Day 222 — Mandatory activity mingle
[ It's a wonderful, stormy day here in Squall Asylum and vacation time is officially over! Your gracious overlords have worked out a light itinerary for you today and they expect you to keep it.

Get in line to pick up your food rations for the day. Eat breakfast if you have time for it, or perhaps you'd rather skip this one time and save yourself the discomfort during the two hours of exercise that follow. Jogging, jumping jacks or perhaps impromptu team sports, whatever you end up doing you bet you'll come out exercised in the end!

Should you not want to participate... well. We have ways to make you join in. Anyone reluctant to get their heart rate up will get a helpful electric prod by one of the bots until they comply. Tough cookies.

Luckily you'll get a chance to wash off that sweat (hope you're not shy, the wash room can get crowded) before it's time for the silent game for an hour, followed by lunch. The day is not over yet though! There's still time for a couple of hours of hard labor tending to the crops, doing laundry or perhaps breaking bricks in the yard. To make sure none of the inmates are broken this is also the time for mandatory physical checkups — bots will guide you to the hospital. No ifs or buts. The violation of personal privacy is for your own good, we promise.

Isn't it nice, being in prison? ]

((ooc: This mingle takes place during all of day 222. A bullet-point for of the itinerary can be found here, where we also encourage you to direct any questions. Event info is here if you need it. ))

Wouldn't that be an interesting theory to prove. [ it's much better than the current theory, at any rate. ] If it's true, they might never be returned, but at least we would know they're still alive.

[ it's not usually her thing to look on the bright side like this, but she'll take it. she knows other people need it. ]

Proving such a theory would be a significant challenge. However, were we to gain access to the systems required to prove it, and find it to be accurate, there is a chance we could recover those who have been "lost".

[ A pause. ]

Speaking speculatively, of course.

Of course, but in doing so we would run the risk of bumping something and losing them forever.

[ life and death. just another day at the office. ]

We'd need to be very careful.

Prior to making any attempts involving a sentient living being, we would need to acquaint ourselves as fully as possible with the technology; were we to gain access, we would learn all that is possible to discern about the means by which it functions from one point of access. It would also be wisest to attempt to relocate and retrieve an inanimate object prior to attempting anything more complex.

The issue with such a theoretical endeavour, of course, would be that those in overall control of what is likely a network of numerous facilities would be alerted to our efforts prior to our being able to pursue any such efforts.

[ Ah, a nice touch of frustration from his emotion chip. He's starting to get used to that sensation. ]

In other words, our hands are tied at the moment. I don't know of many who would be willing to put innocent lives in danger just to leave.

[ either way, it's making her head hurt a bit. ]

It isn't an endeavor to give up on, but one we must take with caution. We can't afford to lose anyone in our attempts. However, if we ever do find ourselves in another facility or back in the othe, it can't help to compare notes.

Precisely.

[ And he gives a small shake of his head. ]

We must continue to gather intelligence and investigate all of our surroundings as thoroughly as possible - only through establishing a thorough working knowledge can we develop an understanding of how we may be able take action without unnecessary risks. At present, there is too much that remains unknown about our situation, and it would be unacceptable to gamble lives on that uncertainty.

Exactly what I was thinking. The more we can gather, the better. As unhappy as most of us are to be here, it does prove to be a necessary evil in regard to learning more about this network of prisons. If I do find something while we're here, I'll be certain to bring it to your attention.

I find it is often true that even the most unpleasant of circumstances grants us an opportunity to further develop our experiences and expand the knowledge available to us.

[ And he gives a dutiful nod at her offer. ]

I would be most appreciative of that. As my nature grants me the ability to accurately record any information to which I am exposed, I am continually in the process of gathering as much intelligence as possible.

Of course. I see no reason why we can't work together. I look forward to speaking with you again.

[ and perhaps by then, she'll have more to offer. ]
