Day 222 — Mandatory activity mingle
[ It's a wonderful, stormy day here in Squall Asylum and vacation time is officially over! Your gracious overlords have worked out a light itinerary for you today and they expect you to keep it.

Get in line to pick up your food rations for the day. Eat breakfast if you have time for it, or perhaps you'd rather skip this one time and save yourself the discomfort during the two hours of exercise that follow. Jogging, jumping jacks or perhaps impromptu team sports, whatever you end up doing you bet you'll come out exercised in the end!

Should you not want to participate... well. We have ways to make you join in. Anyone reluctant to get their heart rate up will get a helpful electric prod by one of the bots until they comply. Tough cookies.

Luckily you'll get a chance to wash off that sweat (hope you're not shy, the wash room can get crowded) before it's time for the silent game for an hour, followed by lunch. The day is not over yet though! There's still time for a couple of hours of hard labor tending to the crops, doing laundry or perhaps breaking bricks in the yard. To make sure none of the inmates are broken this is also the time for mandatory physical checkups — bots will guide you to the hospital. No ifs or buts. The violation of personal privacy is for your own good, we promise.

Isn't it nice, being in prison? ]

((ooc: This mingle takes place during all of day 222. A bullet-point for of the itinerary can be found here, where we also encourage you to direct any questions. Event info is here if you need it. ))

[ seven would've forced one of her stiff, awkward smiles. the kind she always makes at herself in the mirror when she's trying to analyze the appeal of the expression, to judge how much one should and should not smile. that likely would not have sufficed. ]

Perhaps, but there is one thing that I am sure of, and that is that you are not alone.

[Hearing that should cheer her up. It really should. Feeling like she has friends who care about her is great, so why doesn't that make her feel better? Is she an awful person for having people care about her and dote on her and yet still feeling like she's all on her own?]

Thanks. [She does her best at a smile, possibly not unlike the ones Seven does in the mirror.] I don't really know what's going to help, but at least I have people to do it with.

Time. Things heal with time. [ another wonderful example of seven's ability to dish out relatively good advice that she doesn't necessarily know how to take herself. ] I am certain this is not the last you will see of him.

[She visibly winces at Seven's statement that she'll see Derek again. The words are intended to be reassuring, but give a voice to her greatest fear. For eight years she's worried and paced her office when Derek went into the field and came back with harrowing tales and bruises and bullet wounds, but she never before had to actually face the prospect of being without him.]

[And if she has to face that, she's not entirely sure eternity will be enough time.]

[She tries to nod, but it's amidst a new flow of tears.]
Why'd they have to take him away now? He was so upset and angry and... and I couldn't help him.

[ seven doesn't understand what she did wrong in stating that, but it's somehow upset penelope further. unsure of what to do, seven puts a hand on her friend's shoulder. ] I doubt he would blame you for your inability to provide assistance, given the circumstances. You are not at fault.

I know. [She more-or-less gets herself under control and shoots Seven a little smile.] Thank you, really. I know I'm kind of inconsolable right now but you're helping.

I wish to do whatever I can to help.

[ she sincerely means that. seven's come to value penelope's friendship a lot and she does not enjoy seeing her this upset. ]

[Garcia smiles, genuinely if a bit weepy around the edges.] If I think of anything, you're my first call. Right now just knowing people care is a big help, and you've done that.

Maybe what I really need is a fully stocked bar.
