Minor Injury Meme

A meme for those minor injuries that won't leave you down but make it hard to live your life. The breaks, sprains, and the hurt/comfort that comes with them.

INJURIES

1. SPRAIN: you stepped the wrong way, twisted the wrong way, and something has gone terribly wrong. Just remember RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

2. FRACTURE: You step off the sidewalk, working in the backyard, and suddenly BAM!! But it's not a sprain, oh no, you're in a cast for the duration. Good luck trying to get to work.

3. PULLED: It's not bad enough for medical attention but it still hurts something fierce. Break out the tiger balm or someone to give you a hand because you've pulled something. That awkward moment when you think you want vicodin...and nobody will give it to you.

4. MIGRAINE: Light hurts, air hurts, moving hurts. All you can do is lie in a darkened room and pray for the pounding pain to go away behind your eyes.

5. THE FLU: Maybe you're physically fine – well… all your limbs are working. You just feel like death warmed over.

6. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

SCENARIOS

1. INJURED! WHAT NEXT?: You're out working, you're out having fun, you're out doing something when suddenly you step, twist, move and our bodies demonstrate just how fragile they really are. Quick! someone call the ambulance!

2. THE EMERGENCY ROOM: All the fun of a waiting room with rewards that include crutches, casts, X-Rays, vicodin, and sometimes just that one nurse who says "Yeah there's nothing wrong with you that'll be 400 dollars."

3. HOME AND SETTING UP THE NEST: Hurt, trying to make a space for you to get around. Hopefully someone is there to help you get to your crutches so you can go to the bathroom and make yourself something to eat.

4. PHYSICAL THERAPY HOME EDITION: The obligatory smut option. Do you not see that I'm wearing this cast?

5. OH GOD HELP I'M GOING TO DIE: That awkward moment when the fact that you are bedridden is crushing down on you and you're terrified you'll do something to make the injury worse. Snappish, angry, and rude - who are you going to take it out on?

6. DRIVE ME TO THE DOCTOR THIS SHIT IS COMING OFF: It's time, they say you can come in, take it off, and begin the next stage of recovery. Failing that, you’re going to grab a saw and cut the damn thing off yourself! Will there be joy, laughter, crying, happiness?

7. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

"No, see? It's gotta be okay. You've gotta be okay because I can't marry you if you're not here. So, it's gonna be okay. The docs are gonna fix you right up and I'm gonna get a ring on that finger of yours."

Once at the car, Daniel pulled open the passenger door and unceremoniously dumped Johnny inside, before racing around to the drivers side and getting in. He put the car in drive and pulled out of the driveway. "It's going to be okay..."

	Johnny righted himself in the seat, he didn't blame Daniel for the rush. He had brought along some tissues. Just in case he had to cough again. 	Daniel nodded and tried to focus on his breathing. He needed to calm down before he ended up having a full-blown panic attack behind the wheel, because crashing the car and killing them both was the opposite of what he wanted to do. "I'm okay. 	Daniel's eyes widened as he gazed away from the road and at Johnny with a look of disbelief. "Holy shit. Johnny. Why the hell didn't you tell me this sooner? Why am I just learning this now?" Johnny sighed, coughing more blood up into a tissue. "He attacked me at Miyagi Do after you left the other day." He told him, wishing that he had just told Daniel this the other day. "He whooped my ass, kicked my side for at least five minutes." Johnny leaned his head against the window.

He felt guilty. Even though he knew that he shouldn't. Kreese was insane. Johnny bit his lip and tried to keep his groaning quiet. "Told me he wanted to kill me. Said someone named Terry is coming?"

Daniel's grip on the steering wheel tightened at the sound of that name to the point his knuckles were white. He knew he should keep driving. He needed to get Johnny to the hospital, needed to get him medical attention. But he could barely see clearly, felt like he was choking on his own breath.

He pulled off of the road and slammed on the brakes. "Did you say 'Terry'?" He asked, his breathing speeding up, heart racing.

"Babe? You okay?" He asked, coughing again. When Daniel slammed on the brakes, Johnny only barely managed to keep from throwing up. "Yeah, I said Terry. Why? Do you know him?" Johnny asked, he could tell that Daniel was upset. What he didn't know was why. He was nearly delirious, his fever was spiking. Johnny was having a hard time staying awake and paying attention to the seriousness of the situation.

Johnny tried to pay attention. "I'm sorry, baby, I'm trying to grasp the seriousness. But I'm having a hard time, I think my fever is spiking."

	Daniel looked like he was going to throw out, but he nodded. "Yeah... I know him." He tried to get his breathing back under control enough to drive. Johnny laid his head back against the headrest. Then his eyes slid shut. "I don't know if I can stay conscious, baby." Johnny said, and he wondered where Sam was, if she had been home, she could have driven, because Daniel seemed to be having a hard time. When Johnny was feeling better, he was going to ask what this Terry had done to Daniel. It sounded serious, if Daniel's reaction was anything to go by.

His breathing started to even out. "Sorry, baby.... But I'm....." He couldn't finish, he had fallen asleep.

Daniel put his foot down and sped the rest of the way to the hospital. He doubted he would be able to carry an unconscious Johnny when he'd be all mass and deadweight, so he pulled up the car as close to the doors as he could and got out, running inside the hospital.

"Help! I need help, please?! It's my partner. He's unconscious! He's been coughing up blood. And he lost consciousness a few minutes ago!"

A few nurses came out, and waved for some EMTs that were standing near the entrance, because they quickly saw that they wouldn't be able to lift him on their own. Everyone who could moved to carefully lift him onto a gurney. Several of the nurses hurried him off to the ER, and one stayed behind to talk to Daniel.

"Sir, I'll need you to come with me and fill out some forms." She told him, and did her best to sound comforting.

	Daniel didn't want to leave Johnny's side. He was in a bad way and Daniel wanted to stay near him. A whine bubbled from the back of his throat as Johnny was rushed away. He gave a nod to the nurse. "Uh, yeah. Sure. Lead the way." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"He's going to be okay, sir, they'll do their best to fix whatever is wrong." She told him, and led him inside to the nurses' station, where she searched for a moment for the forms. "We need insurance information, if any, and permission to do what is needed, and if there is a DNR, that needs to be signed." She seemed reluctant to tell him that part. 	"Why would he have a DNR? He's a perfectly healthy guy..." Daniel's brow furrowed. Just the thought of Johnny possibly having a DNR made his stomach knot. "Some people have them, we have to give you the option, sir." She said, as she took his card and cash card to run them through the scanner. "Is he on your plan, sir?" She asked, and immediately added, "We have to ask, no one is accusing you of fraud." She wasn't trying to upset him further. She understood why he was, and was doing her best to avoid it getting worse.

"He's going to be in surgery for awhile, you can call anyone you need to." She told him, bracing herself for him to get upset.

"Uh, yeah. He's on my plan. We cohabitate." Daniel retrieved his driver's license from his wallet as proof of ID that he was who he said he was. He knew Johnny hadn't had insurance for a long time. He wondered just how many injuries he left untreated because he couldn't afford it... it made his heart and head hurt. No one should suffer because they aren't rich.

Daniel knew that feeling all too well. He was supposed to have had surgery on his knee back when he was a teen but there was no way his Ma could afford it. It still gave him trouble from time to time.

"I need to call our daughter."

Handing him back his cards, she took a look at his driver's license. "Okay. I'll leave out the DNR, but we need to know of any allergies, past medical history, things like that." She said, handing him a clipboard with forms on it, and a pen.

"It's a good idea to call her, in case she wants to be here with you. My name is Elizabeth, you can have them page me if you need anything, or you have any questions." She told him, and touched his wrist briefly. "I'm not going to lie to you, if it's internal bleeding, it could be bad. You should be prepared for anything that could happen."

Daniel slid all the cards back into his wallet and took the clipboard and the pen. He stared down at the paper, suddenly realising he knew very little about those kinds of things when it came to Johnny.

He loved Johnny. Their relationship hadn't exactly had a normal path. But he loved him. But looking at the form he was drawing a blank. He filled in what few bits he knew. He wondered whether he should call Bobby. He would probably know more.

Instead, he called Sam. She would want to know about Johnny. They got on strangely well, all things considered.

Sam was just getting home, she'd been out with Miguel and Demetri. She was surprised that Demetri hadn't invited Yasmin, but maybe they weren't really serious enough for actually hanging out and going on dates together. So it had just been the three of them.

After she'd kicked off her shoes and was on the way to get a soda, she noticed her phone ringing. "Hey, Dad." She said, as she picked it up. "You and Johnny aren't home? I thought he was sick. I brought him some ice cream." She said, as she put it away in the freezer.

It was rocky road, his favorite. Not that he would admit that to anyone out loud.

	Daniel could feel the panic rising now he actually had to say the words. He forced himself to take a few deep breaths. "We're at the hospital. He was coughing up blood. Then he deteriorated in the car. They... they've rushed him into surgery." Fuck. Saying it out loud made it so much more real. "They... they're... there's a chance he might not pull through..." "Dad, oh my God!" Sam said, putting her drink down on the kitchen table. She hadn't expected this. "Do you want me to come?" She asked, her heart was beating a mile a minute. Sam didn't know what her dad was going to do if he lost Johnny. She knew that they loved each other, and they were really cute together.

This was probably not a good time to tell him about the kid she met while she was out. It was still crazy to her, and she knew that he was going to think it was too. "What happened? Did he tell you? Or does he not know?"

This was crazy. Sam wondered if it was Kreese or anyone from Cobra Kai.

"Apparently Kreese kicked the crap out of him the other day." Daniel let out a heavy, shaky sigh. "I should've noticed. I should've noticed there was something wrong. Maybe if I'd brought him to the hospital when it happened... if I'd just... fuck..."

Tears rolled down his cheeks and he tried desperately to wipe them away with his free hand. "Internal bleeding... and the nurse was talking about DNR and I just..." Daniel swallowed hard. He couldn't burden Sam with his worries. She was a kid.

"I'll be okay, sweetheart. You do whatever you were going to do tonight. My other card is in the drawer if you wanna order takeout. I'll keep you updated."

"I'm coming, Dad." She said, as she went back for her shoes. "You're not doing this by yourself." She told him firmly. "And um... there was something I had to tell you." Sam slipped her feet back into her sandals, glad she didn't have to adjust any buckles or anything to get them on.

After her shoes were on, she moved to grab her keys. And her purse, which she didn't usually carry. "I met someone today. His name is Deacon. Deacon... LaRusso." Sam had been surprised, she hadn't thought there was anyone named LaRusso she didn't at least know of, and then he'd told her he was named for his father, Daniel.

He hadn't been looking for Sam specifically, but he was looking for Daniel. He wanted to meet him. He'd just found out that Daniel was alive, which was apparently something that his mother had neglected to tell him. Sam was just curious as to how he could be Daniel's, he would never have cheated on her mother. Even if apparently Amanda hadn't had that same idea.

"I'm leaving now." She added, as she got outside and headed for her car.

The name wasn't familiar. As far as Daniel was aware, they were the only LaRussos in the area. He didn't like the heavy weight that settled in his gut though. "Who? Where did you meet him? Where is he from?"

Daniel had never cheated on Amanda. But they had invited others into their bed on occasion. A completely mutual agreement. Only, maybe more mutual on Amanda's part. Looking back, Daniel realised that it was always Amanda who pushed for it. He just went along with it. Usually it was men, but occasionally it would be a woman.

But they had always been so careful. Surely there couldn't have been any accidents... or if there had, he and Amanda would've known about it, right?
