Humanity witnessed the pinnacle of its evolution. For a short span of time, Earth was a veritable paradise and the genius of man seemed untouchable. They say that history wields the greatest lessons of all; a saying that has always been proven true. As technologically brilliant as we had become, we did not learn from our mistakes. We did not learn to overcome our own hubris. Each country became lofty of its achievements, while simultaneously becoming greedy for the achievements of others. Those caught in the middle were forced to chose sides. So began a war unlike any other and, when it all ended, the paradisiacal version of Earth was lost.
It has been thirty years since and the world has yet to recover. It lies mostly barren and uninhabitable, save for a few bleak cities scattered over the northern hemisphere. Human society has attempted to pick up the pieces but struggle to remain hopeful in the face of a despotic government that monitors and regulates their every move. Some flee the dictatorship to live on the outskirts, or even in the deserts – only to cope with the perpetual sand storms, lack of resources, and those mutated by the nuclear holocaust we unleashed to end the war.
______
Welcome to Bitter Season and all it encompasses, a world attempting to survive after a disastrous nuclear war but thirty years prior. We are a community for serious writers, those who wish to create unique and original characters to maneuver around a versatile but dark world. We allow in those characters who truly fit the game and those players mature enough to properly appreciate the themes. We may utilize the Wikipedia format for our informational pages, but gameplay is strictly performed on Insanejournal. See the links below for further information.

Progeny | // The Rules // The Cast // The Taken-Held Characters // The Wanted NPCs // The Application //
Life is peaceful for the Halliwells and their families. Piper, Phoebe, Paige, and Leo have settled down with their lives. No more demon hunting, no more crazy backfired spells, no more death and destruction. Their children are growing up in a world with little conflict, occasionally kicking a bit of demon ass when nessecary. Wyatt and Chris have grown into law abiding citizens. Paige and Phoebe's children are all growing up, attending Magic School. Leo is teaching there, watching over the education of the students. Piper has finally opened the restaurant she's always wanted. Wyatt has taken over P3. Paige is a full whitelighter. Phoebe is a prize winning column writer for The Bay Mirror, and has penned several best selling novels on love.
Trouble begins brewing right under their noses, unbeknownst to the Halliwell family. A new Source of Evil is rising to power, organizing the once chaotic underworld. This new Source is planning on taking out the Halliwell line to clear the path for a worldly destruction and a takeover of evil. Betrayal is lurking in their midst, and together, this new generation will battle the inner threat and the Source along with the help of new allies.
In a time of danger, the sisters decide it's time to pass on their Charmed heritage so three new witches in their family are chosen. Though the power of three rests on simply three, the whole of the new generation must band together and work as a team. It’s up to the Halliwell offspring to save the day and take on their parents charge of the Charmed destiny.
We're in the midst of heavy plot at the moment, so this is a great time to introduce new characters!
We still need Paige's son, Henry Jr. Ariel Mitchell (One of Paige's twins and part of the new Power of Three) is adoptable, as is Wyatt. Check out the Wanted NPCs to see more. Original characters are always welcome!

The gods have not faded away, or been reborn. They are not in high school. They have not forgotten who they were. They remember, because they still exist.
Though their followers are fewer and less vocal, once a god, always a god. The important things have not changed with the passage of time, though with the advance of the mortal world, gods have discovered the joys of modernization. Because even a Muse can appreciate an iPod.
Of course the Sumerians are still insular (and a tad stuck up), the Greeks still squabble amongst themselves more than they do with the other pantheons, and the Norse… well, with Loki on the loose and Ragnarok threatened, they do have their hands full.
In every pantheon, just as in any group of individuals, you have those that are warm, friendly and open. And those that never learned to work and play well with others. How will they manage to coexist? How have they done so thus far? What happens when Anubis meets Hades? Or Thor challenges Nergal?
Come help us answer those questions and tell those stories.

This whole mess began when some practicing Witches, in their ultimate wisdom, decided to try a rising spell. Now, a rising spell is supposed to summon the gods to transform those who cast it to the next level, igniting the powers within them... only the spell THOSE stupid fuckers cast didn't quite go that way. Whether it was a mistranslation, a wrong turn of phrase, a missed or added ingredient... it doesn't matter, as the next morning thousands upon thousands of humans had been changed. The catch? They didn't know! The spell had ignited some kind of special gene which only resided in those humans so now they could play mind tricks, have whack agility, breathe fire, shit like that which made us Vamps sit up and take notice.
Our food was suddenly able to fight back and sometimes it was beyond our capabilities to stop them. There were some Vamps who wanted to reach out to them, to guide them and get them on our side, whereas the rest of us - the ones with their brains intact - realised the real problem.
If a Mutaint (like mutants in comics, 'cept they aint) was to be turned into a Vamp, or practice Witchcraft, without knowing of their own power they would be stronger than ten Vampires put together. That gene is like a trigger - once turned it would release a whoole motherfucking mixture of jazz into their veins. We couldn't have that. No fucking way.
We still can't. So what we gotta do is find the 'Taints, and make sure that every single last motherfucking one of them is put down. Our survival depends on it. Witches' survival depends on it. Because if a Taint gets Turned... all Hell will break loose.

The story of how the UK was taken over is one passed down from person to person in the shadows, carried by a whisper and a hollow gasp. No one can understand how finally, the noble Harry Potter could have won, and then lost so quickly. A room full of people got to see the last of Voldemort, and no longer are scared to utter his name, even if most do so quietly. Now theirs is a word much more horrifying.
The Mortvi are a ruthless lot, Death Eaters renaming themselves after the fall of Voldemort. They used to be his closest of slaves, rather then minions. Many scorned and angry they disappeared into the darkness after their master's fall. Nobody knows how they could return and sweep the ministry building in one night, and foil the Order in another. Not even the Order can figure out how it happened. There is no Prophecy to hold them back, and only a new world order of terror to set them forward. Who's going to stop them?
The United Kingdom is in peril. Lawbreakers go unpunished, Aurors and defense go without deploy as they are sent to other places during times the government itself is breaking laws. The Queen herself, as an unseeing Muggle is second to the rulers of the new Wizarding World. They blind the fools who chooose to believe with the thin sheet that they make the UK a better place. The Lestranges are the Ministers for Magic, each of them, without The Dark Lord to hold them back on their escapades, the British island and it's people are pawns to their tests of society. It is almost as if they're free to kill and terrorize at their own will, being so bold as to not hide their own crimes. They have even fooled the new generation of wizards into doing their bidding as they once did the bidding of the Dark Lord. Umbra Populus, the young brigade to the Mortvi. They stroll about free as birds even though they are captors like everyone else. But soon even they won't be so...'free.'
