WHO: Skye & Grant Ward
WHAT: Sleep comes easily to those who are not alone.
WHEN: the morning after this
WHERE: Avengers Tower; Ward's room
RATING: TBD
If there was one thing that Ward wasn't used to it, it was waking with absolutely no idea of exactly when he'd fallen asleep. Usually, when it rolled around to 5 o'clock, his eyes would shoot open with a full account of exactly what moment his body had managed to relax enough to rest and just how long he'd managed to sleep depending upon how exhausted he still felt. The first thing Ward noticed this time, however, was that it wasn't five in the morning. It wasn't even six or seven, or something still somewhat reasonable like eight. No, lulling to his side to squint at the digital clock on the side table, Ward was more than a little startled that he'd nearly managed to sleep until noon. Not that that was the most disorienting thing about this at all.
Scrabble tiles were spread out all over the end of the bed, some having dropped off to litter the floor, presumably from where he'd kicked the bag in his sleep, and more so than that was the fact that Skye seemed to be tucked rather comfortably in next to him, using his side as a pillow. God, how late had they stayed up to play, anyways? Ward only vaguely remembered that it had been past midnight by the time that they started the fourth game, and they'd both been ready for a break by the time it was over. Of course, neither had wanted to leave a tie unresolved, but it seemed like their bodies had thought differently on that matter.
Ward wasn't sure whether it had been the game, the hour, the comforting presence, or the combination of all three, but he had to admit, he felt far more rested than he had in a long time. So much so that he couldn't even measure like he normally did, no how exhausted he still felt, because there was none that he could feel.
"Skye?" Ward asked softly, reaching down to lightly touch her shoulder. "It's almost lunchtime. We should probably get up."
