'Surprise' had probably been the wrong word to describe what Tonks had to show her newly arrived husband. It had just been the only thing she could think of at the time. Of course she could have told him about her condition straight out, but it wasn't the sort of thing one was supposed to say over those computer things, she thought. It lacked a personal touch. Not to mention that once he arrived, she likely wouldn't have to say anything. Her body would make it all quite obvious.
She thought briefly about lining her floor with pillows, just in case he decided to do something silly like pass out from the shock. Granted, that wasn't like her Remus at all, but the idea made her stop and laugh a moment as she moved around the kitchen. She poked at the kettle with her wand until it boiled and then floated it through the air towards the two mugs on the counter. There was a smile on Tonks' lips as she continued to make tea for two, something she hadn't done regularly in months. At home she'd been anything but the typical housewife, but this was one thing she'd done constantly. Or tried to, anyway. Tea; every day and at the same time. Their lives had needed something constant back home, what with a war raging around them.
Tonks decided to float everything into the living room rather than to risk trying to carry it. Her gait was ungainly and clumsy as it was and with the extra weight she was downright unpredictable. There was no need to tempt fate.
The tea set down gently on the table and Tonks tucked her wand into the pocket of her jeans and turned around, glancing at herself in the mirror near the hallway entrance. She grinned at her reflection sheepishly, looking at her messily knotted pink hair, jeans, and long black and grey striped shirt that did nothing to hide the fact that she was about six or seven months in the family way. "Surprise, indeed," she mumbled to herself with a little smile.
