Mmm. She . . .

. . . she gets lost, easily. Sometimes I think, it's easier here, where everything's so quiet . . . but she loves the sky. There's a park, with swings . . . I think . . . she went there a lot, when everything was too much. It had that feeling to it.

. . . she tries. She really does, even when she doesn't know the best thing to do. Mmm . . . that's hard, sometimes. But I think, the times it's really mattered . . .

[Idly, unconsciously brushes her thumb over a faint scar on her right hand.]

Its parents were calling, but . . .

. . . she . . . probably . . . more than anything, the person I was . . . she was like that little bird. Wanting someone to help her, wanting to call out . . . but she never found her voice.

She said that, then, to the person you were. That that day . . . mmm. It was different. That, like the bird, calling out in her hand . . . she was going to voice that hope properly, the way she always should have.
