But most of these colours are kinda close to skin colours. If you want it to be seen, shouldn't there be lots of bright colours?

It's more like ... they want their skin to look smooth first. And then you add some color.

I guess if you want to hide some wound painting it over with extra colour might draw the attention away though. But paint can't be as good as bandages.

It must be troublesome to have hair like that. Feathers said you need to comb it so it doesn't tangle if it's long.

Yeah, my hair's usually short too. It's much easier like that.
