[Day 217] [Video|Action|Open] [Movie Marathon!]
[It's a rainy day, but Richie is in a good mood because kung fu movies at the theater. Best kind of way to spend the day. But it's not as fun doing it alone when you can do it with friends or random strangers. Especially when it's the kind of movies you can laugh about because they're so terrible they're great. It's early afternoon and he's loitering a bit in the lobby before getting on the network.]

It's dreary outside, but that doesn't mean we can't do something fun, right? If they're going to show kung fu flix, we should be taking advantage of it. Watching classic kung fu with the terrible voice overs is almost as fun as watching cheesy horror movies. Anybody want to join me? We can make a marathon of it. Ko, bro, you should definitely swing by.

If you get here soon you'll catch the big end fight of The Booming Insect, and you won't miss the beginning of Master of Swinging Death Trap.

{OOC: Come on and all to the movie mingle! These two movies shown above and these other three are the ones Richie will be watching. Anyone is welcome to join and mingle amongst themselves. If you want to speak to Richie direct just tag action or video on the thread I'm including below.}

[ he's distracted today, because he's starting to suspect foul footing is afoot. He may be used to Komui being buried alive under a mound of paperwork for days at a time, but even so, he should have at least heard a snore by now... ]

Kung Fu what? [ he stares with confusion at Richie, trying to likewise place that voice. ] And who are you?

[ Before he accepts an excuse for a distraction an invitation, he should at least have a name! ]

[Richie is a bit confused by the guy asking that question since--well people don't usually ask like that anymore.]

Kung fu movies! Chinese martial arts films. Bad English voice overs-or whatever voice overs you here I guess if you don't speak English. I'm Richie. You're...?

[ he twitches slightly at the description ]

That hardly seems necessary. Can't they just leave it in Chinese? [ that is his native tongue after all. ]

And it's Bak Chang.

[ and didn't Richie seem familiar? Meh. Oh well. It's not like that Brainiac is going to come back again. ]

Well, yo, Bak-man. [Alas no one is around to be amused by his joke since Walkman's are so Y2K.] And that's the point. They're just cool old movies in Chinese. The English dubbing is so bad and that's why they're hilarious and cool.

[ alas, and Walkman's are too modern for Bak to know of either. ]

... Please tell me they didn't actually intend that to happen when they made the film.

[ and oh dear, oh dear. He could imagine the americans and the brits doing that just to spite him too! ]

The Chinese? I doubt it. And I'm pretty sure that Hollywood was more concerned about making money off of it at the time. Accuracy and authenticity just weren't their forte at the time.

[ he nearly falls on the ground and orz's at Richie. Instead, his head just sinks towards his chest in a moment of utter despair ]

I'm not surprised. They wouldn't know truth if it sat on their noses!

[ but he sighed and then squared his shoulders and strengthened his resolve ]

Very well, I will see this film and judge it for myself. And if it's wrong on every subject, I shall inform the audience of this injustice! [ or just go weep piteously in the corner ]

Ah...dude, it was the 70s. You can't judge todays Americans by the way they were over 30 years ago. [This guy is weird and sounds like he's just looking for something to complain about.] And besides, it's fiction. 'Course it's not accurate.

... I can and I will. If they managed to such a mess of things almost a hundred years past my time, they deserve a proper critique.

[ he ain't budging! However... ] It's still best if I see them for myself. What time is this gathering happening?

[ and more to the point, will he be able to find the theater in time? At the very least, he might be able to forget how empty the lab feels without Komui filling it with strange noises. ]

[Weird guy.] It's going on right now, but it'll be happening all day so if you miss one movie, there'll be others. Don't worry about trying to hit 'em all.

[ he raised a brow ] But if I miss any, how am I to make a proper judgement? [ scientific theory bro. When the pool is small, you must sample more! ]

Just pick up the movies at the store. You don't just have to watch them at the theater.

Sure, watching them at the theater is, but man if you want to judge kung fu movies, you're gonna have to see more than just the ones they show at the theater. Just go to the Media Store in Sector 2.

Media store in Sector 2. [ he sighed ] You do make a good point. However, you can still count on my presence today. [ eventually ] Good day. [ because apparently, he has a lot of prepwork to do. ]
