"Yeah he's good," Hamish agrees. "Montrose is a hell of a team to play against right away though, even if your all playing with less than a full team. Kinda scary, actually. And yeah, I know Oliver. He was in my house and alright if not a bit obsessed with the sport at times."

The mention of the Catapults catches his attention and he says, "I happen to know a really big Catapults fan. Actually, you should come with us to their match against the Pride if you can and convince Auggie to come with you."

And then, "Hufflepuff, huh? What year?"

Kal's still watching Jason work his magic, so her grin is perhaps a little extra wide at Hamish's compliment to Montrose. "I certainly wouldn't want to be the one facing down Jason right now," she says with a little laugh.

"Oh?" She's a little surprised at the invitation, though it's not unwelcome. She's been wanting to meet Augustus's other friends, even if the idea is also a bit terrifying. It occurs to her that this conversation has actually flowed pretty smoothly, and she wonders if Hamish himself is putting her at ease, or if it's the distraction of the game keeping her from being overly anxious about it. Maybe both. "I still have some friends on the team, so it would be great to see them when I wasn't hitting Bludgers at them. Though, considering Augustus has been coming to every game of mine that he can, I wouldn't want to make him sit through any more than he had to. It's not as if he's here for the Quidditch." Kal's cheeks go a bit warm at that, but she hopes he won't notice.

"I finished in '96. You were in Augustus's year, right? Gryffindor?"

"Me either," Hamish agrees, because who would? That man is letting nothing stop him.

He has to laugh when Kal mentions that Pye's not going to Kal's matches for the quidditch itself. "Trust me, anyone who knows Auggie knows that. But you should definitely come to the Catapults game and if he doesn't show we'll be sure to keep you entertained with every story he doesn't want you to hear." He's teasing, but it might be enough. "I've known him since my first year, and yeah. I was in Gryffindor. He helped make sure I made it through school."

Kal covers her mouth with one hand to hide her smile and cover her laugh, which otherwise would have been louder than she liked. "How will I know that you're not just making things up, if he's not there to defend himself?"

She cheers as yet another shot makes it through Puddlemere's hoops. The score seems like it should be higher than it is, as many goals as Jason's seemed to have made in the last hour. "Me, too." She smiles at the memory, and how she could never have expected to be here at that age. "He taught me disarming charms. I was a bit in awe of him after that, because they seemed pretty impossible at the time."

The question makes Hamish laugh and he doesn't hide it. "Yeah, I see why you're a good match for him," he tells her without further explanation. But that's good, Pye deserves someone who's going to have his back. Even so he adds, "Trust me though, you can't make any of this up."

Her admission surprises him, though it shouldn't have. Pye and Kal were housemates after all, so Hamish nods. "Yeah, well he put up with my annoying arse interrupting our study group every hour or so because I wanted to sneak down to the kitchens or do literally anything other than study."

Kal feels rather warm at the compliment, and not in a pink-cheeked sort of way. She sometimes struggles with meeting new people, but she wants to make a good impression on Augustus's friends, and that combination can't help but make her a little nervous. And it doesn't hurt that she agrees with him—she and Augustus are a good match. That's becoming more and more evident as they see one another. "All the same, I'll ask him if he wants to go," she says, still laughing.

"I was just amazed that a seventh year would even bother with me," she admitted, and then her eyes shifted back to the game for a moment, sweeping over the pitch to see how Lex and Georgi were doing, under the circumstances. "Though I was a pretty attentive student, so no sneaking to the kitchens for me. And by attentive, I mean I needed all the help I could get." Her eyes shift next to find Lennox, trying to see if he's caught any sign of the Snitch or is still looking for it. It's hard to tell, as many times as he's led James on a false trail already. But they need to end this. That much is clear.

"Good," Hamish says. "I'll warn you... this particular group? Can be a bit mental. But in a good way?" He isn't even going to try and prepare her for Maggie's parents. There aren't words to describe Muir properly, other than he's brilliant.

Following the game for a bit, he hesitated before telling Kal, "Yeah, well Auggie's that kinda bloke, isn't he? Doesn't matter who you are, he's gonna do his best to do right by you. And he was a pretty dedicated student so there are definitely few better who could've helped you out." He made a mental note never to mention this part of the conversation to Maggie, though. After all, he needed his friends help to get through school too.

"Anyway, we're a good lot. Just a bit intimidating all together, maybe."

"So far, I've met you, and I've met Maggie. Where would you rank the remainder of the group on the mental scale, then?" It's a joke, and she laughs a bit at it, but she's also curious.

"Yeah, he is." Her soft smile at that is just for her as her thoughts shift to Augustus, who's sure is at St. Mungo's now, seeing to Maddock. Probably wondering yet again why Bludgers were even invented, and why crazy people like her play this game. "Well, intimidating or not, I can't imagine Augustus staying friends for so long with people who weren't worth it."

Kal might have felt awkward at that unintentionally brown-nosing comment, except that all thoughts are interrupted by the refs EJECTING LENNOX. She jumps to her feet to protest just as loudly as the rest of the Montrose crowd at what is clearly a ridiculous call in a game full of ridiculous calls. She doesn't sit down again until Coach calls a timeout, and then it's only to bite her nail and squint down at the ground, trying to get some sense of what might be being discussed.

"This is insane," she says to no one in particular, though she remembers Hamish after a beat and adds, "That was clearly not Ramming. What are they thinking?"

Hamish never had a chance to respond and rank his friends on a mental scale, which was probably for the best, because yes, they were ejecting Lennox from the game.

"What the bloody hell is this game?" he mused, keenly aware that the woman next to him played for the team being unfairly penalised. However, when it came to a mental scale of matches he'd attended this one was now ranking high atop the list.

"Someone pay off the ref?" he asked, and he was only half-joking.

Kal can't even manage a laugh. She's watching the ground too intently. When Gregor apparates right out of his costume, she knows something is up. She doesn't know what, but Coach has something up his sleeve, and whatever it is, she's sure it's going to surprise everyone.

She isn't wrong. Her eyes go wide as the change of positions happens, and then suddenly she bursts out laughing. "Georgi. As the Seeker. The United have no idea what they're in for now." Because he may be a big, bulky Beater, but he's the most serious, focused, and dedicated player she knows...and if anyone can pull this off, he can. She points down toward the team box, where a flurry of activity is happening, and then a group heads toward the League box. She can make out some familiar faces among them. "Look. I hope no one tries to call it illegal now, because this game is ours."

She knows it. She can see the determination on her team members' faces as they take back to the sky. They have the point spread for it. Now if only the Snitch would make its appearance.

"Georgi?" Hamish asks, before catching up with what Kal was saying. "This game definitely tops the mental scale, and that's after getting hit by a bludger last match I went to."

And then, "What's he like, anyway?" The Bulgarian switching from beater to seeker had definitely raised his standing with Hamish, but that was superficial at best.

"You got crowd-bludgered?" Kal's eyebrows shot up. "Was that at the Portree-Holyhead match? I listened to that one on the wireless. They were crowd-bludger mad with that one. I hope it wasn't too bad a hit? Speaking from someone who bats the things around professionally—they hurt."

She was watching to see how Puddlemere would take this change, and while the officials were still heatedly discussing things on the sidelines, the players were doing their job—playing. Puddlemere's Chasers seemed to be hitting Micah with everything they had, but with Lex there to support, there was no way they were getting through the both of them. Kal couldn't stop grinning.

Where's the Snitch? She kept scanning, but so far it didn't appear that either Seeker had seen it.

"Who? Georgi?" She thought for a moment, eyes still on the game, though mostly things were at a standstill waiting for the Snitch. "Quiet, serious, gentle. Not that you'd believe that, watching him out there." She laughed, nodding toward the pitch. "Dedicated. Friendly and fun, once you get to know him a bit. It has to be hard, coming from another country to fill in on a partial-season contract, but he's been a great fit for us. I could probably introduce you after the match, if you like?"

"Yeah, I'd just bought a pint, was coming back to my seat and spilled the beer just in people rushing away... And then the bludger clipped my shoulder. Coulda been far worse, actually. It's just bruised. I was more upset about the beer." He lifted up the sleeve of his shirt to show her the bruise in all it's multicolour glory. "This will fade. I'll never get that beer back," he said with feigned solemnity.

Kal had Hamish's full attention as she gave him a rundown on Georgi. Those all seemed like positive traits that he filed away. And oh, he was tempted to take Kal up on the offer to meet him, but then thought better of it. "Nah, I don't wanna make you an accomplice," he told her. "That'd be rude, right? First time we met."

"Ouch," she says, at the sight of his bruised shoulder. "I hope you got some good bruise paste for it. Some weeks I could keep that company in business, I think, I use so much of the stuff."

Kal's face scrunches up in confusion. "An accomplice? What do you mean?" Because she has no idea.

"Nah," Hamish grins. "It'll heal on its own after all and until then it's a souvenir." No one ever said he didn't fall high on the mental scale of his group of friends after all.

And then he just shrugs. "I have my own reasons for wanting to know more about Georgi. Nothing bad," he assures her. "Just I don't want you caught in the middle of that." He can't imagine Pye would be too happy about him using Kal to spy on Peggy's new boyfriend either.

"Where's the bloody snitch?" he asks, changing the topic.

Kal still doesn't understand, but she files it away to ask Augustus later rather than trying to question Hamish further. At his question, her eyes dart around the pitch again. "I don't know, but it needs to hurry up. The team's holding things down, but they can't keep this up forever." They could probably for awhile longer, but even if their stamina would keep them flying, eventually their focus would start slipping. It was inevitable when players got tired, and Montrose had been stretched too thin already.

"Wait!" she says excitedly, grabbing his arm and pointing. A second later, the crowd roars and they're all on their feet again. Kal bounces up onto her toes, trying to get a better view. "Come on, come on, come on, Georgi," she murmurs to herself, as the two race for the Snitch.

And even though he doesn't get it, it's close. Really close.

And the Magpies are still the winners. Kal cheers loudly with the other fans, grinning so widely that her face hurts. "That. Was. Brilliant."

"That was brilliant," Hamish agrees, beaming at Kal. "And I'll let you go celebrate that victory with your team and check on Maddock's status. But it was a pleasure meeting you, Kal."

He flashes her a smile and then glances back, seeing his mates still there, seemingly in disbelief about the match. Understandable, as it was bloody mental.

"Let me know about the Catapults, yeah?" he asks, waiting for confirmation before disappearing the other direction.
