The Beginning ...

Not so very long ago, the Powers that Be decided it was time to decide which force should be ruling the Multiverse: the force of Order and light, or the force of Chaos and darkness. So the Powers set up two worlds inside of two bubbles, and picked their chosen representatives from various realities and points in time. Time rolled on, but after only three and a half weeks, they decided the forces were not balanced. That the pawns, the players in their cosmic war, were not equally matched.

So they re-evaluated the people they'd chosen, shuffling some into the other bubble. They realized too late that some people had formed bonds in the short time they'd been in these worlds between worlds, nearly unbreakable bonds, and they would not be swayed so easy to their newly chosen side.

And so, on midnight of the twenty-fourth day of the war, the Powers that Be sent most of their chosen warriors and catalysts to a new reality, merging the two existing bubbles. They have decided to start drawing in more people, letting bonds form with no barriers between the sides. Chaos' warriors are mingling with Order's chosen, and new people are being brought in on the whims of the Powers.

Some will be warriors, fighters, the powerhouses to drive the war. Some will be support, cool logic in the face of insanity. And some will be catalysts, people with no obvious talents, but the chemistry and charm to corral reluctant parties into fighting a war they never signed up for, in a world they aren't familiar with, parted from friends they still wish they had.

Dar Oma is the gathering point for the Powers' new pawns. Escape Mechanism is based mostly on character interactions and development, though there will be occasional plots as the Powers decide to run their new playtoys through various tasks.

THE PREMISE
Have you ever dreamed you were someone else and it was so vivid that, for a moment, you were convinced you were that person. It couldn't be, of course. That person isn't even real and dreams are just dreams, right?

Or, maybe not.

A series of people, all around the world, are experiencing that very thing and, as it turns out, there's much more to it than it being just a dream. Those people are all reincarnations of fictional characters - imaginary people from literature, mythology, nursery rhymes, fairy tales, etc. They don't have conscious memories of their past lives, but, boy, do they dream about them. Some of them even have special abilities related to their former selves.

The dreams can be good or bad, but the one thing they all are is vivid. Those affected might feel like they're going crazy at first, at least until they begin to discover that there are more people like them, that these aren't just random, recurring dreams.

O T H E R S . They walk among us, OBSERVING.
In the beginning, there were only the humans, and, amongst them, a cursed woman. She was a good woman, pure and kind, but wherever she went, misfortune followed her. Whenever she lit a candle, it went out. If she petted a puppy, it died. If she fed a bird from her hand, the bird would fall from it, dead. Children died in the houses she visited, and the power of her curse opened a Vortex of Damnation around her. With it came the first forces of Darkness. Warriors of the Light rose up to fight the darkness, and thus began the battle between the Light and the Dark.
All because one human cursed another.
The battle raged on for centuries, neither side every truly winning. The two sides came to a standstill, and ended up forging a truce. Thus was the Great Treaty formed, and the Inquisition to uphold it. The Light formed the Night Watch to watch over the Dark, and the Dark formed the Day Watch to watch over the Light.
Thus has it been, and thus shall it always be.

After World War II, the world was looking for a place to recover. Al Capone saw this retreat in a desert in the mid-30’s. Yes, Las Vegas was built on the Mafia’s dime. But a dime isn’t worth much these days.

The Russian Mafya wanted a slice of the pie. After a long, bloody war, a truce was reached, they accepted their uneasy peace for years. Then the Triad moved into town. The Cosa Nostra would have nothing to do with them. The Mafya was not so selective and looked to the future, making a business deal with these new partners.

It’s now 2009. A new brotherhood has set foot onto the desert. Their name are Yakuza. They are not willing to compromise or make deals, they’re playing for keeps. The thread that the tenuous piece has been kept by has frayed and no one will know what hit ‘em when it falls. Guess what, Vegas? It just snapped.

CROSS ACADEMY
Cross Academy, a distinguished boarding school, is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. The Night Class is an elite group of noble students. But the Day Class does not know the Night Class' dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires and it is up to the Disciplinary Committee to make sure that the Day Class is protected from this secret.

Cross Academy was created as part of a experiment to see if vampires could bear living with the humans they lived to hunt. The expansive campus accommodates high school and college students alike with two main buildings for classes, four dormitories, and a library on the far end of the campus.

By secret order of the crown, 1891 sees the activation of a covert organisation accountable only to the monarch. Formed in response to occult aspects of the Whitechapel murders, these 'Royal Inquisitors' are tasked with the containment or elimination of supernatural threats to the interests of the British Empire. These crusading guardians are invested with the authority to root out occult elements that could corrupt society. Regarded with respect and fear by the few who know of them, the Royal Inquisition is a highly secretive order, dedicated to upholding civilisation against dark, primordial forces, by any means necessary. Unlike knights of old, they have access to the most radical technological advances of the era: In an age of exploring the unknown, with revolutionary science clashing against religion, Royal Inquisitors not only hold the front line against supernatural dangers, but see themselves as agents of purification, bringing light to shadow and eliminating the preternatural.

In this quest, concessions must be made. The Royal Inquisitors make deals with those touched by the otherworldly... People with such abilities as speaking with the dead. The Spiritualist movement is taking hold in society and, to the Royal Inquisitors, these men and women are useful tools in their battle against the darkness and are paid for their advising services. One must have bloodhounds when on a hunt.

Down the centuries, champions of light and dark have always waged war. These diverse groups might find themselves working together to avoid the Royal Inquisition's wrath. Dhampirs, demons, vampires, black witches and white, lycanthropes, practitioners of infernal magic, ghosts of the damned and far more... All might find themselves on the same side before long, drawn together against an enemy using steam, iron and electricity.

Background
In the ancient days, the gods relied on Seers to prophesize their next move, and foresee any dangers that faced the supernatural deities. These Seers would band together and hold rituals to See what lay ahead for all beings; man, god, and other alike. Nearly 12,000 years ago, the Seers saw something that frightened the gods so much that they took drastic measure. They held a counsel and decided that, to save themselves, they would do the unthinkable. Combining their powers, the sent all supernatural beings to the continent of Atlantis. To keep balance in the world, the gods did not destroy the island. Instead, they sent it to another realm, where they would be safe from what the Seers had predicted - the downfall of the gods by the extraordinary... by the supernatural.

Premise
For thousands and thousands of years, the supernatural (as well as the unfortunate humans) have lived on the continent and have reached a point of peace and prosperity. The Seers, however, who were banished with the beings (out of fear, naturally) have been seeing things which could change the shape of their world forever. Darkness is coming... who will stand and fight?

[info]providence_rpg is a game that was around before, but it kind of faded away. I'm looking to bring it back, and so we're starting all over again. It's a basic town-based rpg, where you're free to bring in your own original characters.

One of the first cities to be established in the United States, PROVIDENCE is the capital of, and most populous city in, RHODE ISLAND. The city, located at the mouth of the Providence River on the Narragansett Bay, is a typical town that's had its ups and downs in the past.

So what sets Providence apart from other cities?

A home in Providence does not demand difficult trade offs between lifestyles and environments. Living in Providence can include expansive lawns, swimming pools, white picket fences, and a newly built home. Providence can also provide the shops, activity, community spirit, and cultural richness of down city living. What sets Providence apart from the suburbs and other cities is the variety of choice within its wide housing spectrum.
