open 🌸 all week
[It’s been a few days since the negative week is over – hopefully you all made it through and were able to get the things you needed. And if not, hey, things are relatively back to normal now – good konpeito enough to buy what you need and pay your rent. The days are steadily getting cooler, well into fall now.

As always, the sakura tree in the center of the park is flowering, with little quests hanging from its branches. Perhaps you’ve noticed it the last few days – the call to keep things safe, to clear away monsters, to protect people. A simple enough task, and perhaps for many easy to dismiss – things seem relatively peaceful right now. But for those who know to expect something from Miracle Country, perhaps you know that something is on the horizon…

And sure enough, over the next days, the magic will weave into place. You’ll turn around and suddenly your best friend is a child – with all those memories of only ever having been that age. All around you, people are getting younger. Or, perhaps, they’re made younger but retain their mental capacities, realizing this is another trick with magic. Or even, perhaps, the magic manipulates – creates a child who believes they have always been there, a child. It happens suddenly and, once must assume, it will end just as suddenly. Eventually.

Regardless, it’s time for some quick thinking for those who remain adults – suddenly, there are younger people to take care of, children or teenagers, or whatever it might be. It’s going to take some adjustment, certainly. Luckily you cleared away all those monsters, right?]

🌸

You can say that, but that isn't convincing. This isn't happening. You'll have to find your entertainment somewhere else.

[Oh, honestly...]

Know you me to do things solely for entertainment?

[He's doing this for Reasons, okay? Workaholic reasons. Mostly.]

... Wait, you recognize me? [Aren't you a child?]

Well, obviously, or I would have introduced myself. [??] [Why would you think he lacks manners? /lowkey offended]

I am perfectly aware of who you are, Detective.

So it would seem. [He sighs again...]

I could not tell you why it is I remember myself, whilst the common outcome is to entirely forget one's life after that age.

[He kind of suspects it's because he never had a proper childhood to begin with, and therefore there's nothing for the world to draw from. That, or he's just special and amazing. Anyway...]

Would you mind terribly letting go of me? I hate to complain, but this is not particularly comfortable.

[He promises not to try to run away? Probably.]

[She does let go of his collar, but moves so she's standing between him and the forest. SHE WASN'T BORN YESTERDAY, MISTER.]

Are you okay? I... can't imagine this is a particularly great feeling. [At least the kids who think they're kids aren't. aware of the sudden change in body.]

[He never thought he'd say this, but: it would be nice if Chloe were as stupid as her boyfriend. All the same he adjusts his collar with a quick "thank you", pretending not to notice that strategic re-positioning.]

I will not deny it is an inconvenience, but it would not do to let something so trivial as this hinder me. [Besides, Sebastian is, when it comes down to it, a shapeshifter, and thus not as bothered by having his appearance tampered with.]

You mean well, I understand, but I am sincere in saying you need not worry.

[Chloe has to be smart enough for two people to compensate for Luci's ridiculousness. Sorry Sebastian.]

No, I'm fairly certain I'm totally justified in this. When you're like this, it's even more important that you're careful. [You are just the type to get yourself eaten because you're an idiot.]

I cannot accurately assess how "careful" I need be without testing just that. And since we now have established that I am in my right mind...

[You're not his real mom; you can't tell him what to do.]

[:|]

Or, you can just by default decide you need to be careful and not do something so phenomenally stupid.

Like I said, even if it is "stupid" I take responsibility for my own actions and the potential consequences thereof. Besides, the world stops anyone from truly dying... [so it's fine? Obviously??]

[Ugh, he doesn't have time to stand here and argue: he's behind schedule with at least fifteen minutes by now. Urgh. So much for a quick tour into the woods.

SIGH. AGAIN.]

Oh, very well. [Fine, you win. Sebastian's a doormat. He'll just have to re-schedule his forest tour for later.]

Are Mr Aramis and Mr du Vallon helping you today?

I thought they would be, but it seems that Aramis has taken a visit into his past, as well. [SIGH.] I just ran into him earlier, trying to do the same bone-headed thing you are.

Well, Mr Aramis has never been one for much common sense...

[There is no irony here. None at all. Sebastian has all the common sense.]

I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself, Detective, even at this so-called age.

Why is everyone on this stupid island so insistent on going where it's dangerous, especially in compromising circumstances like this?

[Dryly:]

Precious few of the people here are helpless civilians, Detective. They are warriors, rebels, powerful magicians, royalty - used to making their own decisions, heading straight into danger, not uncommonly against the very orders of the law. [And then there's Sebastian, who fits into this by being a completely ordinary butler...]

That, I would humbly suggest, is "why".

[Not that he's the tiniest bit annoyed with her right now or anything.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]ohdetective
2017-11-20 12:47 am UTC (link)
[She senses that annoyance (I mean, wow, it's so subtle and everything) but she puts up with 1) annoyed criminals, 2) annoyed partners, and 3) annoyed daughters all the time and she is therefore immune to your saltiness, tiny mister.]

I don't care what anyone's background is. If it's dangerous, it's dangerous. And heading in there just for the sake of doing it - and not to genuinely help someone else or keep others protected - is senseless and dangerous, regardless of ability.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]servingdinner
2017-11-20 01:06 am UTC (link)
Perhaps, then, allow people to pay for and learn from their own senselessness?

[He immediately follows that up with a dismissive hand gesture, and continues:]

I know well you will consider no such thing. It it a policeman's call to protect the public, even against itself if need be. My point is, rather, that few people here are used to such a force in their lives.

["And few people appreciate it" is practically audible.]

I'm more than aware of that. [and she can hear what you left unsaid, mister.] I don't do this job to be popular - I do it because it's the right thing to do.

A true policewoman indeed.

Well, I shall have to re-schedule the forest for later, then.

[Does he say this out loud purely out of salt? YES.]

For now, I'm sure Mr Morningstar wonders why his mid-morning cake has not yet magically appeared. [So Sebastian better go see to the bakery. Again, his poor precious schedule...]

[He was about to turn on his heel and head off, but stops. Almost rolls his eyes.]

It's no actual set thing, but given how gluttonous he is, it might as well be.

[Sebastian maybe, possibly bakes for him most days? Not for him, specifically, of course. He bakes with the understanding that Lucifer will, most likely, come in soon enough and whine about being hungry. So he might as well bake with that in mind.

...Look, some things become a habit, okay. Also how dare she not acknowledge his saltiness.]

[She's used to petulant children and partners and knows how it's sooooo much worse when the saltiness is not acknowledged, sorry not sorry.]

[.................................................. you are the strangest bitter ex she's ever seen.]

That's generous of you.
