279 // Beach potluck mingle //late afternoon >
[ A punishment doesn't always have to be a terrible thing and Aidan is actually pretty excited about this potluck — not counting a small break for baseball, he's spent most of the day setting up and with a little help from his friends, the beach is looking pretty great. There are tables set up for the food, legs buried deep in the sand for stability and plenty of blankets and beach towels to hang out on. Candles are shoved down into the sand, ready to be lit as the sun sets and he's already got a good fire going in the fire pit, ready for barbeque.

With the waves lapping at the sand, the breeze in the palm trees and the slowly sinking sun, it really couldn't be a more perfect time for a casual party at the beach. Come one, come all, mingle away! ]

Yeah, of course! Fair warning though, I ain't so good with building things.

[ Okay, that's a lie. He's great with his hands and he knows his way around a toolbox as well as anyone with perpetually leaky roofs. Different leaks. Not the same one that continues to not be properly fixed. Either way the sandcastle has a good chance of being sturdy, if not pretty. ]

I suppose the roofs of some of the finer buildings are pretty, but not in the way I normally think of it.

[ Nodding. ] We got some folks back home that're good with their hands... or maybe they just got too much time on 'em. Either way, they carve these real nice rafters an' rakes with flowers an' vines an' sometimes just swirly bits.

It looks real nice.

I didn't know roof-viewin' was one of th' knightly duties, but I'm sure I can manage that much. [ He smiles, warmer and happier than he's felt in a while, especially while home is the topic of conversation. ] I'd really like to take you there sometime, if I can. I think you'd like it.
