TIME UPDATE

DAY 4
January 4, 2013.

WEATHER REPORT: It's snowing harder, and temperatures have dropped by six degrees.

EVENTS: Once again, our Experiment A participants will find their computers blinking, signalling a message from the scientists. Luckily, this message has no effect on their doors. People are still free to come and go.

"Greetings.

We regret to inform you that several participants - Georgie, Harley, and Jai - have quit the experiment. One of these removals was due to medical reasons. We will be bringing in replacements for all three - one of which has already been brought into the house. Milo now occupies Jai's old room on the second floor.

We apologize for the disruption, and hope you enjoy your time with us. Thank you."

This may come as something as a surprise, as it's entirely likely that participants were not aware that they had the option of quitting. At least it should come as a comfort that the scientists are looking out for everyone's well-being. If they took someone out for their health, that's a good sign, right?

Yes, indeed - sometime in the night, Milo was brought into the house in the same fashion as everyone else on Day 1. However, it's important to stress that there were no witnesses. Not even Experiment B saw Jai being removed, and Milo being brought in. The more remarkable detail is that at some point in the last twenty-four hours, the bedroom Milo now occupies was completely remodeled. Of course, as no one but Jai (and Experiment B) were able to see Jai's bedroom, no one in Experiment A has no way of knowing this treatment was... pretty remarkable. But, probably a fluke, right? Odds are good they were working on Jai's room all day yesterday and no one in Experiment B noticed. Yeah, that's probably the case.

Where: Kitchen

Four days in, and Lina’s routine was solid. Up at five, she’d immediately head outside for a run. The forests surrounding the house were full of trails, and she’d tried a different one each day. She was actually enjoying it, too. It was freezing out there, but at least here she was without the risk of being mugged. Significantly reduced chance of it, anyway. She’d been living in the city for so many years that she’d almost forgotten how much she actually liked this nature shit. The year would go by a lot easier if she could just spend most of her time outside.

Lina headed inside about an hour later, and decided to have breakfast before her shower. She liked the fact that she seemed to be the earliest riser in the house. She didn’t know for certain that she was, but it was nice to know that she could eat without being disturbed. She let the back door fall closed behind her as she stepped out of her wet shoes, and once she spotted the empty kitchen, headed on in. She fired up one of the burners and tossed her bomber jacket in the general direction of the table while she waited for the pan to heat up. She had put the coffee on before going for her run, and was relieved to see it was still untouched. She helped herself to a cup, and went about making a Greek omelet. Lina was almost, almost in a good mood. What a novel fucking concept. She smirked faintly at the idea as she unzipped her vest. Wait. Did she just hear footsteps?

Don’t come in here, she thought. Don’t be footsteps. But if it is, don’t come in here. Don’t make me be social this early in the morning. Somehow, she got the feeling her luck was about to run out.
