Game 129
Who: Everyone
Where: The Arena
When: Day 211, early evening
What:

[The Call to the Arena today is the simple sound of hammer on metal. Rhythmic, tireless it's almost a marching tune to those who happened to hear and follow it.

When you enter the Arena bare land quickly gives way to hot winds and an uphill slope of loose, fine sand. Your upward trudge isn't easy, with sand being the horrible, contrary thing it is when you're intent on getting ANYWHERE.

As you top the dune, you see a giant statue sitting on the thrones, leaning forward on his elbows and with a huge, jovial grin. At his feet, there is a large, spanning lake with a tropical island in the center... between you and the lake though, there are eight paths.]

HA! WARMED UP, KIDDOES?

DelPavo, from the Sunny Path
[info]roadtothesky
2011-02-06 01:06 am UTC (link)
[If Cinderella had met her fairy godmother in a cabbage patch by a pool, rather than in a pumpkin patch filled with mice, what arrived at the Prince's ball might have been something like the creation Delphinus and Pavo bring to the lake.

A team of four pure white swans draw it down to the water, their harnesses formed of woven and knotted vines. A singular (incredibly luscious) cabbage hangs just out of reach of their questing bills, directing them this way and that, their powerful wings and webbed feet more than powerful enough to lead it over land or water.

The cabbage . . . er, the carriage itself is formed of countless overlapping cabbage leaves, creating a kind of mega cabbage. There's room inside to very comfortably seat four, with a driver's bench outside for at least two more. The wheels at the four corners are of green and red cabbage leaves overlapped in a pattern almost reminiscent of giant flowers, a design that's replicated in miniature around the body of the carriage itself. Once in the water, the 'wheels' keep it steady and buoyed, with only the bottom third of the cabbage sitting below the water's glassy surface, and the rest floating comfortably above.

The driver's platform is guarded on both sides with plastic garden birds that someone has taken the liberty of dying a cheerful Pavo purple, and the bench itself is of cut plywood, itself painted a light Delphinus blue. A mat has been placed over the centre of the bench, making for a comfortable seat, and the hoe keeping the carrot in front of the donkeys cabbage in front of the swans is fastened here as well, with extras secured along the bottom just in case more fuel (or rewards) are needed.

Inside, two benches face each other, their cushions made of soft loam sealed in cabbage covers. The interior is painted in more of the same cheerful blue and purple, and four windows (well above the water line) offer views of the journey. The remaining water balloons are stored here as well, along with a most curious contraption — a plank of plywood smoothed with cabbage, with both ends of a particularly elastic vine secured to one end. Pulled back, it stretches just enough to hold a water balloon long enough to take aim before the makeshift slingshot sends it flying.

After all, even on magical journeys, it never hurts to be prepared for what evil stepmothers one might possibly face.]

Bunnycorn Crabboat

[Basically, it's a typical fishing boat design. The hull is made out of crab shells held together by gummies and utilizing bamboo as a rough frame work. There's also a "deck" area with the thatch hut on top. about 5 or 6 crabs have been harnessed to the prow of the ship to pull it in the water with Lulu and Victory as their machete-wielding slave drivers. The shells of the hull have been drawn on with coal from the bonfire -- as have the faces of the Monoceros and Lepus crew members. Lepus looks fierce under their black tribal style markings. Monoceros much less so with hearts, rainbows, and bunnies drawn on them. (It's the thought that counts.) Each member of the crew stands ready on deck with crab-claw tipped bamboo spears... except for Badger who's roasting crabmeat for people.]

[Pygnus has created a BOAT OF DESTINY!]

[Hopefully it will float and not sink! Knives were used to cut the 'grass' off the astroturf; hacksaw was used to cut up the shopping cart to make wires; water balloons for the floral patterns; gnome for the figurehead; hockey stick for an oar; sticky blocks for general shaping and holding together of materials]

[Hydracula is living in a yellow submarine~~

The main body of the creation is made of yellow brick road gummis while the hatches and a periscope (made with the help of some polished tin :'D) are made from emerald green gummi blocks. There's a rudder made from a dismantled emerald table and a paddle wheel powered by a man digimon-powered hamster wheel that's contained inside, both made from gummi fence boards and charred broomsticks. There also . . . appear to be torpedo tubes on the sides of the submarine . . . Is that blond hair you see in one of them?

Well. It is Hydracula.]

~Monsterhunter's Ship of Dreams and Moonbeams~
[info]byallmeans
2011-02-06 01:48 am UTC (link)
[Monsterhunter offers up a Lisa Frank-esque vessel with an ovular base that has been carefully constructed of cloud, the gaps between the 'blocks' filled with more cloud bits so that no water can seep in. On the floor, a mat that has been trimmed to an oval lies; its decorations have been cannibalized for other parts of the ship, but the words ALL ABOARD THE CARE BOAT are still present. DEADLY CLOUD SPIKES have been added to the sides of the base- two each to the front, side, and back, presumably to keep enemy ships from getting near.

The sides rise up at right angles, making it more like a raft with railings than a proper hull; this, too, has been patched with cloud bits. Space in the railing has been left at the rear of the raft, where a rainbow slide has been hauled onboard with no alterations. It hangs slightly over the water, so that one can slide off into the lake, and has been secured in place with more blocks of cloud. At the sides of the raft, small holes have been left in the railing just below knee height, through which sparkling poles adorned with moon-shaped oars protrude. Heart stepping stones have been embedded into the rails, and beneath that, the jutting cloud spikes have also been decorated with little stars.

In the center, a candycane mast holds aloft a sail proudly bearing a heart, small pieces of cloud leading up the side like a makeshift ladder and cloud ribbons streaming downward from it. The remaining swing and swing set materials have been set up next to the mast in the center, facing the sides of the boat for waterballoon slingshot action!! A small waterballoon compartment has been made of cloud to house and protect the tub of waterballoons.]

Lyvus, from the Bent Path
[info]curebyfire
2011-02-06 01:52 am UTC (link)
Lyvus’ boat is clearly rigged for war. An upside-down table makes up its bottom, with gummi bricks used to create the walls of the boat. The outer walls bristle with knives and have been painted maroon and gray in the colors of Lynx and Corvus, by painting it with some of the water balloons. The name has been scrawled in paint on the side: you behold the mighty Boat.

Portions of a giant straw, with ends sealed shut with some more gummi serve as pontoons beneath this war raft, and a ladder has been broken in two and fashioned with matts into crude oars, protruding through small gaps in the boat walls. Another portion of giant straw is set up as a catapult for launching balloons.

The tub of water balloons has been placed in the middle of the boat, with a spray bottle tucked inside the tub. A pair of water buckets are placed on either side of the raft.

A final piece of giant straw appears to be rigged--again, catapult-style, this time on the boat's rear exterior--to give the War Raft’s initial launch an extra boost.

[Keep in mind there are all kinds of things that are still missing from the picture, as much of it would obscure what was drawn.

IN ANYCASE. The deck of this great vessel is made of a Ferris wheel that has been dismantled from the operation motor and rigging and turned sideways. Signs, boards from the sides of stands, and walls of the funhouse make up the floor of the deck.

All around the boat are tied various colorful gummi balloons, and below the floor of the boat are stored many many colorful balls from the ballpit, kept tied to the boat with a tent-tarp. All of this is for buoyancy. Also around the boat, below the water, are tied black gummi-dumbells to keep the ship weighted.]

[SEE AIRSAILS ABOVE.

While usable in the water, it is when the dumbells are cut and the boat takes to the sky that it's maneuverability is really demonstrated. There are also (not pictured) several shields rigged around the boat, obviously designed for deflecting water-balloons, as they are tarps stretched across tent-pole frames, much like the "wings".

The front of the ship is made up of a lot of gummi balloons, five seats from the Ferris wheel, and the spinning tunnel entrance to the funhouse seated on them. It provides more solid cover and a place to throw waterballoons from.

LASTLY, we have a hotdog stand.]
