Evening 241 } Action } Open Mingle
[ As mentioned by the wardens yesterday, Eric is hosting a costume party. The Blood Shack is lit by candles for the evening (he remembers the last party he had being interrupted by a power outage) and a small buffet of sorts has been erected. It furnishes mostly hors d'oeuvre and finer foods, things that Caroline picked out as Eric hasn't a clue about human food.

There is blood on tap (naturally) as well as a full bar. Eric has made certain to include water, sodas, tea and various non-alcoholic drinks.

The jukebox is playing a variety of music, but patrons are always invited to pick out their own music. The dance floor has a disco ball and there's the ever present 'dancing' pole on stage if someone gets brave. Tables are scattered about as are sofas and chairs so that people have a choice where they sit.

Enjoy yourself, mix, mingle and admire everyone's costume and everyone is required to have a costume in order to be here. ]

[ooc: I've turned off replies so if you want Eric's attention please tag his thread. Mingle here, have fun and be merry? Everyone is invited, including and especially newbies. ]

[It was Eric's party, Klara couldn't miss it when she knew that. She had been nervous, but it was like a Halloween party for friends, so all she had to do was get a costume and show up. She didn't need a date. Not that there was anyone she would have thought of as one anyway.

She comes in a 1950s poodle skirt, black blouse, saddle shoes, and scarf. Her hair is pulled up into a simple ponytail and she managed to spiral curl it--and burned her hand but that had healed already. She avoids the dance floor, but watches everyone on it. For the most part she stays near the bar where she felt less noticed. If someone came by, she'd greet them politely, she wasn't quite sure what else to do. Maybe she could ask the person playing the music to pick a song she knew...]

[Saetan looks a bit awkward in his plastic devil's horns and pitchfork but he manages a smile at a familiar face.]

How lovely to see you again, my dear. You look very charming.

[He has no idea why there's a dog on her skirt, and decides not to over-think it.]

[Klara wonders if he's not good at picking out costumes considering how little effort a devil costume like that takes. She almost feels amusement, but it's somewhat submerged by the embarrassment she feels after their last conversation. She talked about things with him that she had only spoken to Eric about.

Her uncertainty does not show on her face, if anything she becomes more stoic, although she does give him a brief little curtsy in hello. It's what her costume calls for.]

Thank you. Yours is very...classic. [What else can you say about it?]

[He does indeed give off the air of someone who generally considers themselves to be too dignified for this sort of thing. He seems a little awkward with the silliness of it all, but it doing his best to be a good sport about it.

She's not the only one thinking about their last encounter and wondering if perhaps they shared too much. He doesn't talk to many people about the mistakes he's made with his son, and in retrospect it all seems like quite a lot of personal things to burden a stranger with. Still, he smiles and does his best not to let his worry show. Its not her fault after all.]

I've been told it goes with my job in some worlds. I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to be using this for. [Indicating the pitchfork.] Intimidation, I suppose?

It's probably meant to disembowel people as a means of eternal torment for their sins.

[Spoken somewhat bluntly, but her tone is as polite as possible.]

[Klara thinks of him more like Hades of Greek Mythology, instead of Satan. He just doesn't suit the way the Bible depicts him. She looks down at the poodle briefly.]

It was a fashion statement in the 50s. It's called a poodle skirt because of it. I don't know it has any special meaning, but people liked them a lot back then.

Well I know a few dogs at home who will be delighted to hear that. They're all quite of the opinion we should be listening to them more anyway.

[She pauses and wonders what he might mean by that. Considering what she knows in her own world--and what she doesn't, but has assumed--she isn't sure if he means that literally or not.]

Real dogs? Not...werewolves or anything like that.

[ it's the poodle skirt that draws helen to her in the first place, as her own costume is very similar. she doesn't know who this is, but in spite of the situation, her motherly instincts are kicking in. ]

[At the sight of her, Klara immediately wants to back away. She should have worn the pirate costume she had found. At least pirates end up looking differently somehow. She's self-conscious and uncomfortable but her face is primarily blank, shuttered.]

[ a shy companion gives helen something else to focus on rather than her broken heart and confused emotions, and she smiles gently in an effort to help assure klara that she isn't here to torment her in any way. ]

Perhaps not, but you wear it well. It isn't often I see anything from that decade these days. [ which suggests she's older than she looks. ]

I don't believe you and I are acquainted. My name is Helen Magnus. May I ask yours?

[Klara isn't a good judge of age herself, considering. Her parents had been old to her when they were in their thirties and now she's stuck in the body of a child.

Her name on the other hand does catch Klara's attention. Her fingers twitch, sliding as if to smooth out a wrinkle in her skirt.]

I'm Klara. Klara Guildsen. Eric... He's told me about you.

A pleasure to meet you. [ though, she looks a little surprised at the mention of eric. true to his word, he never gave her a name, but she's starting to wonder if this is the person he meant. she won't assume, however, and will let klara confirm or deny at her own desire. ]

Did he? It would seem my reputation precedes me, though that isn't always a good thing. [ she's joking and the gentle smile she affords klara says as much. she doesn't want to frighten her. ]

He's quite right. I'm one of the doctors running the clinic in Sector 3 and we're capable of treating a variety of injuries and ailments on a variety of people.

[ at this point, it's entirely up to her what she does or doesn't want to say. helen won't assume anything or force it out of her and at the moment, she's going to simply enjoy the talk for what it is. ]

I certainly hope you never have need of my services, but in case you ever do, you're more than welcome to seek us out.

[Does that mean she would rather Klara not talk to her? No she's just saying she doesn't want her to get hurt. Klara shouldn't assume the worst. Just focus on the topic.]

I...[What else could she say without sounding redundant?] I was told we get in trouble if we're injured and go to the warden's hospital. Is yours the same?

There's a tiny, small smile at his compliment.]

I'm used to having time on my hands. [And a lot less space to waste it in.] Games and projects would likely keep us occupied longer. Parties are...not bad. [She still feels out of place, but won't say that.] But they are only for one night.
