True. OTOH, Tim's doing that in Europe as we speak, and look how boringly well that's working out for him.... maybe we should specify we'd like this kind of trip with a Jason-friendly writer? I know Winick is reviled, not unjustly, for many things, but he might could make something pretty good out of this kind of storyline for Jason. It could be a backup feature, like Ravager's got in Teen Titans now.

Tim did his tour of the sensei's of Europe during his first weeks as Robin (The first Robin minseries in 1990 or so). He learned not only how to fight, but how to heal, which was an interesting spin.

Right, right, I picked up #4 (of 5) of that mini in a used bookstore the other week. That's the one where he trains with Shiva and gets mightily mocked by her for choosing the staff, a defensive weapon, as his signature tool.

He also puts his detective skills to good use in that issue, which I still think are Tim's biggest strength as a Robin. He's a brain first and body second kind of guy.

I dunno, I prefer him traveling through North America rather than Europe. I'd like to see him in places like New Orleans, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and hell, El Paso would be funny if he gets to meet Blue Beetle. XD
