WHO: Everyone! IC/OC
WHEN: Thursday, 21 December 1999
WHERE: The Manor House, Macmillan Park
SUMMARY: Mid-Season (Christmas) Party hosted by the Montrose Magpies at Macmillan Park, cocktail dresses and blazers suggested.
RATING: Low

The Macmillan Family welcomes you to to Macmillan Park for the Mid-Season Yule party for all of Scottish Quidditch (and then some).

The Manor House is decorated for the season, with each room on the first floor having a display of its own. The public areas of the garden are also decorated and kept at a comfortable temperature (as long as you are wearing a cloak) with plenty of warming charms. Christmas crackers are available on all of the tables for all of your paper crown and terrible joke needs.

Finger foods and drinks (alcoholic and non) are plentiful. Eggnog can be made either way and if you want a hot chocolate with a splash of whisky, nobody is going to bat an eye. Entertainment is provided by the Tomnahurich Quartet and the Calanais Singers throughout the night in the main hall. A selection of seasonal songs in the muggle and wizarding traditions were planned, but both groups will take requests. They will be performing both together and separately.

For any children who joined their parents in the festivities, they have their own party going on upstairs in the rarely-used nursery (think very large and extensive playroom with bedrooms nearby and a schooling area). There are kid friendly foods, including sandwiches, personal pizzas in seasonal shapes, a Hot Chocolate Bar, and cherry flavored fizzy drinks. There are, of course, plenty of sweets to be had as well.

Peggy is here to dance. Better than listening to a silly quidditch race. Also she knows a lot of these people and they can distract her from her troubles without her needing to gets blitzed.

Georgi, who's had Peggy pointed out to him as an Urquhart daughter, approaches her when they're both between dance partners to introduce himself and very courteously and properly ask for a dance.

She remembers him from the Montrose-Caerphilly match, of course, and is delighted to accept his offer. She's a good dancer and capable of carrying on a conversation, and compliments him on his play; she remembers the details of some of his play and how well he'd done solo.

And is politely interested in what brings him here from Bulgaria, though in a purely social way. (She's off work and off the record for the evening, thanks!)

He's impressed she remembers that stuff and says so! At the question about why he came to Scotland, he considers what to say for a minute, but since he's already told Lex and Mel and he doesn't like lying, he answers honestly, "I am supposed to be married, and I don't want to marry the girl my mother has picked for some reasons." He smiles sheepishly. "So when I had the chance to come far away for some months, I did. Is easier than saying no to my mother."

Well that's a scoop she'll never use.

"Ahhhhh," Peggy says. "My mother wants me to marry Fraser Macmillan but neither one of us is that interested and we think of each other as family first. So I understand that."

"You're close related?" Georgi clicks his tongue because he knows that feel. "Macmillans are a good family. But maybe if you want to marry someone else, your mother won't mind?"

"I think if I made a good marriage, Mum and Da would be happy for me." Peggy was pretty sure Da would feel that way even if Mum was always going to be a bit disappointed. "I'm not in a rush, but I do have my eye out for eligible gentlemen," she added, just to be clear on that point.

That's not surprising to Georgi (in point of fact, knowing she was unmarried and pureblooded is why he asked her to dance) and he gives her a shy, half-embarrassed smile because this is so awkward. "Would you consider to marry someone who is not British? Maybe live outside Scotland?"

Peggy is a good dancer and can follow all leads.

Alasdair chuckles, giving Peggy a spin once they’re further out onto the dance floor.

“Good. The reputation of the more reasonable amongst us is an important one to protect,” he grins.

Alec will go for a dance nearer the end of the night! (when you've danced with all the partners you want or need to and it's when the stragglers or ones you don't want get bold) And ask her how it's been going so far.

Peggy will have a couple of things to talk about after the party but probably not while they're there. How are things going for Alec?

Alec is happy to leave them until after and not pry, if Peggy says it's not for the party then it's not for the party.

He's pretty good for once, work is good busy, he managed to escape mum almost suggesting they get permission for a little music room performance, and one of his side projects turned out better than he hoped. Namely that dramatic foghorn-type noise some people heard on the dancefloor earlier. All in all not bad on his end.

(ooc: someone needs to get Agnes Urquhart for their next event so she can show them how things are really done)

Understandable but a bit of a shame. Would've seen quite a stunned and embarrassed but irate looking Maggie there. Turns out her purse has been making some awful ominous foghorn type sounds on a certain cue all day and now it's become random. Really quite embarrassing and apparently made her work rather difficult for her...

Alec gives his sister a small smile, hoping the purpose and parallel he was going for was clear enough.

Only if I'm not expected to snog a bloke with a ratty fake goatee.

Hey, you don't even have a goatee. And if you did, it would be a real one. Let's dance.

Everyone needs to see what three years at Madame Miller's Dance Academy for Young Witches and Wizards can teach a couple... about dancing.

He leads her to the floor and swings her out, making sure that she has the chance to do flashy moves if she likes.

"I'm completely not sorry I was seen by Circe, but I can't understand why you'd ever fake a goatee. Beard-growing elixir is cheap, and you can shave it off between shows."

Peggy's not feeling flashy tonight for whatever reason; she's not having trouble keeping up but she doesn't have the urge to show off.

"I wouldn't have minded being 'seen' by Circe if it had been me they saw."
