There's probably no way I can say this that doesn't sound bad, so... hear me out before you say anything. [ She might not be nervous, but he is. He licks his lips, makes an attempt at a start. ]

You know the, uhm... the beach party? Me and Leia, it wasn't.... it wasn't just dancing. We kissed. Just once and it wasn't... it wasn't planned or even really... anything. A spur of the moment thing and I like her as a person but there's nothing going. It was just a thing that happened.

[ It's not like he cheated here but it still makes him anxious. He doesn't want to risk upsetting this friendship they've got going again. ]

And the words? They don't feel good to hear, but she already suspected something was going on from the look he had while they were dancing to the way Leia exploded at him about things. So, she's already had some time to process how she feels about it. Again, not all of that processing fell on the side of good, but she gets spur of the moment things. She gets the way this prison brings people together unexpectedly. She gets being lonely and needing affection and physical touch.]

I...might have left that night, kind of upset after I saw you dancing. Not at you. Just, you know, feelings. [She looks at him thoughtfully, knowing that wasn't the most in depth explanation but maybe he gets it?]

Me too. There are so many things I wish I'd done differently. [She had so much time to think about what went wrong. As much as she tried to drown herself in work and being with people. There's always more time. You know, the part where you're supposed to be sleeping in cold, empty, lonely beds.]

But you can't live in the past, right? [At a certain point reviewing what happened just keeps new things from happening.]

No, you can't. [ In so many ways. Emily, Maeve... this. You can't hold on to it forever. You have to let go and make room for new things and maybe he's not in a place yet where he feel like he can get involved romantically but he does want new things. That's what Leia was, a harmless new thing until it wasn't so harmless. ]

...I'm so happy that we're talking again. I missed this.

I did too. A lot. [She made so many good friends and deepened other relationships, but nothing could replace or completely fill what this left open. Which probably speaks to how significant it was but also how unwilling she was to let go.]

I want to be in your life. I want you in mine. If it gets to be too much again, tell me? I'll do a better job of listening. [Because getting kicked out completely was...not a good time for her.]

It doesn't get easier... and I've spoken to enough spouses of serial killers to know that hardly anyone believes it's nearly as bad as it really is. Don't beat yourself up too much about it.

Jealousy and fear for her safety and frustration.] I just wish...and I guess this the "I'm sorry part" that I'd just listened to you more about him. Stayed away from him more when I should have known better.

I know I don't always show it. ...I haven't always felt it, but I really do think you're one of the strongest people I have ever known. [She can't imagine looking at scenes like that ever again let alone regularly.]

[She's less afraid of that right now than she has been. There's been a lot of fear in the past couple of months for a girl who had been fearless for so long. Still, she is happy to hold on as long as he wants. She rests her head on his shoulder almost like they're just slow dancing instead of hugging.]

I'm going to the superhero party tomorrow. This is a very strange place.
