[Thunderbolt and lightning—very, very frightening.

Take cover, take shelter, take heart. You'll need to take everything you can just to make it through today with so few areas really being safe.]

(OOC: DETAILS here. Mingle out and about in the rapidly changing elements or cozy in one of the shelters.)

Haruka opens her mouth and then closes it again. That might change some things, yeah. Just. A little. It's good this bowling alley's kind of dark so Sarah can't see her face right now.

She can't help but chuckle. "Rescinded. You'll make it, though. The person I heard about time from wouldn't lie."

"Oh?" She asked. "How do you know?" It's been Sarah's experience that everyone lies. Except Ludo. And maybe Sir Didymous.

Haruka doesn't have a real answer for that - just a bow to her head and a little chuckle. In most circumstances she'd applaud Sarah's caution, but from the look on Haruka's face as she thinks about this person, it's someone very dear to her.

Yes, even in the dark, this is not a platonically fond grin happening here. At all. This is also not a platonic bite of her chocolate.

"How, huh...." Haruka has it bad.

Something's happening that Sarah doesn't fully understand yet what's going on. She frowns at the other girl.

"Are you OK?"

...great, she spaced out. Haruka shakes her head with a grin. "She's from my world," she summarizes, and decides to leave it at that - though one hand absently plucks at the blue sex-license band she's got on one wrist.

"What about you?" she asks, to take the pressure off herself. "Anybody besides your brother you can't wait to see again?"

Sarah looks over at her with some concern. Something seems off. Haven't never experienced a crush quite that serious though, she doesn't know what's going on.

"Well... I do miss Ludo and Hoggle. But I suppose I'll have to get used to that. I don't think they can come back from the Labyrinth when I get Toby back."

She's mentioned this Labyrinth before. And, combined with the worries about a little brother who's that young....It's none of Haruka's business, really, but if she keeps Sarah talking about herself, maybe the storm will pass without further incident. The bowling alley seems secure enough. All she can do for now is put this one girl at ease.

"You're leading an - interesting life back there, huh," she guesses - but is sure enough to phrase it as a statement and not a question. Her fingers break off another piece of what's left of her chocolate bar but don't bring it to her mouth just yet. She seems more interested in what Sarah has to say. In fact, Sarah seems to fascinate her.

"I don't know that I'd call it interesting. Oh the Labyrinth is for sure. But before that, nothing ever happened. I just babysat all the time because Irene seems to think that just because I don't go out with friends means that I have no plans."

Sarah is remarkably un-phased by the fact that she's in a bowling alley waiting out a storm of flying octopi. Of course, if she were out in it, it'd be terrifying. But being in the bowling alley, it's just a thunderstorm.

That's not a bad mental approach to their situation, there, Sarah. If Haruka knew about it she'd be impressed. As-is, she's glad it's starting to look like Sarah won't be needing much cheering up or anything. Resilience is admirable.

Finishing her chocolate, she crumples up the wrapper and stands, looking around for a trash bin. Seeing one, she lines herself up and casually pitches the wrapper overhand across the room into the bin, then smiles down at Sarah. "Making your own fun is important," she acknowledges with a wink. "We might need to do that soon here, too."

The lack of windows is reassuring on one hand, but it's hard to tell what's going on outside on the other. Haruka will check at some point. Maybe not just yet.

"We're in a bowling alley. If you find bowling fun, there's always that. I'm not real good though," Sarah replies.

"Normally I'd just read until things get better, but the light's not too good and I don't have a book anyway..."

"I'll play if you do." Haruka's not about to only set up pins for herself and then just knock them over again. That would be silly. Two people bowling makes manually resetting the pins both more practical and more feasible.

Then again, she's also fine with sitting and thinking. They certainly have enough to worry about here.

"OK. Is there any paper over there to keep score with?" Automatic scorekeepers are still somewhat rare for her time.

They're probably out of order anyway, so that's a good point. Haruka pushes herself up from the table to go see....only to return with a pencil nub and a stack of napkins.

"We'll improvise," she proposes. "You know the game?"

She'd had to teach her last bowling companion here the ins and outs of the game, but Sarah seems familiar, which is good. She also doubts Sarah will recommend a version of the game where the pins explode. Haruka's last game of bowling here in the dome was....odd.

Good point, except for the "other worlds" thing. Seems like a moot issue in this case, though, so Haruka just shrugs - you'd be surprised - and heads to the racks of bowling balls to try and find one that's a good weight for her. Depending on how far back the balls go, they may have to replace them every time if the machines aren't working......ah, this might turn out to be a pain. Well, they can play a few frames and see how it goes.

"You first," she offers. She'll fix Sarah's pins.

"OK..." Sarah picks up the ball she had decided on. It's been a while as she's reminded when her first ball goes directly into the gutter. "Oops..."

Haruka laughs and ambles out into the lane to push the ball right back at Sarah, making a mental note of the score (or lack thereof). "Warming up," she supplies with a grin. You can get those pins. She has faith.

"I never said I was any good," she retorts, but she tries again, and manages to hit a pin. "So you'll likely win."

And here's that pin back where it should be, and Haruka wanders back out of the lanes to select a ball for herself. "Don't count yourself out just yet," she encourages Sarah - but when she whips her own ball down the lane she barely even looks, yet manages a strike. Whoops. Should she have tried to handicap herself?

Sarah shrugs and walks to the end of the lane, just in time to watch Haruka knock down all the pins.

"Right. 10 to 1." She grins. "Somehow I think you'll do a decent job of counting me out regardless."

She fetches the ball though and resets the pins.

Haruka shrugs. She'd like it to be a modest shrug except, well...she doesn't actually know how to do modesty. These are her abilities. Nothing anybody can change about that. "Winning isn't everything."

She'll cheer Sarah on regardless. Competing against oneself is more important than beating other people, anyway.

Hope you don't mind the hand waiving. Can change if you'd like.

Her next run goes better. Eight pins over the course of two throws. Still, by the time the game is over, Sarah came out far below her competitor. She didn't care that much. It was fun.

Haruka couldn't agree more - and it's not because she won, no. She flicks the "scorecard" across the table at Sarah and sticks a hand in her pockets. "You did well," she summarizes, looking over towards their barricade. Is it still raining outside, she wonders. Er. Octopus-ing. (This place, seriously.)

Sarah shrugs. "Thanks. You too."

She follows Haruka's gaze to the barricade. "Think it's safe to go out yet?"
