Recipe: The Perfect Cup of Tea

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Title: In the Night Kitchen

Artist: Karasu Hime

Excerpt: Um, I have no idea how to do a thumbnail, so here's the link = http://www.ssf-moonshadow.com/art/archives/InterludeinKitchen.jpg

Commentary: I always pictured this as an exhausted Severus avoiding Hogwarts and sneaking into Grimmauld Place instead. He goes to the kitchen to relax in the quiet, gather his thoughts while nursing a strong cup of black tea. Now tea isn't just throwing the bag in hot water straight out of the microwave. To really enjoy tea, you have to do it right and have the right tea! For this, I imagine Severus going for a black tea, slightly biting to wake his senses up and loaded with caffeine to keep him going just a little bit longer.

Source: Alton Brown's Perfect Cup of Tea Recipe @ http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/perfect-cup-of-tea-recipe/index.html

Ingredients:
4 heaping teaspoons loose tea
4 cups water

Instructions:
Place loose tea leaves into a warmed tea kettle. Pour heated water over loose tea leaves. Let steep. Strain tea and serve.
*Note: For Oolong and Green tea, water should simmer at 200 degrees F. and 180 degrees F.
*For Irish and English tea bring water to a full boil.
*Black tea should soak for 3 to 5 minutes. Oolong tea should soak for 4 to 7 minutes. Green Tea should soak for 2 to 3 minutes.

In desperate need...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
My Co-Ed Naked FanFiccing Slytherin stainless steel travel mug from Fiction Alley aeons ago broke last week. It wobbles. I need a new mug, preferably something Harry Potter. It has to have a lid too, per work's requirements on liquids in the office. I would like my fellow Snupiners to let me know if there are any Snupin, Snape or Lupin travel mugs somewhere that I can snag up for my morning tea drinking enjoyment. I am most desolate and hate my boring, unadorned cheapo from KMart. The nasty thing. It has no niftyness, durn it!

Mayhap we should do one for the group? Some nifty Snupiny setup? It must be work safe, of course...

Thoughts? Advice? Help for the pitiful?

Title: Motherless Child

Author/Artist: [info]ellid

Excerpt: "Yes." Severus carefully lifted Remus's chin and turned his face so that their eyes met. "My petition was granted contingent on my statement that I planned to marry in the near future - it's a sub-clause in the 1917 statute giving precedence to married or engaged couples, to ensure that the child grows up in a stable home. And since I'm not as yet married - "

The joy at having Johnny home vanished. Severus had no use for women in any physical sense. What was going on?

"Married? Severus? I don't understand - "

"It's not what you think." Severus, suddenly flushed, conjured a crumpled newspaper and hastily unfolded it. "Here. From the local paper in Salem. I didn't tell you because there were legal challenges until the last minute, but - "

The headline was at least an inch high, big enough that Remus could read it without his half-glasses:

GAY MARRIAGE SURVIVES COURT ATTEMPT; FIRST COUPLES TAKE OUT LICENSES

BOSTON: AP - Opponents of gay marriage saw their last-minute brief dismissed by the Supreme Judicial Court today, opening the way for thousands of same-sex couples to wed…

The words blurred so badly Remus gave up after the first line or two. It was almost too good to be true.

Gay marriage. Legal. In Massachusetts.

In Salem.

"Severus?" His voice caught. "Does this mean what I think it does?"

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Title: Hang 'em High

Author: Rosy (Me!)

Excerpt: Belladonna Creek was a tiny, two-horse town that only existed because of a lazy tributary curling off the Colorado River in Arizona. The watershed flooded part of the valley it rested in, leaving behind scrub and grassland which was perfect for grazing herds of cattle and sheep. The main town had only one street, lined by a grand total of eight buildings, two of which were dedicated to horses. The outlying lands belonged to ranchers and farmers, the biggest of which belonging to the Potters and the Malfoys. The town was a stop on a stage coach route running towards Phoenix, it had its own bank and post office, and it had one of the best Back East educated doctors for twenty miles.

Which the whole town was grateful for, Dominic Prince thought dryly. Especially when its fool Marshal got himself shot. Again.

Commentary: This story was all Diz's fault. :D She prompted me with Snupin Cowboys, and this is what came of it. These two recipes are down home, simple country recipes that cowboys would love.

Story: "Spooky Little Girl Like You"

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Arionrhod and I have been kicking around the idea of writing a story set in the future of the RPG Remus and Severus we've been playing together since 2004, focusing on the next generation of Snape kids, and finally, we did it! This story focuses mostly on Cymbeline Lupin-Snape, but Remus and Severus have a significant part in the second half of the story.

If you're interested in reading it, but you've never read the Snark and Bark RPG, the story stands alone well enough that you won't miss much. All you really need to know is that the game began before books 6 and 7, and Severus and Remus have an extended family.

Spooky Little Girl Like You, by Arionrhod and McKay
Rated: PG
Summary: Cymbeline Lupin-Snape is happy with her life just the way it is, but when her brother introduces her to one of his friends, she finds her comfortable life being turned upside-down.
Content: Alternate reality, het
Word count: ~52,000

Recipe: Chocolate Chai Mini-Loaves

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Title: Chocolat

Author: McKay

Excerpt: [Severus] didn't make or sell any kind of sweet but chocolate - but oh, what chocolate! There were moist chocolate cakes slathered in fruit. There were chocolates - dark, milk, and white - filled with creams of all different flavors from strawberry to vanilla to lemon and molded into various shapes, such as shells, flowers, or coins. There were slabs of chocolate mixed with crystallized ginger, lemon, orange, nuts, cinnamon, mint. The list of variations seemed endless. There was hot chocolate made with rich spices, even chile pepper. There were chocolate bars wrapped in gold paper. There were chocolate covered cherries and wedges of lemon and orange. And once a month, Severus made loaves of rich chocolate bread. He sold out of the loaves quickly, but he always set one aside to sell by the slice, and children came in with high hopes of being lucky enough to get one of those coveted slices, especially if their parents hadn't secured an entire loaf.

Commentary: This isn't the only recipe I have for chocolate bread, but it's by far the best. These little loaves are delicious and make excellent gifts - if you can refrain from eating the whole batch yourself.

Title: The Way of the World

Author: McKay

Excerpt: "It's rather like a cauldron, actually, which is why I think you'll like it," Remus said as he removed the glass lid. "You put things in, and the slow cooker cooks them. You can set it to low or high heat, depending on how quickly you want it to cook. It's very good for making soups and stews, but you can make other things, too. I cooked a small chicken in it once, and it turned out rather well."

"Are we going to brew something now?" Although his expression didn't reveal anything, there was an anticipatory note in Severus' voice, and Remus grinned, not at all surprised that Severus' interest had been piqued by this particular appliance.

"I thought we might put some vegetable soup together. We can let it cook overnight and have it tomorrow. Tonight, I thought we might go to the pub for dinner." He leaned on his hip against the counter, looking Severus over for signs of fatigue. "I don't want to wear you out on your first day, and they have very good fish and chips. The shepherd's pie is excellent as well. Oh, and we must go on a day when Deirdre has made rabbit stew -- it's heavenly. The hard-hearted wench won't tell me her secret, though, and I can't quite get the seasoning right, no matter what I try."

Severus folded his arms and regarded Remus with what almost seemed like a hint of amusement. "Do you always get this excited about food?"

Commentary: Preparing the ingredients for the slow cooker soup is the first moment of cooperation between Remus and Severus in the story, and this scene is one of the first things I thought of when lore mentioned the idea of a Snupin cookbook.
