The Lupin/Snape Lurve Community

It's always wonderful to trip over a journal filled with good, well-thought-out fics. Such a one is that of Margot (midnight_birth at LJ). Her work, The Firsts, is thoughtful, slow and steady, and filled with angsty romance between two strong men, Apr. 10th, 2009.

Why I recommend it: Romance sneaks up stealthily in this fic. Circumstances and situations leave Severus and Remus in closer and closer contact until they fall into each others' arms, yet...they don't have a smooth path. It's the journey, told in vignettes from Severus' point-of-view, that are so in-character and convincing.

My summary: Firsts...they come when they will, how they will, and damned be the man who attempts to resist them. Tho', in Severus Snape's case, blessed be!

Why I recommend it: As someone with a tattoo, I know how much power it has in my life, and how it shapes perceptions of me for others. While I don't see myself removing or covering my tattoo, I know how right the decision has to be, how it has to fit with your own self truth.

My summary: Wanting something to cover the symbol of his servitude, Severus asks for help. When he comes to Remus, he finally finds the words he'd been searching for.

This challenge can be used for Valentine's day or Remus' birthday, or for any shades in-between. I am hoping you will all think outside the box about this one, especially artists.

Drabbles (a single letter?), ficlets, art, stories, photomanips, icons, thematic lists, recs, and any other offerings you can relate to the challenge are welcome. If you need ideas or would like a writing partner for a letters exchange, feel free to ask here or later on the community. Also, for the duration of this challenge, if you would like have another character "write" to Remus in some way, it will be accepted, as long as the "letter" involves Remus and no mentions of other romantic partners are made -- in other words, Remus gen only, please, if you involve another character alone. Other characters addressing a Remus/Severus relationship in some way is welcome, of course!

Specific tags for this challenge will be "prompt: letters to lupin" and possibly "holidays: lupin's birthday" as well as other fic and art tags as they apply. Remember there are feeds from IJ to LJ and LJ to IJ if you don't have journals in both places.

You may post your offering at any time, and this challenge runs through March 10. I hope many of you will come out to celebrate Remus' golden birthday, including viewers who are willing to encourage with their comments!

We have so many talented writers of Remus and Severus that it can be difficult to read all the works that come out. Here is a Merry Smutmas 2007 (2008-01-05 posted at the author's IJ) gift written by the talented iamisaac entitled The Bonding. Please show the love to this wonderful author!

Why I recommend it: We cannot choose whom we love easily or how that love will manifest during a war. This piece takes the idea of bonding and makes it work with steady pacing and attention to detail. I felt the conflict of emotions and necessity in Remus. I hurt for Severus' vulnerability.

My summary: To save their lives, the spies needed to bond, wholly. Actions will have consequences and those consequences may be the greater gift.

Title: Flesh and Bones, by Arionrhod and McKay

Rated: PG13

Summary: Non-magical AU. FBI agent Remus Lupin had no idea what he was getting into when he consulted with expert forensic anthropologist, Severus Snape, to help solve a murder. Snape is invaluable in helping with the case, but Lupin wants to give him a few clues about love as well.

Content: violence and gore in the form of descriptions of dead bodies. Nothing worse than you'd see in any police procedural or medical drama.

Why I recommend it: The lines of their bodies are fluid, flowing over and under each other with grace. This is what I privately call "a stolen moment" piece--the two lovers at ease in their own world. The musculature is only hinted at with the soft chalk, but I feel as if waiting a moment will earn me a glimpse of movement.

What I saw: At ease with each other and their bodies, Remus and Severus are caught in a languid moment, such as true lovers share.

musigneus wrote a wonderful story driven by Sirius, after his death, for michaelchance and posted it at The Archive at the End of the Universe, 06/08/2007.

Why I recommend it: Giving love a helping hand, even if it's inadvertent, can be a redeeming grace. Here, Sirius--who gets so much ire--gets a lesson in interference and completion. The pace of growing emotions is like the mixing of ingredients within a stew: a dash of salt, a pinch of pepper, a smidgen of paprika, time, and stirring, all done well and with attention to details that are necessary.

My summary: Drawn back to the land of the living, Sirius Black finds out his youthful follies are still playing out. It's up to him to lay them to rest, and help Remus...and Snape.

xochiquetzl wrote this simple piece and posted it over at The Archive at the End of the Universe, 28/01/2006.

Why I recommend it: It's been a long time, speaking for myself, that I've read xochiquetzl's stories. This is one of the author's lighter pieces, showing without saying Severus' feelings toward Remus. A sweet example of showing the love!

My Summary: Working together one night on a potion, we see what Severus will do for the man he loves.

I wrote this fic and posted it before, can't remember where. It needed some work(a lot),I rewrote it and found a wonderful beta Book7BrokeMyBrain. Without whom I could never have been able to rewrite and post this story. Anyway enough of my rambling. I hope my formatting is correct, it's been about 2 years since I posted anything with a cut link.

Why I recommend it: Severus Snape's body language is so stiff at the beginning, so in-character, while Remus' is open and inviting. The shift from standoffishness to acceptance takes several panels, a slow, steady reveal of emotions and bodies.

What I saw: Muted hues felt as if they were images in the clouds. The body language was fluid and open, a lover's invitation to touch and explore. All without words.

Why I recommend it: We all know of longer pieces, but I can see the man Remus describes so vividly, so vibrantly. The spartan wording and the almost staccato formatting bring Severus to glorious life in word art. I'm so very glad I delved into the LJ archives and found this gem. A second day of spreading the love!

Why I recommend it: I've been a fan of karasu_hime's art for several years--the colors, the style, the subjects--and to find this piece while looking through the archives was wonderful. I thought it was a shame that so few of us have seen this early example, so I recommend that all my fellow Snupin-shippers stop by and leave a lovely comment, sharing some of the the love this month is so famous for!



What I saw: Away from everyone, Remus and Severus are like all young lovers, especially on a picnic date.
