Before he could reach his wand, the werewolf flung him against a tree, and leapt, pinning his arms.  Trying to ignore the hot breath panting in his face, the weight pressing against him, Severus focused his thoughts.  There, the werewolf was flung off him.  The watching werewolves stilled, predatorily attentive.

Twisting mid-air and landing lightly, Lupin flew back at Severus, his golden eyes gleaming.  The werewolf landed on top of him, and set his teeth on his throat, growling softly.  Severus immediately stilled, frozen into submission.   There, that ought to convince all watchers of their enmity.

“Some courtship you’ve got going there, Remus,” the old grizzled werewolf called out.

There are words within his silences. Even if he cannot actually tell me he loves me – even if his tongue cannot shape the sounds; his mouth cannot release the words – there are words within his silences, sentences without sound, and communication with every touch and look.

“One day,” he tells me, “I might be able to tell you…”

 “There is no need for to say anything,” I reply.  “I know, without you saying a word.”

“But in time, I hope…” he says, hesitantly, uncharacteristic uncertainty clouding his fierce, beautiful, austere features.

A Taste of Melancholy

“I like these cold, gray winter days.  Days like these let you savor a bad mood.”

Order business sent me to the tropics for months.  Without you.

Summer was the time of rains; torrential downpours daily, falling in heavy sheets, not drops. 

They called winter the “dry season”; each day was exactly like the next, bright blue cloudless sky, warm without being hot.  Bliss at first, then I grew to loathe it. 

I longed for grey winter days, cold searing through flesh, as harsh as your anger, as potent as your lust. I longed for pearly grey skies, luminescent, pellucid, purity in the fading light; a melancholic taste in the air. I longed for you, Severus.
