IC/OOC - A&A Engagement Party, 17 March 2000
Who: Family, Friends, Furbabies, Teammates... oh, and probably Ada and Alasdair.
What: ENGAGEMENT PARTY
When: Saturday, 17 March 2000. Evening. backdated
Where: A&A's home on the outskirts of Dunvegan, Skye.
Warnings: Drinking. Language? (Hopefully not the latter)

On the Saturday between both of their team’s matches, Alasdair and Ada hosted their long awaited engagement party. Yes, it’s on St Patrick’s Day, and no, the best man isn’t there (he was in Sweden for the Annual Broom race), but this will be a fun and relaxed affair, with more than a hint of French class, courtesy of the bride. Held at their home on Skye, the party takes place through the property, from early evening and on into the night. Guests have the run of the house (within reason - the bedrooms are warded shut) but are reminded on arrival that the neighbours to the North, sheep farmers, are Muggles (so watch the spellwork while outside!).

Speaking of guests, around the house several members of the Buchanan and Olivier families can be found, including Alasdair’s father, Duncan (former Portree Beater and Captain) and his mother, Mary. Ada’s parents, Francois and Margaret are also circulating. Alasdair’s brother, Will - who is one of the other ushers - is right in the centre of the celebrations, and Ada’s brother (Christophe), sister and brother-in-law (Francoise and Marc) with their children (Lea and Alexandre) are also around somewhere. The couple’s elderly witch neighbour, Madam Simcox, has ventured up from her property to the south to attend but spends a lot of time sitting, chatting and talking about how these two need to make sure they’re eating properly. Similarly, the Buchanan-Olivier cats can be found lounging in the living room. Some of them like fusses and pets more than others. Have fun with that!

After everyone has arrived, and people have had time to mingle a bit, everyone gathers in the living room. Alasdair and Ada have a date to announce...

When the speeches come around and it's time for the Best Man's speech, Scrimmy steps up to the plate with a long suffering sigh.

"So the best man is off racing brooms in Sweden, which is a pretty alright side job so we're gonna forgive him. He owled me his speech ta read but since I..." She gestured to her tiny blazer-wearing lady self. "Do not look anything like the best man..." Gesture to a picture of a not-tiny man in a pink boa and tiara that has come up to levitate next to her. "Yer gonna have ta use yer imagination but I'll help ye where possible."

She leans down to pull out of her shoulder bag a crafted paper crown Jason had sent, and a pair of (temporarily) pink charmed goggles. Putting the goggles on her forehead first, she then balances the paper crown on her head and transfigures herself something to stand on to look taller. "He sent me this," she points to the crown, just so people know.

Scrimmy adjusts her blazer, clears her throat, and does some vocal exercises. Which are namely her putting on a posh english accent (that is somehow both good and yet overthetop for Jason's accent) and saying: "Politics, politics, pink politics. Brooms and tiaras and Alasdair is better than me."

Now in (very convincing) character, Scrimmy looks pulls out Jason's speech and launches into it. It becomes obvious from sentence 2 that she is not staying on script because interspersed is her (scottish accented) opinions on the various parts such as the quaffle jokes ('okay he's actually good at these'), eagles ('nah these are stale), french food ('he wrote this, I haven't had enough of the stuff'), and Alasdair becoming Mr. Olivier (this one she leave unedited because she enjoys it).

After the first bit she starts skimming and skipping over bits until she decides this is long enough. "Yada yada yada, another shot about Alasdair who is better at everything, another bad eagle joke...do ye Claws not have any better ones?! Okay let's wrap this up," Scrim decides as she tosses the parchment over her shoulder and drops the "Jason King" (King makes him sound posh okay?!) character entirely.

"Alright keeping the crown because I can see why he likes one but I'll spare ye all the rest I think ye got the gist." She hops off her little stand and goes to pick up the champagne glass she set aside for this and hop back up.

"Alasdair is pretty much, as one medic here would say, The Brawest. And one o' my favourite people. I'd say favourite but I like my Da a ton and it'd make people jealous so we're not gonna. But he's pretty bloody great ta have around as a mate and head of the chaser crew.

I don't know Ada super well but Alasdair's great and has got good taste in everything except quid colours." She pauses here for a quick 'Sorry! Bright pink and purple aren't at the top of most people outside this room's list!'. "But if he's bloody braw and has good taste then she's pretty bloody braw by default too ye know?"

Scrimmy grins a little and raises her glass.

"So ta both of ye, thanks fer being so great and hope ye have all the years of being that brilliant together. Cheers!"

	Alasdair is definitely touched. He also appreciates Scrimmy's loyalty in adding the Alasdair is better bits! His response to the sweet ending is to kiss the top of Ada's head, and to hug Scrimmy when people have reacted. (Reply to this) (Parent)
