Game 129
Who: Everyone
Where: The Arena
When: Day 211, early evening
What:

[The Call to the Arena today is the simple sound of hammer on metal. Rhythmic, tireless it's almost a marching tune to those who happened to hear and follow it.

When you enter the Arena bare land quickly gives way to hot winds and an uphill slope of loose, fine sand. Your upward trudge isn't easy, with sand being the horrible, contrary thing it is when you're intent on getting ANYWHERE.

As you top the dune, you see a giant statue sitting on the thrones, leaning forward on his elbows and with a huge, jovial grin. At his feet, there is a large, spanning lake with a tropical island in the center... between you and the lake though, there are eight paths.]

HA! WARMED UP, KIDDOES?

What kind of substitute?

It's not always. Just . . . it's something we can do. And some take a long while, so even if it's just one thing, the work can last a while. And building . . . it's something important, to Foreman. Like writing is to Messenger, or reflections are to Mirror. I think . . . it always has been. Right from the start.

The burn plant. When you boil it, it creates a kind of gel that acts as a sunscreen, or in my case, hair gel. Figured it out from one of those fake memories a while ago.

Erk. I didn't mean it in a bad way. Are you saying that Foreman--or even other patrons--just felf you were kindred spirits or something?

Ah, I know where that grows! You can find more to the south, if you haven't gone yet.

I think so. At least . . . it's always seemed like that. Maybe not in that we're the same, but . . . something like that, I think it works best if you can be friends, don't you think?

. . . and our memories showed us how to look after his ants, too.

I haven't! And just when I was running low, good to know.

[sort of frowns at the question and looks at his bracelet :|a;; shinyyyy]

(Friends is one thing, but kindred spirits with Mirror? Even she would laugh at that.)

. . .if your connection runs that far back, it's definitely more than a coincidence, at least.

There's lava that way, if you go far enough. And a forge at the far east.

. . . maybe. We're not . . . really the people we were, back then, even if those memories changed us, too.

What's that?

N-not a fan of lava, but I bet Lepus would love to visit the forge. Thanks. . .

Mm, true. We aren't the people from back then period, really. But everything does, or at least should, happen for a reason. (As much as I would like to believe my past self wasn't some hick from a moonshine loving country, having memories like that must serve some purpose, damnit.)

Ah, I didn't mean you should visit the lava itself! Just . . . there's really a lot of it, so it gets warm, down where the plants are.

Badger's . . . bracelet? You keep looking at it, when you're thinking. But if it's a private thing . . . ahh, it's really okay, if you don't want to say.

Aaah, gotcha. That would make sense, it is called the burn plant, after all.

Oh! Ah, no it's fine. It's a keepsake from home but. . .[hold's it up. Shiny enough to easily see your reflection in]

Mirror's mark is on it now. I just find it strange to think that we were "meant" to be hers.

Mmm, she came to us before the move. It's not exactly something to go around announcing, but. [handwaves] It's a fact.

Badger doesn't need to make that face. Not with me.

[Slips down into the water, starting to work the slime out of her own hair.]

I'm glad she's got people to talk to again.

We were friends, before. When she was still finding herself.

Even if she's changed . . . I'd like to think we still are.

(While she was still broken. . .and less dangerous.)

Mm. She'd probably like it if you were, even if she's a bit snappy nowadays. She's not very good with feelings.

Ahh . . . I think . . . she remembers feeling too much, when we talk now. And I kind of think she's maybe been avoiding me.

Could you? I can get the bottom, but . . .

[wades on over! does not have the natural Pavoian hair-washing talent but is still decent 8|d]

Mm, sure. It has to be twice as hard to manage with that much hair.

Eeeh, she's probably just confused. Or maybe remembering herself as being 'broken' is like. . .maybe embarrassing for her? But if you called out to her through any reflection I'm sure she'd respond. . .though whether or not she'd be in a good mood is a whole different matter.

[Mmm hair washing ♥]

It's not . . . really remembering. The other side is still there . . . they just . . . don't really like each other much. And I think I make that harder.

. . . I made her a mirror, before. A real one. So we wouldn't have to talk in the reflection of her plates any more.

So it's like she has two conflicting reflections of her own. And the current Mirror is the one that likes to be in charge. (Huh. I think I know what I might use up my next question on.)

. . .do you still have it? There's no harm in it, just honestly wanting to check up someone.

Mm! Just like that. But even different . . . they're both her.

I do. Something like that . . . it has too many good memories to lose.

I'd like to know why they simply can't be one, to be honest.

Mm. Not going to lie, it's rather strange hearing someone refer to her in such a positive fashion. But it's nice to hear, too. Since it makes me feel like we're not entirely off our rockers for trusting her.

. . . because something in her is broken. Down deep. Or . . . if not broken, not complete. Even Badger's bracelet . . . don't you think it's strange?

I know. It's . . . even back when she was still new, there were people who didn't . . . really like me much, for liking her. Or saying I did. So not really wanting to talk about her being your patron . . . I understand that, too.

[brief pause in slime washing to think on that :I Also flicks any slime off his bracelet, ew]

I. . .have no idea, actually. I know something is off, but what, how, or why is lost on me.

Thanks. I'm kind of hoping people just don't notice, to be honest. Just because we're hers doesn't mean we always approve of what she does.

[Holds her hand up.]

All the others mark with symbols. Old shapes . . . this was the Builder's, once. And the marks on Delphinus, and Cepheus . . . even the marks Lepus had. But hers isn't like that at all.

. . . Foreman takes more people than any other judge. Not approving . . . I get that, too.

That's. . .that's true. And even the marks within our team are different. Stephan's wrist, Victory's nails, and the eyes for the others. . .! I never even stopped to think about it!

--Hey. We've got a lot of members with him. But he's keeping them safe, if, er, under ant-like circumstances. You've got a great Patron.

The nature's the same, isn't it? But not the form. Like it's only half done.

Mm. Even before . . . he'd always tell me how Light was doing, or Drift. And now Dandy and Eve . . . at least they're all doing okay.
