day 225 | xiii ❧ potluck mingle!

[ this is her first time doing one of these without gran, and something she thought was going to be difficult for those very reasons is actually rather therapeutic, heartwarming -- a glance back at her roots, back when she was just adele stackhouse's weird granddaughter and not that fae who mingles with vampires. sookie contributes a few dishes from her gran's old recipes, along with something lafayette taught her to make. she's got all the tables in this part of trois park covered with checkered table clothes of varying colors, lots of plastic silverware, paper plates, cups, and napkins at the ready, and a stack of picnic blankets folded up on one of the benches for those who wish to sit on the grass instead of at a table. sookie even brought a long a mesh bag full of sports equipment -- or rather, a couple frisbees, a football, soccer ball, basketball, and even some hacky sacks. (she's not the sports type, but jason would always be off playing something with the other guys.)

hopefully she didn't leave anything out. hopefully this will help cheer everyone up some, both the new arrivals and those still dealing with the days they spent in that other prison. ]

[ despite them being over and done with, it still stings to hear him say that he still loves elena, knowing that means he loved her while they were together. but she picks up on what he says and straightens.] No, I don't know because you won't tell us, you have some weird idea that we can't handle what you know but Matt, we've been through just as much as you. And whatever's happened? You don't need to keep it bottled up. I'd rather you be the one to tell us what's happened then Rebekah or someone else that shows up.

[ she pauses.] It's unfair to keep it from Elena, at least. [ she knows how to play to her audience.] And if things have 'calmed down' then it can't hurt to tell us. You can't just keep it from us, Matt. It's not fair.

[ oh yes it is. it is, because he doesn't want to be the one to tell elena that her brother is dead. he was barely able to keep it together while standing in the same room as jeremy's body, he'd completely break down and lose it if he had to say it to elena's face, if the delivering of that news fell on his shoulders. and yeah, he'd rather it be him instead of someone else, but he'd rather not do it at all. besides, to the elena that's here, jeremy's still alive and well back home in mystic falls. not ash in a house she burnt down in a fit of emotionless in order to be free of her old life. ]

Yeah, I can. And I will. [ sorry care, he's not going to budge on that. ]

[ she lets out a frustrated huff, her eyes narrowing for a moment.] You're being impossible, Matt. And we're going to find out eventually and it's worse that it's not from someone we care about. [ she doesn't want klaus to come back and blab it or have rebekah say it to elena when she gets mad about something and rub it in elena's face. caroline dreads that day. caroline already dreads the truth, the fact that matt is wearing jeremy's ring, every excuse he makes sounds lamer each time.]
