Jason and Tim.... a different kind of brotherly first meeting....
Jason and Tim first meet.

Not exactly brotherly love at first sight....

From Teen Titans 29, written by Geoff Johns. Posting after talking with both [info]lipsofpoison and [info]runespoor7. (Seven & a half scans I believe)

Jason's snuck into the Teen Titans tower. He doesn't want to be bothered, obviously, so has to knock out the rest of the team.
This is the first time we really hear Jason's inner voice. He knocks out Cyborg and Beast Boy, saying since he never really worked with them, he doesn't *entirely* feel bad for knocking them out the way he does.

I really like the way Johns wrote Jason's inner monologue. This conflicted sense of self and also not completely without some compassion (the way he puts Raven out)

THE YELLOW TIGHTS.... JASON WHY CAN'T YOU DRESS YOURSELF?!

Jason goes into the hall of fallen Titans and asks where his memorial statue is. "I was a Titan, too!"

And Jay leaves Tim there on the floor.

I really, really don't think Jason went there to kill Tim whatsoever. It was more of a test. Test of mettle, merit, w/e. But I guess, in Jason's off-kilter mind, Tim passed.

THIS was the Jason Todd I loved! his evolution was the best part of Countdown, until they backpedaled!

Yeah, I'd've been happy if Jay had stuck to his "capes are for suckers" philosophy for a while, got his head on straight. Maybe gone the Nightwing route and become a non-Bat hero.

Yeah, I totally loved that. Countdown was crap, but Jason was good. I really liked the way they used him. And then... well, we know what happened... Good bye, well written Jason. We'll miss you...

If you don't want to be Robin again, Jay, than how do you explain the scaly green panties?

Also, is there an explanation for where he gets all these costumes (this and the Clayface one)? Because I like to think that he makes them himself, putting all sorts of ridiculous care into every stitch because he wants to look nice and impress everyone, and that he's secretly really proud of them . . .

IIRC, he had some funding on the downlow from Talia during the Red Hood period, and didn't Red Hood pull some burglary jobs at first?

HAHAHAHA

YES. Awww. Jay. You little show-off.

I don't think there is. But his latest one with the vibrator helmet thingy is weird. (And yeah, there's no way that's not him in B&R #3 and #4. I mean c'mon.)

Because he doesn't want to have ever stopped being Robin.

Do not ever question the hotness of the scaly green panties (as worn by over-18 Robins)!

Confused - when did Jason and Raven work together? The one time I remember seeing Jay with the Titans was the Donna-led team that attacked Brother Blood (to get Dick back, I think?) and I don't recall Raven being with them.

LOL

Who knows? With the changes from Infinite Crisis and RETCON PUNCH it's possible he DID work with Raven. Or just bad writing.

Jason was part of an odd-ball team of Titans Donna put together. All I remember is that Hawk, Speedy and Aqualad were almost members of thae team. And IIRC, he and Robotman helped the Titans put away Brother Blood big time.

So his statements above are kinda odd. IIRC, when Todd was on the Titans, he did work with Gar and Cyborg. Raven was a prisoner of Brother Blood and was only freed in the last mission Jason performed with the team. Not alot of time to interact, even off-panel.

Though it might just be that she came from a background that Jason could respect and talked straight to him. So their time was briefer but more personal.

I think the difference is that this Jason is still demonstrating some measure of restraint (and common sense). He hasn't killed anyone (despite having the opportunity), he has self imposed limits he won't cross, and while he seems fairly confident that his way is the only way he also laments what could have been and acknowledges the strength and conviction of other people.

It's a bit different than the 'Rwar, I'm gonna shoot this nine year old and rant incoherently until tossing myself off a bridge' Jason. IMHO, of course. Johns' Jason lacks the humor I expect from the character, but it's still fairly close to how I'd like to see him characterized. If the Red Hood in B&R is Jason then it seems like another slightly different, but still on the right track, interpretation.

Of course maybe he'll start bathing in baby blood in the next issue, so who knows?

What the fuck is he wearing? Like a cross between original flavor Robin costume, Earth-1 Adult Robin costume, and Tim Drake's (better) Robin costume.

I wish they'd've gone for a continuity nod, like this:
jason todd robin is fabulous

Fer cryin' out loud, Jason - why can't you just pick a costume and stick with it? I mean, you've got the Red Hood outfit, that's fine... and then you've got another little mask on under that for some reason... and then you've got ANOTHER costume on under THAT... and then there's the Red Robin outfit... and the 'psycho Batman' outfit... and MAYBE the latest Red Hood outfit, although I personally think that's a bit too obvious... I mean, the guy has worn more different costumes during his relatively brief period of resurrection than most longer-lasting characters over their whole career.

Oh, Jason. Couldn't go through the front door and say "Hi, I'm Jason, wanna put on some gloves and spar?" Did that make you feel better? Well, don't try this with Steph or Cass if and when you meet, because Cass will rip you a new one.

Still think there must be two Jasons.

Who ever said Jason wasn't tough enough to be Robin??? He and Steph seem to have the same habit of "to man/woman with a hammer everything is a nail." Jason is tough, so the answer must be...be tougher!
