WHO: Everyone! IC/OC
WHEN: Thursday, 21 December 1999
WHERE: The Manor House, Macmillan Park
SUMMARY: Mid-Season (Christmas) Party hosted by the Montrose Magpies at Macmillan Park, cocktail dresses and blazers suggested.
RATING: Low

The Macmillan Family welcomes you to to Macmillan Park for the Mid-Season Yule party for all of Scottish Quidditch (and then some).

The Manor House is decorated for the season, with each room on the first floor having a display of its own. The public areas of the garden are also decorated and kept at a comfortable temperature (as long as you are wearing a cloak) with plenty of warming charms. Christmas crackers are available on all of the tables for all of your paper crown and terrible joke needs.

Finger foods and drinks (alcoholic and non) are plentiful. Eggnog can be made either way and if you want a hot chocolate with a splash of whisky, nobody is going to bat an eye. Entertainment is provided by the Tomnahurich Quartet and the Calanais Singers throughout the night in the main hall. A selection of seasonal songs in the muggle and wizarding traditions were planned, but both groups will take requests. They will be performing both together and separately.

For any children who joined their parents in the festivities, they have their own party going on upstairs in the rarely-used nursery (think very large and extensive playroom with bedrooms nearby and a schooling area). There are kid friendly foods, including sandwiches, personal pizzas in seasonal shapes, a Hot Chocolate Bar, and cherry flavored fizzy drinks. There are, of course, plenty of sweets to be had as well.

"You're close related?" Georgi clicks his tongue because he knows that feel. "Macmillans are a good family. But maybe if you want to marry someone else, your mother won't mind?"

"I think if I made a good marriage, Mum and Da would be happy for me." Peggy was pretty sure Da would feel that way even if Mum was always going to be a bit disappointed. "I'm not in a rush, but I do have my eye out for eligible gentlemen," she added, just to be clear on that point.

That's not surprising to Georgi (in point of fact, knowing she was unmarried and pureblooded is why he asked her to dance) and he gives her a shy, half-embarrassed smile because this is so awkward. "Would you consider to marry someone who is not British? Maybe live outside Scotland?"

Well, it would certainly solve all of her problems.

And she could come home sometimes.

"I'd be willing to consider it," Peggy says carefully, "for the right fellow. I'd want to visit my family and have them visit me, and of course I'd want to take part in public life and have a career of some sort. I'm not meant for staying at home only. I assume as a Scot, Ministry work wouldn't be an option. What does your family do?"

"Draganovs run the only respectable Bulgarian newspaper," he answers, well used to this line of dialogue. "My father is editor, and one day my sister will be. But my mother is a Hristova. You know Hristov Kompaniya? Company," he corrects for the English word. "Biggest maker of paper in Europe. My mother is heir, and I am after her. Your family is doing some business with my family already, I think."

Peggy smiles, because this is a good answer, and her mother can't even argue with that. "I didn't realise," she says. "But yes, I know the Hristov name. Excellent quality. I'm working for the Prophet to learn that side of the publishing industry, but I've always intended to go back to Whizz Hard as an editor. So I have the skills to work with your family, and can do some writing and editing even with young children in the house.

"And if you wanted a few more seasons at quidditch, you could play here in Scotland, or elsewhere in Europe, and we could return to Bulgaria when you're ready to retire."

By the end of all that Georgi is a little wide-eyed, but he can't really argue that it's not a bad plan. Not that he would argue. "Yes," he agrees meekly. "I think... you are very clever. Planning ahead." His smile is weak. "Are you... in a hurry? For marriage?"

"No." Peggy shakes her head. "I'm not in a rush. With girls they just tell us we have to think about married life early and often."

She pauses on how to figure out to say the next bit. "If it's agreeable, I'd like to get to know you better. No obligations, though, and if we don't suit, we'll be friends."

"Yes," Georgi agrees immediately, intensely relieved she didn't bring up contracts and payments next. "I think that will be nice. I am not busy, you know, no Quidditch for some time. So when you are free one day, maybe we will have lunch and talk."

"Perhaps after the New Year? I'd like that." Now that they understand each other, Peggy is absolutely not in a hurry. "My schedule is flexible until the fifteenth as well."

Georgi bows to her, very properly, as the music comes to an end. "Yes, after New Year is good. I will owl you." He gives her a tentative smile. "Thank you, Peggy. For the dance."

Peggy knows how to make a proper curtsey, and she does. "Thank you, Georgi. It was a pleasure."
