Octonado Event
On Day 292 (Monday, October 6) the weather systems will experience a little glitch. Fear not, the wardens will be working to restore the systems! Of course in the mean time things might get a little wet...and windy...and octopus-y.
Weather events will come and go spontaneously throughout the course of the day. They can also be contained to a single sector or even just a portion of a sector. You may actually have your own personal rain cloud for awhile.
You can expect:
Rain/Freezing rain — Anything from a drizzle to a torrential downpour to rain that coats things in ice.
Flash Flooding — The rain has to go somewhere! It will be dealt with as quickly as they can get to it, but you might want to divert the water or find higher ground yourself.
Wind — This can go from a cooling breeze to hurricane-level gusts which can and will do some damage except to protected areas. Expect roofing material to peel away from buildings. Some will lose siding. Any non-securely fixed structures such as the food carts or waste bins or lawn ornaments maybe be seen blowing around.
Tornados — These will form without warning and disappear just as readily, but they can and will cause damage in their wake.
Hail — It could be a light spray hardly more dangerous than sleet to hail the size of a baseball.
Snow/sleet — You guessed it, anything from a gentle flurry to a blanket-scenario blizzard. Snow accumulations can build rapidly, but are likely to melt off or be rained or blown away before you'll have time to make a really great snowman. Then again, maybe if you're quick...
Thunder/Lightning — There will be some of both!
Temperature shifts — The temperature can rise as high as 120ºF/49ºC and fall as low as -20ºF/-29ºC. This may also cause weakening of structures.
Fog — Everything is more fun when it looks like Silent Hill outside.
Octonados — Remember sharknado? Well, there was this tornado that formed over Aurora Lake in Sector 6 picking up many of the creatures who live there as food for the inmates in that sector. This includes several different species of octopus, some of whom will be released overhead in other sectors now. Good luck with that!
Safe Zones
There will be certain safe zones set up for entry. The buildings will be shielded from the weather using the same technology the dome uses making it impregnable. This also means you must use the designated entrances. You won't be able to punch, magic, or phase your way inside elsewhere. Safe zones will be announced by the warden and include: Hospital, Main Athletic Complex, and Education Center Please note, that while the Athletic complex has water, it does not have food or facilities for cooking. The other two do.
Large-scale plotting
If your character has the ability to control the weather or shield an area, please feel free to use it! Just remember their ability is limited in Marina, and for the purposes of this event pleas assume they can protect no more than one sector and that won't last the full day. They may be able to protect a smaller area the full length of the day. You don't need mod permission for this, but you do need to utilize the *communication post. (See below.)
Destruction is a part of this event. Please feel free to notice and point out minor damage like dents in siding from hail or some missing shingles or a leaking roof or broken window. For more significant damage we're going to kick things off! The day listed is the day of the week (which corresponds to the time of the day) you can expect it to occur.
Library: (Tuesday) It will be extensively damaged by a tornado. The roof is completely missing and one of the walls has crumbled. Expect a booknado near you!
The Tier: Sector 3 Apartments (Thursday) Will have major flooding in the ground level. (You can always assume you live in an undamaged apartment above the ground floor if you live there and don't want your apartment temporarily ruined.)
Movie theater (Saturday) Lightning shorted out it's systems before setting them on fire! The rain might take care of this eventually. You might also want to help just in case.
