About: | 1. This game is rated NC-17 for occasional graphic depictions of sex (both heterosexual and homosexual), violence and alternate lifestyle activities/kink. If you are unable to handle any of these in a mature fashion then do not apply. 2. Please be aware of your grammar and spelling. Use a spell check and read over what you have written to try to weed out mistakes. 3. Due to the rating, all players must be above the legal age in their country/province to view such material. This game is open to het, slash and gen. Participation in both mod-driven and personally generated plot is expected though should a plot arise that makes you personally uncomfortable please discuss it with a mod and they will do their best to work out a compromise for you. 4. A key aspect of the Reading Room universe centers on 'special abilities' that characters will discover through the course of the game. Some characters will phase in and out of having these 'gifts', some will have them near constantly and some will have them rarely. Some characters may never have any, though all will have the potential whether you choose to let them know it or not. All powers may be subject to limitations by the mods (we can't have a bunch of uber Mary-Sues or deities walking around now, can we?) If your character was gifted in a past life then you may assign *one* of their past life powers to them though they will begin the game without it. If your character was *not* empowered in their past life one of the 'spares' (those powers not retained by others and therefore available to the collective) will be assigned to them. Where a character's power affects others (mind reading, mind control etc.) it is especially important to discuss these limitations with the mods before the character is begun. When and how characters recieve and lose their gifts is subject to mod discretion and will largely depend on nature of plot as the game progresses. Most importantly - Permission must ALWAYS be sought from other players before your character's gift is used on theirs. 5. Between major storylines it is the responsibility of each player to ensure their character continues to develop; establishing familial, working, friendly and romantic relationships is down to you, not the mods. All players are strongly encouraged to ensure their characters have connections outside of their immediate family and myth - this will be important during some story-arcs. 6. In Character drama should remain In Character and Out of Character drama should not occur at all. If, however, you are having OOC problems with another player, please speak to the mods. On that note, character bashing will not be tolerated. You may disagree with a characterization or dislike the character, but it is not acceptable to heckle the player. Please use common sense. 7. There is a four character cap at the moment - this may well change over time but the Mods are keen to ensure that people take *strong* muses as opposed to muses as favours for others, or muses on the spur of the moment without really thinking (something we the Mods have ourselves been guilty of in the past). With a high character cap it's all too easy to take a bunch of muses that it's difficult to maintain IC and hopefully a lower cap will help people to be pickier and choose the stronger ones. 8. Initially all characters are expected to post at least once a week though the update schedule may change once the game expands. Logs do not count, closed narratives do. It is expected that all characters will be played regularly - while we don't expect every character to get play every week if a character hasn't been played for a while we can and will query why. This may ultimately lead to a warning. While mods will generate plot for the game individual character plot is the responsibility of the individual players. Anything relating to personal/familial/romantic relationships is for you to initiate/pursue and if a character isn't getting played then it's down to you to ask other players for RP or interaction. And remember, the mods are players too (thankfully, it's what makes the work worth it). 9. If you need a leave of absence please write an ooc note and IM the Mods. 10. If you need to leave the game for any reason, let the mods know and post an OOC statement to that affect. We ask you to pass over character journals upon leaving so that we can decide what to do with your character. 11. While most characters from most universes are fair game there are some restrictions. Playing real people (whether historical figures or present day celebrities) is not allowed. That said *fictionalised* versions of real people is - the reincarnation of Shakespeare's Richard III is fine, the reincarnation of the *actual* Richard III isn't. 12. All characters will be given the opportunity to participate in mod-generated plot though naturally we won't be able to tailor the game to meet everyone's personal interests. If you wish to abstain from a plot it can be arranged and if you have ideas for plot you'd like to see pursued suggestions will always be welcomed. 13.There are four communities, each with a specific use. Logs and open narratives set on or in the library complex go into thereadingroom. All other logs and open narratives (except phonecalls) set anywhere outside of the complex go into other_room. Out of character comments and notes go in ooc_readingroom. All communication (emails between chars, texts, phone calls - even if they're logs or threads, deliveries...) go into the reading_comm. All administration posts that you need to complete before starting a character are available on the mod journal and these will be updated periodically. If any of that is unclear please feel free to check with a Mod, we'll be happy to clarify anything. 14. AIM is required. 15. Please keep all out of character comments in the ooc community. 16. Please cut any potentionally triggering posts: Mentions of rape, self-violence, abuse etc. If you're not sure, ask a mod. 17. The best way to contact the mods is usually by email and we have set up a mailing list that will ensure all mail goes to all three of us without being publically viewable. The address for that is: readingroommods@googlemail.com You may also contact us via AIM though please be aware that if it's game-related the mod you speak to will pass it on to the other mods unless you specifically ask them not to, when they'll share only the minimum to ensure everything runs smoothly. | ||||||||||
