Does anyone have a solid contact inside the Department of Magical Transportation?

[WARD to MONTROSE ALL]

My family has expressed interest in coming out to the Wigtown match on Sunday. I believe some of you may have met them at the Solstice Sprint. They have a limited working knowledge of the sport, but want to come see me play to support me. Especially as they are not able to join me in Sweden.

My father is an engineer and will bore anyone and everyone with maths and physics questions about quidditch. It also my niece’s first birthday. She is adorable and may steal your birthday thunder, Florrie. I am sorry.

[WARD to AUGUSTUS PYE]

Pye, I had an interesting meeting the other day with Fraser Macmillan. I had asked if the Macmillan Foundation would be willing to support a Mental Health Practice at the Montrose Free Clinic, specializing in War Trauma. There is a lack of training programs and specialists to treat the issues are facing as a community and I think this could be a solid solution.

I know you deal in the other kind of trauma, but can you think of anyone who might be interested to sit on a committee to make this happen or even serve as director?

This is just in the idea phase right now, but there is momentum. I want to capitalize.
[//WARD to AUGUSTUS PYE]

[WARD to MONTE & JUSTIN]

I met with Fraser Macmillan on behalf of Montrose ownership and the Macmillan Foundation. Uplift is going to be entering into a partnership with them, hopefully to start a mental health practice at the Montrose Free Clinic. I think we can all agree that this is something we need.

I have also asked that someone either among ownership or BIQL publicly come out against what happened with Flint.

If you feel comfortable, I would appreciate if you accepted the invitation. I think it could give a good amount of weight to our movement.
[//WARD to MONTE & JUSTIN]

[WARD to DUNBAR]

I have been having some interesting conversations. What do you think QUABBLE can do to address hostile work environments in the league? Specifically with bullying among players. The Flint incident is not an isolated event, but surely there needs to be policy in place. Thoughts? Anything in the works?

Hullo.

I've been talking to my cousin Fraser about the plans for the match and I have a question for you, if it's all right.

Of course. What is your question?

I want to come and stand with my family in support of the new Uplift initiative but I'm aware that my name and my relationship to Corban Yaxley may be a concern a problem upsetting not be welcome.

I can also see how someone like Rita Skeeter could make you out to be hypocrites for having anything to do with me. Or say that I'm using you to save my name. I don't want that.

So I wanted to ask what you thought before I made a firm decision about attending the Wigtown match and sitting in the Montrose box. If you need to think about it, I understand. If you don't have an answer, I understand that too. You can only speak for yourself but I reckon you know what's helpful better than I do.

Thanks for your time.

My thoughts entirely depend on what your intentions are.

Firstly, what Rita Skeeter thinks of me or my work is not my concern. I don't think she has much by way of creditability. Second, If I am trying ignite social change this includes change the belief systems held by many pureblood families who have prospered for many years with de jure and de facto bigotry toward those not from magical families, squibs, and many other segregated groups.

So, my question for you is simple: Are you trying to use me or Uplift to save your name or do you honestly believe in what we are doing?

I don't think the Yaxley name is something that can be saved in public opinion so I'm not worried about that. Anyroad people are more likely to know Yaxleys who aren't Death Eaters from my sister. If she doesn't take Micah's name.

As for the rest of it, I think Muggleborns need a fair deal but I don't know how to make that happen. It's not just people who hate Muggles because they're afraid. It's also that wizards and witches all help their family members and Muggleborns have Muggle families. By definition every Muggleborn person is starting from scratch in the wizarding world, with no money and no connections. It's natural for people to love their family and want to help them. That's not something you can stop. You shouldn't even want to stop it. So I look at Uplift and see a big family for Muggleborns. That seems like a good idea.

Also the mental health thing, for people with war trauma. I know people who never went to Azkaban who need help. People who actually went have to have it worse so they need more. It'll be a hard sell to get people to take the help but it's worth having it when it's needed.

Also I have my own feelings about my Yaxley side of the family but I don't think you want or need to hear about that. Particularly about my Uncle Corban and my dad and some of the things that were said about marriages and suitability. Particularly about Aureliana.

I can go into that if you want to but there are things I don't talk about even with her. For good reasons.

That is a rather nice way to put it. Uplift is meant to be a family to give muggleborns and other disenfranchised people a chance at an even playing field.

The war effected everyone - be it those actively in Azkaban, the students at Hogwarts from what I've heard, and even the friends and family of those who had to sit trial for stealing magic, who helped people escape. It is not going to be an easy road. Many people are going to be resistant, but I don't want the limitation to be lack of resources.

As for hearing the Yaxley side of the story? I believe every story deserves to be told and heard, no matter how difficult those truths are. How are we ever supposed to be better if we do not first learn to listen? To understand where people come from?

[...]

The bottom line: if those are all things you can by? That you are willing to not just say, but help take action? Then you should go, be present with your family, and start actually showing people the world can change. It won't be easy or simple, but these things seldom are.

Sometime I'll tell you my side of my family's story, or write it down for you to read. But not today because it's an ugly story. If my uncle had had his way, it wouldn't have stopped with Muggleborns. A lot of people don't realise even now how far the killing would have gone.

There's no kind of hard that's worse than that. So I'll be there on the 11th and wear a rosette.

I am reminded of a passage by German pastor Martin Niemöller. He is well known for it now. But he has an interesting history. He was once a a supporter of Adolf Hitler (think non-magic Dark Lord), but became disillusioned. He started speaking out and was arrested and thrown in a concentration camp (think Azkaban). He spoke a lot publicly about is actions after World War II (for lack of a better comparison, the non-magical version of the war).

The passage is as follows:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

It never stops with just one group. And more importantly, people are allowed to change where they stand, to become better people. More importantly, we are at a time where we need to start building bridges.

When you are ready, if you are ever ready, I am willing to listen to your story. In the mean time, I look forward to seeing you and your family on the 11th.
