279 // Beach potluck mingle //late afternoon >
[ A punishment doesn't always have to be a terrible thing and Aidan is actually pretty excited about this potluck — not counting a small break for baseball, he's spent most of the day setting up and with a little help from his friends, the beach is looking pretty great. There are tables set up for the food, legs buried deep in the sand for stability and plenty of blankets and beach towels to hang out on. Candles are shoved down into the sand, ready to be lit as the sun sets and he's already got a good fire going in the fire pit, ready for barbeque.

With the waves lapping at the sand, the breeze in the palm trees and the slowly sinking sun, it really couldn't be a more perfect time for a casual party at the beach. Come one, come all, mingle away! ]

That's me, [he grins brightly and comes a bit closer.] You're Charlotte, right? It's good to see you.

That's me! [ She works up a smile. Shouldn't be this hard to smile, what is going on with her. ] How've you been?

[It's a party, you definitely shouldn't have a hard time smiling, lady!]

Oh, not bad. Trying to stay busy. Aid my rehabilitation,

[he laughs, rolling his eyes.]

[ She joins in the laughter, but that too isn't as whole-hearted as it should. Stupid boyfriend bringing home things he shouldn't. ]

And how is that going for you? Found something to pass the time yet?

[Neil... okay, can't really relate to that, but possibly Todd could.]

Oh, you know. I've tried a couple of classes and things. And we joined the baseball team, which is pretty fun. I used to play soccer in school, it's nice being on a team again.

That does sound like fun. [ She's not that sporty herself but teams? That sound great. ] Did you give any more thought to the play?

Sort of. I still haven't thought of a good one... And I'm worried we wouldn't have enough people, honestly.

Oh yeah, that could be a problem... it'd be weird if there were more people on stage than in the audience.

Maybe something smaller, then? With only a few people or a... a monologue? Isn't that a thing theaters do? One-man shows?

I guess, maybe… I’ve never done anything like that, [he muses.] It seems a little strange. But I guess the only other option would be to perform for the robots. Or hire robot actors.

Oh, robot theater! That could be really neat! I sure haven't heard of anything like that before.

I’m not sure they’d really be interested. I mean, that’s what I like about working with a big group of people-- the way everyone gets excited about it.

Yeah, I guess... I don't know, I'd be pretty excited about a robot reciting Shakespeare.

I guess it’d be interesting, at least. I don’t know, maybe I’m spoiled from being in the City for so long, and knowing as many people there as I did. We cast Robin Goodfellow in the first play I ever put on there.

[It’s a fond memory, and he smiles at it.]

Sounds like you had a bigger population than we have here. [ She smiles. ] I guess it takes a bit of adjusting, coming from a place like that to our humble fishbowl.

It's a little strange. I don't mind, though I'll admit I do miss a lot of the people there.

[He shrugs, glancing away.]

It's not such a bad place, even if it's quieter.

That's what I think too. I miss a lot of people and sometimes really weird, really bad things happen but... at the end of the day, I like it here. A lot of good things happen too.

It's nice when you find someone like that. Someone you like a lot. [ And maybe there's a tone to the way she says that. Questioning. ]
