day 225 | xiii ❧ potluck mingle!

[ this is her first time doing one of these without gran, and something she thought was going to be difficult for those very reasons is actually rather therapeutic, heartwarming -- a glance back at her roots, back when she was just adele stackhouse's weird granddaughter and not that fae who mingles with vampires. sookie contributes a few dishes from her gran's old recipes, along with something lafayette taught her to make. she's got all the tables in this part of trois park covered with checkered table clothes of varying colors, lots of plastic silverware, paper plates, cups, and napkins at the ready, and a stack of picnic blankets folded up on one of the benches for those who wish to sit on the grass instead of at a table. sookie even brought a long a mesh bag full of sports equipment -- or rather, a couple frisbees, a football, soccer ball, basketball, and even some hacky sacks. (she's not the sports type, but jason would always be off playing something with the other guys.)

hopefully she didn't leave anything out. hopefully this will help cheer everyone up some, both the new arrivals and those still dealing with the days they spent in that other prison. ]

[It's nice how simple things are with Zatanna, even if there is irony in that he has more friends he's somewhat comfortable with in prison than he did back home. Back there, he had Virgil and a bunch of friends he hung out with but didn't really let in.]

Maybe when we get out we'll set up some interdimensional cellphone. You know, so we can stay up to date on all the details.

Between the two of us, Rich, I'm sure we could figure something out.

[Science and Magic. Together again. ...not quite for the first time.]

You could build it, and I'll find a spell that can span through the dimensions. It'll be like our own, private hotline to each other.

Honestly, we could start working on one at any time. Not like we have much else to do around here, right?

Private interdimensional hotlines sound like the best kind of hotlines. We don't even have that direct a line to the Justice League back home.

[And he's not one of those guys who thinks magic and science are incompatible. He thinks magic is a special kind of science that only a few people can use.]

I wouldn't mind. Maybe we could start with some kind of bypass communication system. I've already been working on one that doesn't use the network so it's off the radar for the eyes in the walls.

[She only has the vaguest idea what a 'bypass communication system' would entail, but it sounded technical enough for her.]

What, like a line that goes directly from your room to mine? No public transmissions?

Pretty much. Or directly from my communicator to your communicator or whatever device we come up with. Wouldn't it be easier if it's something others can't hack?

[Sorry for all the techie speak Zee, he does get like this.]

[She glosses over the techie speak. It wasn't that bad. So far.]

I like the idea of others not being able to hack our private chats. You sure that's even possible, though? I mean...some people here are pretty good at that sort of thing.

They're good, but keep it real, Zee. Don't insult my supergenius cred. I hacked the WatchTower back home once. I can lock are communications down enough that no matter who hacks, even if they managed to break some of the code, it would alert me and I could lock them out.

[Trust him when it comes to this kind of thing. He knows what he's doing.]

[He smiles at her.] Thanks. Now why do you look like you need a nap? You not getting enough beauty sleep with how busy it's been around here?

[Only because you're you does she let the comment slide and skip straight to the explanations.]

Insomnia.

Old habits die hard, you know.

[He loves you, Zee.]

Sleep? Who needs that? [In Richie's opinion, sleep is a conspiracy against innovation.] Maybe I should come up with more fun things to wear you out during the day.

[Love you too, Richie.]

Last time I checked, we do. Sometimes.

...you realize that sounds so wrong out of context, don't you?

[He is quiet for a moment when she asks that and rethinks his statement. This leads to bright red ears and Richie trying to not be as embarrassed as he is. To prove how not embarrassed he is, he gives a laugh and shrugs his shoulders.]

No more than us getting up to things in the middle of the night when everyone else is asleep.

[It would have worked, too, it if hadn't been for those red ears. She laughed openly, leaning back.]

Only because you're one of the only guys I know who can keep up with me. [Grin]
