day 225 | xiii ❧ potluck mingle!

[ this is her first time doing one of these without gran, and something she thought was going to be difficult for those very reasons is actually rather therapeutic, heartwarming -- a glance back at her roots, back when she was just adele stackhouse's weird granddaughter and not that fae who mingles with vampires. sookie contributes a few dishes from her gran's old recipes, along with something lafayette taught her to make. she's got all the tables in this part of trois park covered with checkered table clothes of varying colors, lots of plastic silverware, paper plates, cups, and napkins at the ready, and a stack of picnic blankets folded up on one of the benches for those who wish to sit on the grass instead of at a table. sookie even brought a long a mesh bag full of sports equipment -- or rather, a couple frisbees, a football, soccer ball, basketball, and even some hacky sacks. (she's not the sports type, but jason would always be off playing something with the other guys.)

hopefully she didn't leave anything out. hopefully this will help cheer everyone up some, both the new arrivals and those still dealing with the days they spent in that other prison. ]

[That old fantasy again?]

I wish I had known you were in trouble. This isn't the first time that Euphemia has done this...

[She makes a face, before shaking her head]

The very last thing I would have wanted was to involve Zero. The whole time I was with Euphemia I was trying to keep her away from you, and Hikaru-kun, and Yuuri.

[With a small shrug, she sighs]

I thought I had her convinced that I wasn't Japanese, but when I tried to contain her things went south.

[Euphemia isn't overly strong or athletic, but she took Yuuki by surprise nonetheless.]

...

[He never realized that before.]

Do any of us even need to wear communicators in our apartment?

Ahaha, I only wear it around the apartment when listening to the network.

[Because otherwise the device can be a little annoying.]

It's nice being able to understand one another without it, isn't it?

I didn't even realize. I barely notice it's on anymore.

[He's been here too long.]

But it made all of us targets, to whatever it is that possessed Euphemia-san.

She was under a type of compulsion. You've actually been the one to cure her before.

[Which might be more of the reason Euphemia felt threatened by Yuuki.]

That's... what I found out. I wasn't able to do anything this time around, though.

[It seemed unfair that they were all depowered, and yet whatever it was that messed with her remained.]

No, you wouldn't have been able. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it in part to make us more grateful for the things we are provided and given here.

[It wasn't like they had a ton of control over everything here.]

Ugh... the wardens have bad personalities.

[Whoever has programmed them has poor taste.]

Euphemia doesn't deserve whatever happened to her to make her do those things. You'd think they would be able to fix it if something like that would happen.

They don't care.

[Of course they don't. She remembers what happened before they fell asleep and woke up in Marina Nova.]

We're just an experiment, here. They're just using the excuse that we're criminals.

[But...he'd still rather be here than back home.]

[A small sigh]

I wish more people agreed. It bugs me that some people honestly believe they are genuine criminals. Even if the 'crimes' are really things people have done, it doesn't mean they are deserving of prison. Not in all cases.

No. But we're still held against our will. And ultimately, the wardens are able to do whatever they want to us.

[Which is true but at the same time, doesn't change his opinion on everything.]

Yet it's still infinitely much better than home for some people.

Yes, but some of us have experienced more traumatic life changing experiences out of our control so this doesn't seem as dramatic as others.

There was no cure in her world for what happened to her. If I recall my facts correctly,[Which he's not well aquainted to her, but there was a time that a large number of people that inhabited the dome were from her world.] Euphemia was killed in order to stop her.

[By now he's growing irritated and is taking this a little more personally than he probably should. Hands clenching tightly into fists, he turns to walk away and get some needed distance between them for a bit.]

Most people that have nothing but death to welcome them home aren't exactly scrambling to find a way back home to meet their fate.

[Before he can leave, her fingers snatch hold of the back of his shirt.]

Wait-

[He can't just do that. Walk away like that. After their conversation it can't just end right there.]

You don't like when I try to run off... so you can't do the same to me, either.

[Grip firm. She refuses to let go.]

Why are you so upset? Because I am frustrated with the warden's reasons for dragging us here? Don't misunderstand. I'm not saying that I don't like it here. Or that I'm eager to return home. It isn't like that.

[The riot of emotions that had forced him to turn away remained in motion as his body stopped from her hold. Each feeling gnashing deep within his body, overwhelming him as she speaks. He knows all this, at least somewhere within himself he realizes it. But getting his thoughts out were a different issue entirely.]

I don't--I can't---

[The words refuse to come. Hand reaching down to grasp hers, his body shifts in her direction as he tugs. The words may not come but there is something he's always been able to do better than words when it came to her.

Frantically he clings to her, not letting her go--grasp tight around her body. Hand threading through her hair to press her head against his own chest. The very thought of losing her---he can't even manage.]

[Buried against his chest, her eyes grow wide with the sudden, desperate movement. Crushed within his arms he holds her tight in a relentless embrace. The confusion and surprise doesn't last long, understanding dawning when she realizes what has him so upset.

What he's upset about... is losing her.

Heart heavy, her eyes drift shut as she draws a breath, taking in his scent and listening to the steady beat of his heart.]

I understand...

[This time her own arms wrap comfortingly around him, gentle and warm.]

It's okay, Zero. I'm here with you. It's all right.

[Don't worry about the future. Just the right now.]

[Most don't realize how deceptively fragile Zero is. But living in the here and now is honestly about all he can do these days. Thinking of the future is enough to send him into a panic attack about what's to come and thinking of the past is covered in too much pain regrets and very little 'good'.

He is strong in both mind and spirit usually so when something is too much for him, he's apt to try to bottle it up. Which Yuuki knows.

But always she's there for him when he needs her. He can't fight that need.]

I've lost too much. I can't lose anything else.

[And there--in the middle of this function he clings to her still.]
