open 🌸 all week
[It’s been a few days since the negative week is over – hopefully you all made it through and were able to get the things you needed. And if not, hey, things are relatively back to normal now – good konpeito enough to buy what you need and pay your rent. The days are steadily getting cooler, well into fall now.

As always, the sakura tree in the center of the park is flowering, with little quests hanging from its branches. Perhaps you’ve noticed it the last few days – the call to keep things safe, to clear away monsters, to protect people. A simple enough task, and perhaps for many easy to dismiss – things seem relatively peaceful right now. But for those who know to expect something from Miracle Country, perhaps you know that something is on the horizon…

And sure enough, over the next days, the magic will weave into place. You’ll turn around and suddenly your best friend is a child – with all those memories of only ever having been that age. All around you, people are getting younger. Or, perhaps, they’re made younger but retain their mental capacities, realizing this is another trick with magic. Or even, perhaps, the magic manipulates – creates a child who believes they have always been there, a child. It happens suddenly and, once must assume, it will end just as suddenly. Eventually.

Regardless, it’s time for some quick thinking for those who remain adults – suddenly, there are younger people to take care of, children or teenagers, or whatever it might be. It’s going to take some adjustment, certainly. Luckily you cleared away all those monsters, right?]

[After that he drops the smile, however, adopting a more sincere, questioning look.]

Am I then to lay my faith unto you, trusting that you will help? What would you have me do in the meantime?

[Of course he has no plans nor any incliniation to do anything of the sort, but. sincere tone it is.]

[Please don't become his step-brother, Seb.] [His own expression falls a little, because even a jerk like you speaking of having ~faith~ in him rather. shakes him.]

[...] I don't know. Wait? You've waited so far, afterall. [What's a while longer gonna do.]

[Sebastian's expression, too, falls accordingly, and he's quiet for a long moment as he looks up at Lucifer.]

I have waited for a very long time, yes. I am ravenous. It has been to the point of painfulness for a time, now.

[Don't you just feel

awful

denying him food? Don't you, don't you?]

Good! So you're used to it by now.

[Ah, foiled again. Let him try that again, then: he pauses very briefly, as if surprised by that nonchalant answer.]

...Ah. And this is how you care for your subjects?

[And here he was, all prepared to ~put his faith~ in you. How ~disappointing~.]

Trust me, if Maze ever turned into an urchin whining about wanting to eat human souls, I'd do the same thing with her.

[But daaaad (kind of).]

That answers my question quite succinctly, I suppose. [Poor, poor Lucifer's subjects.]

[He sighs.]

The creatures in the forest, then? Care you more for their well-being than that of your demons, too?

[Can Sebastian go eat them instead and maybe conveniently ~forget~ to promise to stay away from the humans?]

Would those work any better than [gestures towards the bakery] cakes or anything else?

[He shrugs, annoyed. Whatever, it's not like Lucifer cares!!1 anyway.]

If they have anything resembling a soul, it might fill me up a little. I have never tried it.

Some animals do have souls. [Heaven is filled with dogs.]

Those, then?

Everyone here consumes meat for their survival - this cannot be much different.

[Aside from the fact that those animals' souls won't go to Heaven, but, from the sound of it, it's not like Heaven needs more dogs.]

I shall stay away from that farm, then.

[He's kidding, and the corners of his mouth turn slightly upward to show it.

He looks up at Lucifer expectantly. Go on, then, let go of him. No need to make him promise a bunch of stuff; he'll be very good.]

[He genuinely doubts that.] [Looks very uncertain, but does slowly let him go.]

Remember it isn't a sin for angels to hurt demons. [Don't mess up or he'll wreck you!!1! or cry, maybe. Depends on how bad the messing up is.]

I shall. [His smile widens.]

I shall remember, also, that angels will avoid sinning. [Unlike demons.]

[And with that, he's gone - quickly enough that to the human eye, it looks like he simply disappear. Why hide the full extent of his abilities from a creature like Lucifer, after all?]

[His quick departure meaning the knee-jerk like response of him not being an angel anymore, and you shut up, won't get said. Not that it would've had much weight to it, with his current feathery situation and everything.]

[Lucifer didn't make him promise not to kill anyone. What a colossal mistake.

All the same, Sebastian isn't stupid. Young and impulsive and hedonistic, but not stupid. He expects Lucifer not to trust him; expects him to keep an eye on what he's doing and what he chooses to pursue... at least initially. So Sebastian will just be very good, initially, and go have some unfortunate animal instead of a human. He's hungry enough that one measly soul won't fill him up completely - there's plenty of time to have more later, once he's sure he's been left alone. And souls are souls, whether they're delicious or passable, aren't they?

Sebastian doesn't make it to "later", however. He makes it to the forest, and to an unlucky deer, and to his claws burrowed deep into its flesh and his shadows enveloping and muffling the animal's pathetic cries.

That's when the event ends and Sebastian is returned to his normal appearance: with the deer's carcass on the ground before him, its blood on his hands and on his (usual, right-sized) clothes, and the taste of its subpar, disposable soul in his mouth.]

[A tragic moment Lucifer won't get to witness initially, not when he's got his own business to attend to. But eventually he does remember this... situation at hand, and does start to grow worried. He can't exactly trust Sebastian to do the right thing, not when he appears incapable of even knowing what that thing would be.

So he'll set out to find him, hoping his first attempt to search by the forest would be right. Otherwise he's left to do Dad-knows-what and that'd be a lot more difficult for everyone involved.]

[That's just as well - it means Lucifer misses out on those first few moments where Sebastian just stands there, disoriented, piecing together what just happened. It's more pleasant for everyone involved that he be alone for that.

That first attempt by the forest, at least, turns out to be right: Lucifer will see Sebastian emerging from the outskirts, clothes drenched in blood, carrying the deer carcass with one hand.

He doesn't look angry, or even upset: his expression is simply cold as he draws closer to Lucifer.

And when he's close enough he just dumps the bloody deer in front of Lucifer's feet, not even breaking his stride.

(Evidently he's not the least bit upset.)]

[Well. Sebastian, being Sebastian, had intended to bring the deer back home because what sense is there in wasting food? Now it gets re-purposed into a gift.

Sebastian pauses his steps.]

Had you come out here to be fed? There you are. I expect you are able to flay and cook that on your own.

Now, please excuse me.

[He continues walking. He's never cooking or baking for you ever again.]

[...Sebastian pauses again. Exhales slowly.

Of course he'll have to explain this to Lucifer. What else was there to expect?

Well. Seeing as all Sebastian's feeling right now is rational, justified disapproval of this entire situation, and he's not the least bit upset, it's just as well that he does explain. It will make things easier later on.]

Sir, if I may, I will be frank with you,

[he says flatly, turning around to face Lucifer.]

But first a question, if you will: what exactly were you thinking - if you were at all - letting me go earlier?

[That's very considerate of you, yes. Thanks.]

"You have my word I will leave your woman be." "I shall stay away from that farm."

Those were my promises to you. [Sebastian pauses for a moment, just to let that sink in.]

Sir, let me put this plainly enough so that even you will understand: I am a manipulative person. If there is something I want, I will twist words until I have it. I was so at that age; I am so still, now. The difference is that, at that age, I could not fathom anything being worthwhile were it not immediately pleasurable.

Follow you so far?

[Or does he need to break it up even more for your idiotic brain to grasp what he's getting at?]
