It's okay. [More people probably would have meant more people to lose back then.] I was thirteen. [See, teenager. Totally not a big deal.]

That's when Apocalypse's soldiers came to get me. They detected my mutant signature. My parents tried to protect me, so they were killed before I had any idea what was even happening. [She's actually pretty okay telling the story. It's an old one now and she prefers the happy images she's been seeing of them today to this memory.]

Let them lose most of the time and, every so often, slip in something good that makes them come back for more whatever the odds.] Why is remembering the good so much harder than the bad? This is something I don't understand. Commander Spock claims that it is evolutionarily advantageous, but we would all be more content if good memories came more easily.

There was a manual release at the bottom the door, a latch, but the water made it stick. I needed a knife to move it. Then the water pressure in the room kept the door from opening—too much pressure on the door track. My friend, Alexandra, found other cadets to help her force the door open. [He attempts a smile.] Of course there were many cadets willing to help. I was popular with Alex and her friends.
