Minor Injury Meme

A meme for those minor injuries that won't leave you down but make it hard to live your life. The breaks, sprains, and the hurt/comfort that comes with them.

INJURIES

1. SPRAIN: you stepped the wrong way, twisted the wrong way, and something has gone terribly wrong. Just remember RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

2. FRACTURE: You step off the sidewalk, working in the backyard, and suddenly BAM!! But it's not a sprain, oh no, you're in a cast for the duration. Good luck trying to get to work.

3. PULLED: It's not bad enough for medical attention but it still hurts something fierce. Break out the tiger balm or someone to give you a hand because you've pulled something. That awkward moment when you think you want vicodin...and nobody will give it to you.

4. MIGRAINE: Light hurts, air hurts, moving hurts. All you can do is lie in a darkened room and pray for the pounding pain to go away behind your eyes.

5. THE FLU: Maybe you're physically fine – well… all your limbs are working. You just feel like death warmed over.

6. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

SCENARIOS

1. INJURED! WHAT NEXT?: You're out working, you're out having fun, you're out doing something when suddenly you step, twist, move and our bodies demonstrate just how fragile they really are. Quick! someone call the ambulance!

2. THE EMERGENCY ROOM: All the fun of a waiting room with rewards that include crutches, casts, X-Rays, vicodin, and sometimes just that one nurse who says "Yeah there's nothing wrong with you that'll be 400 dollars."

3. HOME AND SETTING UP THE NEST: Hurt, trying to make a space for you to get around. Hopefully someone is there to help you get to your crutches so you can go to the bathroom and make yourself something to eat.

4. PHYSICAL THERAPY HOME EDITION: The obligatory smut option. Do you not see that I'm wearing this cast?

5. OH GOD HELP I'M GOING TO DIE: That awkward moment when the fact that you are bedridden is crushing down on you and you're terrified you'll do something to make the injury worse. Snappish, angry, and rude - who are you going to take it out on?

6. DRIVE ME TO THE DOCTOR THIS SHIT IS COMING OFF: It's time, they say you can come in, take it off, and begin the next stage of recovery. Failing that, you’re going to grab a saw and cut the damn thing off yourself! Will there be joy, laughter, crying, happiness?

7. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

"I don't.. . I don't know." Johnny said, trying and failing not to sound scared. He looked at it, not even sure what could be wrong, and that terrified him. "This is the first time this has happened." He said, at least, since he was younger and fucked up in a match, or something, that was. He looked up at Daniel. Maybe he should go to the hospital.

Coughing up blood was never good. He tried to keep his breathing even. "Gotta do something. What do I do?" He asked, sounding terrified. And ill, his voice was scratchy from throwing up and from the drainage in his sinuses.

Hopefully it was nothing. But coughing up blood was never nothing, was it? Like, coughing up blood was usually something pretty serious or something. Daniel tried to seem calm but inside he was freaking the fuck out.

"I'm taking you to the hospital. No arguments, Johnny. I'm taking you to the hospital and they're going to look you over and figure out what the fuck is wrong. And hopefully it's nothing and you'll be back in bed watching crappy daytime TV before you know it."

Hating that Daniel was right, Johnny heaved a sigh. "Okay. Fine, you can take me to the hospital." He knew that if their roles were reversed, he'd be doing the same thing with Daniel. So he couldn't argue with him.

Coughing again, more blood was on the tissue. Okay, now he was really freaking the fuck out. "Oh fuck." He managed to gasp, "Baby, I love you, but it's definitely something." Johnny was glad that Daniel was trying to be positive, though, it was adorable.

Daniel tried not to let the fear show on his face. He patted Johnny's arm lightly. "Okay. Hospital. Now. It'll be quicker to drive than it will be to wait for an ambulance."

He was freaking out. Absolutely terrified. Coughing up blood like that couldn't be anything good. If it had just been a little blood in the mucus then it could just be from irritating his throat with coughing but this... this was proper blood.

He grabbed another wad of tissues and a bottle of water and shoved them at Johnny. "Let's go."

Johnny nodded. "Good thing I was dressed in something that's at least half presentable." He was wearing a pair of Daniel's sweat pants and a Bon Jovi tee shirt. He grabbed onto Daniel for support. He didn't like this, and he knew that Daniel was just as freaked out as he was.

"Okay. This has to be okay." Johnny said, taking a sip of the water. He moved slowly, hoping that he wasn't going to have to throw up again. Johnny couldn't turn his brain off. What might be wrong kept running through his head.

The sweatpants sit too short in the leg, but they still looked good on Johnny, and Daniel always loved the way Johnny looked in a band tee. But honestly, he would still drag Johnny to the hospital in nothing but his underwear if he had to because he needed medical attention.

"Course it's going to be okay. You're Johnny Lawrence. Take more than a bit of blood to finish you off..." Daniel tried to sound confident, but inside he was panicking. He wrapped an arm around Johnny so that he could help him to the car.

Johnny brushed his free hand through his blonde hair, messing it up even more than it already was. He bit his lip, leaning into Daniel as they walked. "Yeah, and you're supposed to marry me so I can be a LaRusso, Mr. fussy." Johnny said, trying to keep it light.

He knew how much they were both freaking out. Johnny also knew that Daniel was two seconds away from losing his shit, and he loved Daniel more for trying to keep calm. "Babe, it's okay. You don't have to sound like you think it's gonna be okay."

"No, see? It's gotta be okay. You've gotta be okay because I can't marry you if you're not here. So, it's gonna be okay. The docs are gonna fix you right up and I'm gonna get a ring on that finger of yours."

Once at the car, Daniel pulled open the passenger door and unceremoniously dumped Johnny inside, before racing around to the drivers side and getting in. He put the car in drive and pulled out of the driveway. "It's going to be okay..."

	Johnny righted himself in the seat, he didn't blame Daniel for the rush. He had brought along some tissues. Just in case he had to cough again. 	Daniel nodded and tried to focus on his breathing. He needed to calm down before he ended up having a full-blown panic attack behind the wheel, because crashing the car and killing them both was the opposite of what he wanted to do. "I'm okay. 	Johnny knew that they were both scared. He was trying to help keep them both together. He was scared as fuck. He'd gotten into a fight recently with Kreese, he could have internal bleeding. Johnny sighed, coughing more blood up into a tissue. "He attacked me at Miyagi Do after you left the other day." He told him, wishing that he had just told Daniel this the other day. "He whooped my ass, kicked my side for at least five minutes." Johnny leaned his head against the window.

He felt guilty. Even though he knew that he shouldn't. Kreese was insane. Johnny bit his lip and tried to keep his groaning quiet. "Told me he wanted to kill me. Said someone named Terry is coming?"

Daniel's grip on the steering wheel tightened at the sound of that name to the point his knuckles were white. He knew he should keep driving. He needed to get Johnny to the hospital, needed to get him medical attention. But he could barely see clearly, felt like he was choking on his own breath.

He pulled off of the road and slammed on the brakes. "Did you say 'Terry'?" He asked, his breathing speeding up, heart racing.

"Babe? You okay?" He asked, coughing again. When Daniel slammed on the brakes, Johnny only barely managed to keep from throwing up. "Yeah, I said Terry. Why? Do you know him?" Johnny asked, he could tell that Daniel was upset. What he didn't know was why. He was nearly delirious, his fever was spiking. Johnny was having a hard time staying awake and paying attention to the seriousness of the situation.

Johnny tried to pay attention. "I'm sorry, baby, I'm trying to grasp the seriousness. But I'm having a hard time, I think my fever is spiking."

	Daniel looked like he was going to throw out, but he nodded. "Yeah... I know him." He tried to get his breathing back under control enough to drive. Johnny laid his head back against the headrest. Then his eyes slid shut. "I don't know if I can stay conscious, baby." Johnny said, and he wondered where Sam was, if she had been home, she could have driven, because Daniel seemed to be having a hard time. When Johnny was feeling better, he was going to ask what this Terry had done to Daniel. It sounded serious, if Daniel's reaction was anything to go by.

His breathing started to even out. "Sorry, baby.... But I'm....." He couldn't finish, he had fallen asleep.

Daniel put his foot down and sped the rest of the way to the hospital. He doubted he would be able to carry an unconscious Johnny when he'd be all mass and deadweight, so he pulled up the car as close to the doors as he could and got out, running inside the hospital.

"Help! I need help, please?! It's my partner. He's unconscious! He's been coughing up blood. And he lost consciousness a few minutes ago!"

A few nurses came out, and waved for some EMTs that were standing near the entrance, because they quickly saw that they wouldn't be able to lift him on their own. Everyone who could moved to carefully lift him onto a gurney. Several of the nurses hurried him off to the ER, and one stayed behind to talk to Daniel.

"Sir, I'll need you to come with me and fill out some forms." She told him, and did her best to sound comforting.

	"He's going to be okay, sir, they'll do their best to fix whatever is wrong." She told him, and led him inside to the nurses' station, where she searched for a moment for the forms. "We need insurance information, if any, and permission to do what is needed, and if there is a DNR, that needs to be signed." She seemed reluctant to tell him that part. 	"Why would he have a DNR? He's a perfectly healthy guy..." Daniel's brow furrowed. Just the thought of Johnny possibly having a DNR made his stomach knot. "Some people have them, we have to give you the option, sir." She said, as she took his card and cash card to run them through the scanner. "Is he on your plan, sir?" She asked, and immediately added, "We have to ask, no one is accusing you of fraud." She wasn't trying to upset him further. She understood why he was, and was doing her best to avoid it getting worse.

"He's going to be in surgery for awhile, you can call anyone you need to." She told him, bracing herself for him to get upset.

"Uh, yeah. He's on my plan. We cohabitate." Daniel retrieved his driver's license from his wallet as proof of ID that he was who he said he was. He knew Johnny hadn't had insurance for a long time. He wondered just how many injuries he left untreated because he couldn't afford it... it made his heart and head hurt. No one should suffer because they aren't rich.

Daniel knew that feeling all too well. He was supposed to have had surgery on his knee back when he was a teen but there was no way his Ma could afford it. It still gave him trouble from time to time.

"I need to call our daughter."

Handing him back his cards, she took a look at his driver's license. "Okay. I'll leave out the DNR, but we need to know of any allergies, past medical history, things like that." She said, handing him a clipboard with forms on it, and a pen.

"It's a good idea to call her, in case she wants to be here with you. My name is Elizabeth, you can have them page me if you need anything, or you have any questions." She told him, and touched his wrist briefly. "I'm not going to lie to you, if it's internal bleeding, it could be bad. You should be prepared for anything that could happen."
