Good Ending/Bad Ending meme
Do you get a happily ever after? Or a 'Rocks fall, everyone dies'? Why not both?

* Post your characters and set up two scenes. One with an ideal setting (They got what they always wanted, hit it big, became rich and famous, etc.) and one with a bad twist of events (They're homeless, everyone hates them, maybe they're even dying!).
* Others respond to one of the two settings (Or both in different comments, if they want!)
* Respond.
* ???
* Profit!!!

Just remember: no ending is set in stone, good endings can turn sour, and bad endings can be made better. Just see where it takes you and enjoy the ride!

There was just another vague nod, circular, trying to keep himself from feeling like he was about to fall over, even lying down.

He'd managed to turn over on his side by the time Erik returned with Hank, out cold and unaware of his sluggishly bleeding nose, the trail dark and viscous as if it were coagulating somewhere in his sinuses.

The moment that Erik sees that he moves over to the telepath's side taking his hand. "Charles?" There's worry lacing the metal bender's tone even as he ignores the fact that Hank is there. In fact he's forgotten all about Hank thanks to the sight of the blood.

Hank was right there, not about to ask Erik to move, just working around him, a sudden flurry of movement, checking on the professor's vital signs, all of which seemed to be fine, which could only be a good sign, but the nosebleed was a very bad sign, especially as dark as it was, "Has he, ah, been having any problems recently? Dizzy spells? Fainting? Anything he wouldn't have told us?"

At first Erik almost didn't hear what Hank was asking him. He was too busy worrying over the telepath. How could his vitals be fine and yet... that wasn't fine. Not one damn bit. Shaking his head he sighs, "He's been getting headaches. Pretty bad ones that nearly make him lose his balance."

Hank just made a curious, assessing little noise in the back of his throat, giving a nod, "We'll have to do an MRI, CT scan. Any trouble communicating? Slurred speech? Nonsensical responses?"

The metal bender shakes his head frowning slightly. That was... "Not that I'm aware of. He's never done anything like that around me anyway."

Hank nodded again, trying to sort out what this was, but without a scan it was fairly useless, "I'll be back with the portable MRI, it's not ... not perfect, but probably safer to bring it to him, at least for now."

"Anything to find out what's wrong with him, Hank," he says brushing fingers through Charles' hair.

Hank slipped off to Charles' bathroom to wet a cloth in the sink, wringing it out and returning, handing it to Erik, "Clean him up, it'll give us a chance to tell if it's still flowing or if it was just one shot, I'll be right back." That said he hurried away again.

There was no response from Charles, still out cold without even any eye movement beneath those closed lids.

"You need to stop this, Charles," he whispers to the telepath. "I'm not running your school." He would if it came down to that but he kept telling himself that it wouldn't. Taking the wet cloth he starts cleaning up the blood wincing, not that he notices, at how much of it there was.

There wasn't much, all told, less than a regular nosebleed, even, but it was thick and dark, more like a prop than actual blood, and it was still flowing sluggishly.
It was only a few minutes before Hank returned with the portable MRI machine, "Alright, this might get a little tricky, have to make sure he holds still, there's a brace, if you can help me get it on, we'll be set."

It was a simple enough procedure all in all, settling the brace against the mattress and Charles' shoulders, holding his head securely in place while the scanner worked.

It seemed like so much. Though when Hank comes back he gives a slight nod and helps the other keep Charles still. Making sure he wasn't moving so that the scanner could do its job.

The fact that it just kept coming, however slowly, was probably a concern as well. Hank explained how MRI scans differed from X-Ray or CT scans as he worked, though he knew he was mostly talking to himself.

Finally, however, he made a small, unconscious sound of dismay, though he pulled the professionalism back down again quickly enough, "This isn't good. We need to get him to a hospital, or, better, we need to get a surgeon here, as soon as possible."

Unfortunately Charles catches the sound of dismay and scowls. "No hospitals. You know that as well as I do. They'd try and take him apart. We need someone we can trust, Hank." Which was few or far between. "So we'll bring someone here. He just needs to be helped."

Hank shook his head, "We might not have that kind of time." A nod to the screen, "You should see this."

It was easy to see Charles' brain, even with the portable scanner and the small screen, it was speckled here and there with darker spots, "These might be tumors, might be blood clots, might be anything. It's impossible to tell without a proper scan. A hospital would have an actual MRI scanner, we'd be able to get a clearer picture and a better idea of what we're dealing with."

"So you want me to take him to some place that could kill him?" He growls. To be honest he wished they knew a mutant that could help. But he moves enough to stare down at the spots and shakes his head. "Fine, we get him to a hospital." Not that he wanted the telepath anywhere near one. But he wasn't letting the man die either.

"It's either that or let him die from whatever this is." Hank replied, only barely managing to hold onto his own calm, "For all we know he won't even make it all the way there." It was sharper than he'd meant it to be and he shook his head, kneading at his temple a moment later, adding more quietly: "None of us want to lose him, Erik."

"You don't know what we want, Hank, so don't sit there and pretend you do. I'm NOT losing him. Period. So we're going to get him whatever help he needs." And lord help them they better not lose Charles. That could send the metal bender over the deep end. "Now shut up and lets get him to the hospital."

Hank sighed, "Our best bet is to just ... not tell them who he is or what we are, which includes not teleporting right into the emergency room."

He slipped away to dial 911 then, returning once he'd done so, "They're on the way, said it shouldn't be more than fifteen minutes. We tell them exactly what you told me, he's been having headaches, collapsed in the kitchen, you carried him up here. That's all." He was already powering down the MRI machine and packing it away.

"I don't care if they know who we are," he snaps. He'd rather they teleported into the damn emergency room because it'd be quicker. Erik's not too damn sure he can tell the paramedics anything. He'd rather them be at the hospital already. They're not quick enough for him. "Right, of course." But he'd still rather this be done quicker. He doesn't want to lose the only man that's been there for him constantly since they'd met.

Hank refrained from saying that obviously Erik did care if people knew what they were, since he'd been against going to a hospital in the first place. He was smart enough to know when to keep his mouth shut.

He didn't doubt that Erik could keep a lid on things as long as everything went smoothly, but he was more than a little worried about what might happen if things took a turn for the worse.

It was Raven who let the paramedics in when they arrived not ten minutes later, and managed to convince them that she was coming along because 'he's my brother, dammit', because she knew that someone would have to be there for Erik.

To be honest Erik didn't want anyone there with them. Not one damn bit but he'd never deny Raven that. Never deny her time with Charles. The paramedics get told exactly what Hank had asked him to tell them. Not that he was paying attention to that fact. There was a lot that he wasn't paying attention to. All of his focus was on Charles, on the one man that had saved his life.

Everything was a whirlwind when they arrived at the hospital, but Raven managed to field the questions that Erik couldn't, questions about Charles' medical history or known allergies. She even managed a small smile and a quiet: "He's going to hate that" when the technician mentioned that they were going to have to shave at least part of his head to get the electrodes for the MRI to align properly.

They were assured, repeatedly, that Charles was priority one, but that they still had to find out exactly what was wrong before they could go about making it right.
