No one looking at the Prince of Mirkwood would have any idea that he'd just been fighting for his life. Of course, that was one of the benefits of using a bow, that you did tend to stay safer, and therefore get less injured. But it wasn't just the lack of injuries that seemed a bit off. He'd come very close to dying tonight, and probably would have if it wasn't for for the quick actions of his companion in the battle, the Waterbender Katara.

It wasn't that he didn't know it, either. But perhaps it was just that he'd almost died so many times that it had rather lost it's shock. Anyway, as someone who was effectively immortal, he had a hard time taking the whole concept of death seriously. He understood it logically, but that wasn't enough to really hammer it home on an intuitive, visceral level.

Actually, though he didn't show it, he was much more disturbed about the shot he'd taken at their foe. Without thinking, he had aimed his arrow right at his eye. Despite all the warnings of the planet against killing, in the moment when it mattered, he had blanked that out and just acted. Nevermind that Katara had acted just as quickly, nor that the strange being they'd been fighting had quickly recovered, the regenerated eye pushing his arrow out. He had still taken an action that could have killed someone, and if he wasn't careful, he was going to end up getting hurt. He didn't know how the Planet would react, but he was sure it wouldn't be pleasant.

None of his thoughts showed on his face or in his manner, though. To the contrary, the Elven prince might as well have been out for a pleasant stroll through the woods. Side by side with the beautiful dark-haired waterbender, he walked without a sound between the trees. However, he was far from silent, despite the noiselessness of his feet in the thick leaf mold of the forest. A happy, carefree elven song was on his lips, though his bow was still drawn and ready for action. Though the song was sung in elven, the words were clear enough, thanks to the magic of the place. He was singing of victory, of an Elven hero of the old days who had gone against a horde of Orcs, and won. It seemed appropriate, though the tune was too happy and bouncy for such a disturbing subject.

That was the first hint Aragorn and Giselle would have that someone was coming. The second was the arrow that was suddenly protruding out of the chest of one of the lizardmen guards. That left only one, as Katara and Legolas strode side by side into the area around the alter.

The waterbender shook her head at Legolas’ words to her, a smile on her lips. “No. If it hadn’t been for you I would have been made into a flatbread by a tree, or something worse at the hands of that monster. Let’s just call it even.” She put her fist to her flat palm and bowed gracefully as she had learned from living abroad in her own world. If the customs had been remotely similar, she would have grasped the elf’s forearm, and he would have done the same for her, but she doubted he would know to do that. A simple bow seemed her best option. She straightened. “Hopefully our next hunt will be something far less deadly.”

Katara gladly pulled more water from the leaves of the trees to heal Giselle’s fragile wrists. The soothing water enveloped the ginger haired woman’s wrists, glowing blue before dripping away to reveal the newly unmarred flesh. A joyful laugh left her lips when Giselle threw her arms around the Water Tribe femme, and the waterbender was sure to embrace the other woman as well. “You’re welcome.” She said with a grin.

She rose a brow as she Aragorn tried to shrug off his own raw wrists. Why did men have to pretend they were made of something stronger than blood, skin, and bones? It was irritating. “Just put your wrists out here.” She demanded in a no nonsense way that would surely notify this royal man that she was not one with whom to trifle over something so ridiculous. Soon more crispy leaves fluttered to the forest floor as Katara swept her body arms around, and a blue glow soon shone about King Aragorn’s wrists, dripping away to reveal he was healed of the soreness.

Katara, too, watched the scene unfold before her. She didn’t feel uncomfortable, though she felt as if this might have been something not meant for her to see. The elf and his king seemed to be in their own world, devoid of the red head and the waterbender. This was her only consolation as she watched guiltlessly. Their love for one another showed clearly in their eyes, on their faces, in their demeanors. This truly was a grand reunion for the two men.

Her attention turned to Giselle as their arms linked, and she smiled at the bubbly woman. “The same thing that happened to that lizard.” Katara answered the other’s question, indicating the lizard that was still frozen to the tree. There were hints of pride in her voice. Why shouldn’t there be? Katara was a great bender, and she liked having that acknowledged. “Legolas managed to slow him down with his arrows enough so that I could blast him with water and freeze it around him. If it weren’t for Legolas, I wouldn’t have been able to do it. He was so fast.” She also liked to give credit where it was due. She wasn’t exaggerating, either.

That wild man has come close to getting sticking her with those crazy metal blades that shot from his fists, but Legolas had shot him away fast enough that Katara could blast him with water to make an even greater distance between them. The waterbender had felt incredibly slow next to the elf and the beast with only her normal human speed. Thankfully she was agile and graceful enough to hold her own. Plus, having a great skill like waterbending helped enormously.

Seeing and hearing the exchange between King Aragorn and Legolas sent a pang through her. She remembered the exchange between Vincent and herself, one that seemed to be the end of what had begun. She knew it was over between them, though. Vincent wasn’t very fickle in his decisions. Katara couldn’t dwell on it, though. It was over and done. She needed to face the future.

“He didn’t do anything horrible to you and King Aragorn after he kidnapped you, did he?” She had only seen the dots on Giselle’s neck and the chaffing from the bonds, but mental wounds were deeper than physical wounds. Katara wasn’t as good at healing those, but she could try.
