Who: Lucas Scott and Layla Williams
When: Day 30 late evening.
What: Lucas Scott and Layla Williams meet.
Rating: Probably PG just to be safe.
Status: Complete.

Lucas had spend some time in the library and was now taking a walk around the place. He was hoping to find some way to get back to Gilmore. He didn't think he would but he hoped he figured that he should at least try.

He stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked down by the lake. He looked out on the lake and watched the waves lap for a few moments.

"Heh heh. I don't know about that," he said. He looked at her and smiled when she asked about his him and his life.

"You really want to know more about me?" he asked.

"OK, well where do I start? OK, well my father didn't want me to be born. He asked my mom to get rid of me. He took no part in raising me. My mom raised me with the help of my Uncle Keith. I have a half-brother Nathan and we grew up hating each other. We both ended up on the same basketball team and he put me try some crap like stealing my clothes and towel so I had to walk down the corridor with just two basketballs covering me and other stuff like that. Then my best friend Haley started to tutor him to get him to leave me alone and they ended up falling for each other. They are married now and have a baby together. I fell for two girls in High School and I guess half the book is about one and half the book is about the other. I'm not with either of them now and I don't think I'll ever be with either of them again. They are still my friends and I love them both but as friends. The hardest part to write was the school shooting. That was the day I lost.... I lost my Uncle Keith. An old friend took some of my friends hostage in the school. He shot Peyton in the leg and he shot himself. And for a while I thought he'd shot my Uncle but he hadn't. My father had done that. Keith... he was going to adopt me and marry my mom," he said pausing for a moment to compose himself.

"He left me with a baby sister, Lily. When I was in High School I found out I have a genetic heart defect called HCM. In my senior year I had a heart attack and Keith came to me. He showed me what things would be like if I had been a lesser person and to open my eyes to what happened that day which helped me figure out that it was Dan. Then after High School I went to Gilmore and became the Coach of the Cobras."

He looked at her like when he'd finished speaking.

"So, you want to tell me about your life?" he asked.

"Well, I think you, so indulge me, pretty please?" Layla batted her eyes at him and smiled warm and encouraging.

"Yes, I really do. So, spill!" She said all full of enthusiasm.

"At the beginning, middle or end, I don't mind." When Lucas began speaking, Layla really listened, she was truly interested in him. When he spoke about his father she bit her lip and looked at him wide eyed. "I'm so sorry to hear that, but I am glad you were and I bet your mother, best friend and family all are, I sure am glad you were." Layla said, trying to be helpful. "Ouch," she said when he mentioned what his brother and teammates did, knowing full well how other teammates can be truly evil. Layla gulped pretty audibly when he mentioned having to walk around naked with two basketballs, her mind going back to him being topless earlier. "Uh huh," she sounded rather strained when she replied to that comment. "Well, it all worked out for the best right, and well, true love is an amazing and beautiful thing. It usually comes at the wrong time and between the weirdest people and set of circumstances, but it is amazing nonetheless. Right?" Layla hip checked him with a smile when she asked that question.

"Oh, wow, they are very lucky girls and that is nice, that you are still friends." She gasped hard when he mentioned the old friend, people being shot and his uncle/father being killed. "Oh. OH! Oh honey, I am so sorry. I really am." Without thinking, Layla pulled him close and enveloped him in a hug. "He is still with you, they both are, they always will be. I am so very sorry for your loss." She rubbed his back and made soothing sounds to help facilitate the general goodness she was trying to share with him. "Oh, see, a baby sister, she is one lucky duck to have such an amazing brother and mentor. I mean, you seem to be quite the catch and I am sure she and many other look up to you. You are an amazing coach, your passion for the game really showed in how you taught those guys on the team." Layla nodded emphatically, to add to her points. "I mean, see your father, I mean uncle came back and showed you how wonderful and generous of heart you are, right? even if it is flawed, it is still a good heart. To have someone so special come back and show you, now I am going to make sure you eat right, and take care of yourself while we are here, because someone has to." Layla felt this kinship to the guy, she had no clue why? He just felt close and right, she also looked him up at college, trying to figure him out. Layla never got a chance to talk to him so she had to try and find out things about him, like an email address, but once she had it she chickened out. "Me? I well, I am not nearly as interesting as you. I love plants, I want to get my PH. D to fabricate an organic food program that is both cheap and easy to deal with for small and big families, especially people on welfare, single moms and so forth. I, Uh went to a special school for special people to learn how to harness our gifts. Almost like a military school that taught us how to ride a motorcycle and stuff like that,. boring stuff that." Layla tried to pass it off as something insignificant, because then she would have to get into her powers. I love to swim, draw, sing, read books, grow all kinds of plants. I'm just a sidekick..." Layla said softly.

She looked so cute when she batted her eyes at him like that.

"It's OK. Nathan gave me a hard time about that at first. We were playing this game called I never and his was I never had a Dad who wished I was a stain on the bedsheets and I told him he was welcome to mine. But my mom decided she wanted me in her life."

He grinned when she hip checked him. "Yeah, I guess you can find love in the strangest of places."

He hugged her back tight when she hugged him. He didn't know why he was pouring his heart out to someone he'd just met but there was something about her that comforted him and made him feel safe.

He buried his head in her hair and took a deep breath. She smelled incredible.

"Thank you," he said. "You are a very sweet girl and have a really nice way with words."

"Well I beg to differ. You sound pretty interesting to me," he said with a warm smile. "Well I think you should be more than a sidekick. You've got that hero look about you."

"Oh, wow that is really just wrong, on so many levels." Layla flashed to that night when will threw that big heroes party and all the terrible things Gwen Greyson had to say to her and about her friends, the sidekicks. She looked sad for a moment and then picked up her resolve.

"Being a sidekick is a very noble thing, you are support and you have a lot to offer. I don't mind being a side kick, I relish it to be honest."

When he returned the hug, really tightly at that, she gasped near his ear. Feeling that body she just saw, and it was a flawless body at that, so close to hers was intense to say the least. She couldn't help but bite her lip as she stood there. Layla was afraid to move or breath for fear that she would do something embarrassing or even jump his bones. She let out a soft squeak though near his ear, unable to contain all of her feelings in that moment. 'No need to thank me, but you are truly welcome and I mean all of what I said. I always say what I mean and mean what I say." Layla offered an emphatic nod to her sentence, just in case.

"Well, thank you for yet another sweet compliment. You are very yourself and forthcoming when it comes to compliments. You must make many people feel truly special?" Layla added, trying to point out more awesomeness for him to see. She was sure he had bad points, but who didn't? That is what makes a person amazing, well rounded personalities...merits and flaws and all.

Layla blushed a hot red when she realized that she hadn't let go of him and that she gave up so many tells in the span of a few moments.

"Yeeeeah." Layla nodded and bit her lip, turning back to the issue at hand and that was walking, yes walking. Walking was good for the heart, the mind and body, that is what she would focus on.

"Right, so snow...snow is good. It's white and fluffy, makes me think of cotton candy and happy thoughts, cocoa and fires, reading a big book and napping by said fire, roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. The good life." Layla said with a warm, gentle smile.

Layla had a huge smile on her face when he agreed, yet more in common. This was a good start. Then she caught him staring at her and the look on his face was so intimate and it looked right through her. Layla swallowed thickly and tried to pass if off with said smile.

"What? What is it? Do I have something on my face?" Her head hung slightly and the blush was creeping up the back of her neck, she felt so surreal at the moment.

Layla groaned softly, blushed more and her face was now planted firmly in both hands. Her shoulders were shaking slightly, with a light laugh that was both embarrassed and happy. "Oh...um, thank you." Came her muffled reply, her entire frame was tense, under her clothes her arms and stomach, chest were covered in goosebumps. This guy made the young, virginal woman giddy and happy. She also thought he was truly beautiful too, but was too shy to say so in said state.

His hands felt so freaking warm and good in hers. Her face was slack, eyes were glassy. Layla licked over her lips and tried to recover. Her hands even folded over his in a vain attempt to hold onto them a second longer.
"Thank you," she manages to whisper out, her tone is slightly shocked and pleased, but she never lifted her eyes. Her lashes fluttered as she tried to recover from her stunned feeling.

Something in Layla stirred. She was in some weird new place that kidnapped her and with some guy who made her feel comfortable and sexy. She was letting her guard down here and what if that was her death warrant? She freaked slightly and took a step back. He was obviously getting to her, but what if that is what they wanted? This place, taking a crush she had at school to lull her into some obvious comfort zone and that freaked her out. Layla stammered and her hand flew to her mouth.

"Sorry, it's just...you are...this is...this is nice, it is and that is what is wrong. This place kidnapped me and then lulls me into this safe place, this comfort zone. I mean, how did they know you and how I felt...I've said too much. I...oh dear god!"

The cold, hard truth just settled over her like an icy sledgehammer. She was kidnapped, to goddess knows where and they know her, things about her, likes and wants, desires. They are pandering to these feelings and what if this was a trap? Something that sign her death certificate? Worse yet, what if this is just the beginning...?

He let her hands go when they flew to her face. He didn't want to admit it but her words hurt him. He wouldn't let her see that fact though.

"You think they're using me to lull you into a safe place?" he asked.

"How you felt about me?" he asked.

He took a step back.

"I'm sorry, I didn't think making you feel comfortable around me was such a bad thing," he said looking anywhere but at her.

Her panic was somewhat momentary. He seemed so genuine and so genuinely hurt. Layla then panicked more, but for totally different reasons.

"Oh golly, Oh no. I am sorry, I am just freaking out here. Wow, I am sorry. I never meant to...I hurt you." The last part of that comment was a statement of fact. Looking at him, she was trying so hard to figure it all out. And whatever she did figure, she just figured if this was true, this was real and genuine, she ruined it.

"Oh...Oh gosh...oh goddess. I don't know what to say or do. I didn't mean to hurt you, I didn't...I am..." She let the word panicking fall away before she said it.

Her hands came up to rest shakily against his shoulders, Oh god, his shoulders. She gulped so hard then, licking over her dry lips.

"I didn't mean, I am not trying to hurt anyone...I've ruined this, I am so sorry. Please, look at me?" She stumbled back in a daze. Her feelings were so genuine, alarm bells were ringing, but they were strangely not coming from him. She tentatively raised a trembling hand to cup his face softly. "I'm so confused right now, things are fresh and wounds are open. I never meant to hurt you, please believe me? I need you to for some strange reason. I want you to, I want you to understand and be OK? I need you to be, I am just so confused and conflicted. I just thought, this place... what if they? Oh god, it doesn't matter when you can't look at me. I am sorry. I am." Layla stepped back, looking around dazed and was about to head off in some direction. She just made such a big mistake, but so much crossed her mind.

He looked at her when she cupped his face.

"It's OK. I know you're confused and it can't be easy being brought to this strange new place. I know that you never meant to hurt me. You didn't ruin anything. I do understand. I just want you to know that I would never do that to you."

He stepped toward her when she stepped back. He caressed her cheek gently.

"It's OK beautiful girl," he said softly.

Her fight or flight response was in full go mode. Thinking he was going to rebuke her for being an idiot, she was about to turn and take off, but he stepped closer. Her entire body twisted and she fell into him, hands coming up to rest on his shoulders as she lost her balance. Eyes wide, searching his. His words stunned her for a completely different reason. Letting out a slight 'ooff' sound when she had fell against him, his body was what was keeping her up right. She basically fell right into his arms.
