	Chill your jets. You said it yourself that you needed space. That's not screwing up. That's taking care of yourself. And yeah, it freakin' stinks for the both of you, I'm sure. ...It was getting better, you know. We've... we've actually been talking. It kind of felt like things were starting to work out. [ He pauses. Swallows. ] Until she thought it was a good idea to go after Tyki on her own. Again. Without telling anyone.

I can't be with her if she's going to get herself killed any chance she gets. This is the third time since I got back.

'Ava' was just a name for one of her options.

[He glances down, toys with a salt shaker.] Anyway, we were friends. But she did remember who she was eventually, even if she didn't want to go back to that life. She gave me a choice to give her a reason to stay but I didn't. When I changed my mind, she'd already gone.

[He doesn't look up. There's no pause to this story, just a pause while he tries to work out how to tell it.] She came back later. Erratic in a way. I didn't see it at first, I just... I wanted to fix it. I'd grown up with crazy. I thought I could do what I could for her; what I had to. For us. Izzie saw it for what it was, I didn't until - after. Ava tried to kill herself and again I'm admitting someone to psychiatric care. [Dry, humorous laugh.]

I know it's not the same. [He looks up, finally.] Ava was sick, she had... had an underlying borderline personality disorder. But I beat myself up for a while trying to keep something going that couldn't go on that way. Izzie saw it and she helped me out of that like I'm trying for you, man. Sometimes things just have to go the shitty way for both parties to make it out alive.

	[ He's not 100% sure what this story has to do with his situation, but he can recognize the behavior. Wanting to fix someone because you know what crazy looks like. Kinda, yeah. [Blunt, but that's because.] She waves weapons around, but that's just her thing.

What I just mean - is... [Alex struggles to articulate,] Life freakin' sucks sometimes. At least you're not trying to fix something you can't, you're doing the good thing and stepping back from it. Even if you love her, it's just... not going to work. So you need to get better. She needs to get better. Then maybe you guys'll have another shot. An' let a stupid guy like me just be your friend who talks about his ex-girlfriends too much. Just don't tell me the profile on that.
