George talking with Nana
Who: Georgina Lincoln, Nana Kimigawa-Kuo
What: An interview
When: Thursday evening
Where: John and Nana's home
Rating: G
Status: TBC
It had been an interesting day so far and George decided not to bother heading home, but now the lunch she'd had was finally settled she instead grabbed herself some coffee and settled into the corner of the cafe to start going over her notes. As she had done the early hours of that morning, she read through what she'd written down when with Grace and Miranda, making a few more notations regarding the conversation she'd had with both women - seemingly from both ends of the spectrum in some ways, but similar in others.
The time flew by, as it did when she was reading, and writing, and when she looked at her watch, the waitress asking her if she'd like another refill, her third, she shook her head. If she had any more she'd be so wired she wouldn't sleep that night, and it was time to catch a cab to the Kuo residence.
As she settled into the back seat of the cab she stared up at the high rise residential buildings they were traveling between. Having been born and brought up in the small town of Birch Creek, where the population was probably the same as the street they were stopped in, with all the high rise living blocks lining it, it still amazed her how people could live in such places. All her life she had walked out the door to be faced with the forest's edge, trails leading off into it, and able to walk only a few minutes to find peace and quiet, a place to take a deep breath and just close your eyes for a few minutes, imagine all the noise, and voices, and disagreements and people-clutter just fading away till there was only the silence of the forest.
It was something they'd taught all the kids, on their regular hikes and camping trips, to actually sit down at some point on the trail and 'listen to the silence'. Even in her backyard now, here in seattle, there wasn't the opportunity, and she reminded herself she needed to get back in touch with the hiking group she'd joined and find out about their next hike. She really needed to get out of the city's limits soon, and just 'listen to the silence'.
As the cab moved off again, the lights changing, she blinked and dragged her eyes back down and tried not to think about it all, pushing the memories back and turning her attention back to the task at hand. A short while later she was knocking on the front door of Nana and John's home.
