Entry tags:active, day 34, gray harkness, gwen cooper, ianto jones, l lawliet, light yagami, lizards, sarah jane smith

-Who: Lizards and anyone!
-What: Lizards are swarming Mirage
-When: From morning to whenever the lizards are driven off/defeated
-Where: Location 4! The library
-Rating: PG-13 for fighting
-Status: Incomplete

Of course, the lizards in the library were gleefully ripping out pages of books by the handful and tossing them in the air, letting out the lizard equivalent of a giggle as they watched the pages float down. Some had toppled over a few bookshelves and were using the now empty stacks to climb around on. Yet another fight had broken out here as well, resulting in books being hurled back and forth at each other, accompanied by angry shrieks that could be heard from the hallways. A few other lizards who were wandering said hallways came inside, wondering what all the commotion was all about.

(OOC: As the day goes on, more and more will appear. There will be about 200 total, so about four and a half for each person, including those who are staying inside, so those who are fighting will have more to take down.)

Here is a quick link to the map: Link)

Wide-eyed and staring, L was crouching beneath a desk and watching the chaos thatwas ensuing in a place he could usually rely on to be fairly static and unchanging. It was so strange... one moment, he had been reading an interesting little German book called Gedichte von Eichendorff, the next he had been diving for cover. He was hardly able to believe his eyes as he watched the lizards toss around books.

Sarah Jane heard the odd sounds coming from the library and frowned. What on earth could be causing such a ruckus in a library? Of course, she wasn't on Earth, so it could be anything. She'd intended to return a few books she'd borrowed the other evening, and then to get Luke for some breakfast, but she wasn't sure if that was the best idea, given the noise. But, Sarah Jane had never been one to turn away from anything interesting. She approached the door slowly, keeping her senses alert for anything that would tell her what was going on. She used one of the books she was carrying to nudge the door open a little ways, so she could peek through the crack.

Chaos. That was the only way to describe it. Pure chaos. Giant lizard-men ransacked the library with malicious glee, it appeared to her. They didn't seem to have taken notice of her when she poked the door open. She backed away from the door and leant against the wall, out of the way of the doors, and jotted a few notes in her journal. Then, brandishing her sonic lipstick, she turned back to the doors. She could lock the lizard-men inside with just the push of a button, keep them from going elsewhere in the resort. She was about to do just that when a thought stopped her cold. What if someone was inside the library with the lizards?

She couldn't lock it, not until she knew it was safe to do so. The idea of trapping any poor souls inside with that crowd of creatures repulsed her. She pulled the heaviest book from the pile she'd been carrying, and crept back toward the door. sonic lipstick in one hand, book in the other. She could take a quick peek around the room; if she was careful, she might be able to do so without being noticed. And then she could lock the doors. She pushed the main door open again and, keeping against the wall and low to the ground, crept along the edges of the room toward some of the overturned chairs and desks. The lizards so far seemed intent on their game of book-fight.

Gwen shot a look to Ianto that only said one thing,"Totally on it" as she dove into a section of the library with her gun in tow. As she jabbed several lizards she spotted Sarah Jane and signaled,"Got an extra stun gun if you need it".

Sarah Jane looked back as the library seemed to suddenly burst with people, all making a racket. So much for creeping about quietly. An Asian boy ran in and shouted to another Asian boy, whom Sarah Jane could see now underneath a desk not too far from herself. Unfortunately, the lizard-men also spotted not just him, but all of them. Sarah ran for the desk, toward the boy who looked frozen in fear. "Come on, leg it!" she said. She chucked her book at the lizard-men who had started in their direction. "Come on!" she urged.

She was about to grab the boy's arm, when Torchwood ran inside, stun guns in hand. Gwen offered her a stun gun, and, despite her usual aversion to anything gun-shaped, she shouted back "Toss it here!" Right now, protecting these boys was more important than her disgust at violence. She had no idea what these lizard-men wanted with them all. She shoved the desk forward, toward the oncoming lizard-men, and held out her hands to catch the gun she expected Gwen to throw.

"Catch!" Gwen tossed the extra gun Sarah Jane's direction. She jabbed several more lizards, raw rage tearing into her. She needed a way to work through the rage over losing her friends so in a weird way this was helping her.

Once Gwen had safely left with Gray, Ianto looked around to see if anyone else was still inside. The young man from the group activity he had been in was gone, along with the other who had been with him. Ianto really needed to learn the names of the new people who arrived.

He made his way over to Sarah Jane, getting a few lizards out of the way as he went. When he reached her, Ianto flashed a quick smile. "Hello, Miss Smith. Ianto Jones at your service. So, any ideas on how to stop these things from destroying the library completely?"

Sarah Jane caught the gun just as a lizard bore down on her. She fumbled with it, but managed to turn it toward the creature and press the discharge button. The lizard shrieked and ran back the way it had come before she could actually touch it with the thing. More the better, in her opinion. Gwen and the two boys had disappeared while she was getting her bearings, leaving her with the Welshman from Torchwood. She flashed him a grateful smile when he introduced himself.

"Sarah, please," she said, taking a moment to catch her breath. The lizards were quite frightening, but she was managing to keep her fear under control. Just one more group of hostile aliens, after all, and if she couldn't handle that sort of thing by now, she wasn't a very strong person. "Wish we were meeting in person under more pleasant circumstances." Another lizard approached the desk, and Sarah Jane brandished the stun-gun at it, glancing at Ianto for back-up. "Can you think of anything lizards, normal lizards, are averse to? High-pitched noises, foul odors, that sort of thing? Maybe we can drive them out that way."

Across the library, the lizards who weren't advancing on them were happily, it seemed, digging through the piles of books scattered across the floor, playing in them almost like children in piles of leaves.

"As do I," Ianto agreed, facing the opposite direction that Sarah Jane was so they were more or less back to back. Better fighting strategy that way, Ianto felt. "We could try loud noises, but I'm not sure how we would make something loud enough..." The lizards were sometimes shrieking loud enough to make his head start to hurt slightly. At least they weren't being attacked by a pile of them...

Ianto resisted the urge to go over and fight the small mob that was playing with the books. It wouldn't help getting beat up himself and books could be replaced. Wounds took longer to heal. "They don't seem to be bent on killing us," he commented with a mockingly cheerful tone.

It was nice to know someone had her back. Since there was no sign of the Doctor or Captain Harkness. Ianto was Torchwood, meaning he was capable of handling himself in a situation like this. She winced as the lizards shrieked again in their incomprehensible language. "They seem to be doing just fine on the loud noises all on their own, don't they?" she said. Having someone else around helped to calm her a bit. That, and the fact that the lizards weren't actively pursuing them anymore.

"No, they don't," Sarah Jane agreed. "At least not at the moment." She hoped it would stay that way. She looked around, trying to figure out something that would drive them off. She wasn't keen on using the stun gun again, even though she clutched it tightly. Even if it wouldn't kill, it was still a gun. "Don't think they'll just get bored and go, do you?" she asked hopefully. Probably not, she knew, but she could hope.

Light had been caught outside, but, always one to believe that the inside was safer than outside, he had eventually found himself stumbling into the library.

As soon as he saw a familiar face, despite it being one of the last familiar faces he wanted to see, he ran toward L.

"L, do you know what's going on?!"

L's head jerked up, as if he was being jolted out of a reverie of some kind by Light's voice.

"I don't know... I don't know what's going on..." he said, wrapping his arms around himself and curling tighter into his customary ball. "They're... monsters? Not shinigami... but..." he was pale and shaking; clearly, being in the presence of something this illogical was making him physically unstable.

Sarah Jane was there, urging him to move, urging him to... what was that... "leg it?" He tried to stand, but found himself rooted to the spot. He shook his head helplessly at Light... between the shouting, unbelievability of the lizard men, and all-around chaos, he was at a loss.

Light looked around him again before noticing L's obviously panicked state. He would die like this..or whatever the planet did in place of dying.

"Suck it up. Come on." Light tried to pick him up. "We'd best get you back to Laura. I'm sure she's worried sick about you."

L stared at Light as if the younger boy was mad. Couldn't he see what was going on around them?

Batting away Light's hands and freeing himself from that loathesome grasp, he yanked Light down behind the desk with him. "Do you really think I haven't thought about escaping?" he hissed. "With what's going on now, I'd never make it four steps towards the door! Trust me, I want to get back to..." he stopped, eyes narrowing. "Laura. What do you know about Laura and me?"

"I got in here just fine. We can get out just as fine. We just have to dodge well." His own eyes narrowed. "I know that she cares enough about you to hunt me down to ensure your protection after you've told her your suspicions of me. She also seems to believe you no matter what, thinking you can do no wrong and tell no lies. But I know different."

L turned forcefully away. "I don't want this right now. The last thing I need is for you to add to my sense of danger. For if you know that much about Laura... you must know enough to fear her and what she can do."

"Which is why we need to get you to her. I'm sure she can defend you from these....things." Light replied.

"And why must you continue to insist that I will hurt you? Even if I were Kira, that would be a very illogical thing to do right now."

When the chaos had broke out Gray had tried to find some place to hide, finally tucking himself in a small space under a desk in a corner. He bit his lip trying to stifle the sobs wanting to escape and tucked into a small ball.

why is this happening...why is this happening!? where's big brother..andy?...rose?...someone help please?

He tried not to whimper as one the creature stalked by.

Ianto walked purposefully towards the library. As soon as he had seen Sarah Jane's journal message, his first thought was to make sure that they didn't ruin the books. When he arrived and stopped in the doorway, Ianto had to stop and stare for a moment at all the chaos. Hundreds of books lay in ruin, pages ripped out and scattered all around. Ianto held up his stun gun, anger surging through him. What ever the hell these lizard things were, they were not going to just walk away from this.

He glanced around and saw the person who had been in that swimming activity hiding under a desk. Not far away, he spotted another figure huddling under a different desk. This person he also recognized. "Gray?" he murmured. Ianto entered the room, heading towards the desks. Books could be replaced but people couldn't. "Gwen, go and help him!" he instructed to his teammate, motioning towards L. Someone he didn't know had made his way over to L; a new person, Ianto believed.

A lizard lunged at Ianto while he made his way over to Gray. Ianto made short work of it by shoving his stun gun into it. It jerked for a moment, then fell to the ground, knocked out.

Ianto ducked down so he could see Gray better, hoping he wouldn't frighten the child by sudden movements but now was really not the time to be moving slow. He held out his hand, glancing back and forth to make sure that no lizard was ready to jump on him. "Come on, you should get back to your room."

Ianto grasped Gray's forearm, tugging the child towards him. "No one's going to take you, just stay with me," he said firmly, meaning both physically and mentally. If Gray had a flashback now, it could cause problems and Ianto just wanted to get Gray out of there so he could continue fighting and taking these things down.

Ianto was suddenly slammed into the ground, the breath knocked out of him, as a lizard jumped on top of and pinned him. Ianto kicked out viciously with his foot and the lizard howled in pain, backing up a bit as it connected. Ianto planted his foot squarely on the lizard's chest and shoved backwards as hard as he could, getting it off of him. He quickly got to his feet as the lizard quickly recovered and lunged at him again. This time, he was ready though, and the lizard ran right into his stun gun. It slumped to the floor and Ianto pushed it to the side before returning his attention to Gray, holding his hand out once again. "We've got to go now, Gray." His kept his tone calm but firm.

Gray had started moving towards Ianto when the man got knocked back, causing Gray to cry out in fear and surprise.

When Ianto had beat back the lizard creature and held out his hand Gray dashed out and took it, gripping it tightly. He wouldn't trip this time. He would not let go.

Spike had been asleep, but his sensitive hearing had heard a lot of fighting, and from scanning the journals he'd found some lizard men were abound. Fighting was better then sleeping, any-day. He'd been out of his room like a shot, stopping just before the sunlight, old habits, and dashed out and across to the main building with minimal flames.

Now he was stood in the library door. Smelling the air, a few dozen racing heart beats thrumming in his ears, five nearby humans, and quite a few lizards. Who smelt funky he decided. He laughed near loudly, shouting as he leapt a good ten foot forwards in excitement, smiling maniacally as he found himself in the way of a lizard heading for the girl, guy and child who's heart beat was going double time. He didn't even switch faces as he kicked out hard at the creatures chest, superior strength sending it flying back, whooping with joy as he observed the library now battle field.
