Day 292 — Octonado mingle!
[Thunderbolt and lightning—very, very frightening.

Take cover, take shelter, take heart. You'll need to take everything you can just to make it through today with so few areas really being safe.]

(OOC: DETAILS here. Mingle out and about in the rapidly changing elements or cozy in one of the shelters.)

"Fairies?" He studies the fairy in picture. First instinct is tell her that they don't exist, that they are made up. But she'd already told him about other things. And walkers didn't exist where she was (what was good for everybody).

"They're just a story where I'm from."

Okay, so something between acceptance and saying they didn't exist.

"Mine too. I don't think the Labyrinth is part of my world. It just doesn't make sense. Or maybe it's a part of the fairy world... but I know I've seen them in the Labyrinth."

She shrugs. "They're not really that nice. One bit me."

"One bit you?" He turns to look at her at this. And of course the thought of 'at least it wasn't a walker' crossed his mind.

"So they are... dangerous?"

Sarah shakes her head. "I don't think so. I mean... it was like a bug bite. And I had picked it up."

She looks over some of the other paintings. "I'm fairly certain that they don't really care about people. Hoggle was treating them like pests."

"Huh... If they are biting, then it sounds like either they are hungry or you are as much a pest to them as they are to you."

That was really the two options he could think of. What options could there really be?

He starts looking at other paintings as well.

"Who is Hoggle?"

"Maybe. I think they would have left me alone if I had left them alone. Like other animals. Most of them don't attack unless they feel threatened.

Hoggle? He's my friend. I think. He's the dwarf who guards the entrance to the Labyrinth. He's helped me out a few times. But bad things seem to happen around him too."

"Or they are hungry."

Morbid thought, but they were normal for him. Morbid thoughts were kind of hard not to have.

"Oh... like what? The fairies attacking?"

"They never attacked. Just the one bit me when I picked it up. The rest left me alone."

She frowned.

"No... once I fell down a hole and he was there. And he was going to take me back to the beginning. I convinced him not to. And there was this other time I was hungry. He gave me a peach. And things went weird after that."

Carl just kind of stared at her for a moment she said that.

"I don't even want to know how it got weird from eating a peach."

Sarah looks confused for a moment. "It's how I got here I think. The peach... or how I got away from the things that happened after I ate the peach."

"So the peach might have sent you here? That is strange. And here I thought they were good for you."

"They are. I think. I don't know. It was really weird. I was trapped in a bubble and I had to find someone but I forgot who. And there was a ball happening and I was in a fancy dress and there was this guy who looked like Jareth who danced with me... But then I remembered I had to get Toby so I broke out of the bubble and jumped and then... I was here."

Breathe Sarah. You have to breathe.

Carl just looks rather surprised by that description of what happened. Was... was that real?

"That sounds like something that would happen in a dream."

"Yes. It... it really does." She looks confused. Had it been a dream? But she was here now. And that happened after she ate the peach and danced with Jareth and...

"The Labyrinth is really weird."

"Well, there's not goblins. But it seems like when things go wrong, they go really really wrong. And it's weird living by myself."

"Thank goodness for no goblins. I do wish this place didn't get so strange... I mean an octopus-filled tornado? Really?"

He's quiet a moment at that last statement.

"You mean without your family? That is strange."

Sarah nods. "And you missed the dinosaurs. They were really freaky."

She's quiet for a moment. "Yeah.. I don't think I"m all that good at living by myself. I mean, my cooking isn't all that good, and it's hard to remembefr to do things like clean the apartment until I'm swimming in dust."

"I really don't want to see those things. It sounds dangerous... even more than walkers."

"I've never really had to worry about that either. My mother did it until the world ended and then we've just been moving around trying to find a place that will work. We did have to clean up the prison though."

"I think there's a lot here that's dangerous in Sector 6," she says "and outside of it..." she continues, looking out the window.

Sarah turns back to Carl when he mentions more about his life. "I guess there's not much house cleaning to be done during an apocalypse."

"Yeah well, now it is dangerous outside of it too."

He shook his head. "No, not really. I mean, we did some whenever we found a place to stay for a while, but that's usually because who was there last basically ran out the door."

[info]labyrinthrunner

She frowns. "I just hope they don't punish people for getting injured in this. It's not our fault that the storms started!"

And then she asks. "Wait... why would you run outside if that's where the walkers are. Wouldn't you be safer inside?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]anothermonster
2014-11-03 12:51 am UTC (link)
"I hope not either."

It seemed obvious to him. "Well, first it was because people were trying to find a safe place anywhere. There are a couple of roads around Atlanta that were just full of cars of people trying to get away. After that it's because the walkers got inside. Once they know you are there, they don't stop. They broke fences around the prison because they would just crowd in and never step back, even after hours of trying to reach through it. You have to be really quiet to convince them you aren't there."

"Oh. I didn't realize they came after you like that. I just figured a barrier was good. And a house is a barrier. It sounds like the best place to be is an island in the middle of a lake or something."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]anothermonster
2014-11-04 12:24 am UTC (link)
"Yeah, an island you could clear and a river they couldn't cross."

That was actually a really good idea.

"Houses aren't bad either really, but if the woods rotten or there's a large enough window, they can break it if there are enough of them. They aren't even really trying though... they just do. And if there are enough of them in the area, any sound you make attracts them. One gun shot will draw them for a far as it can be heard."
