Mingle: Event Kick-Off
[ It was mid-morning. The sky was clear and it was a (not so) very blustery day. It was cool but it was always cool. It was neither too warm nor too hot.

Lukewarm.

And that was just how Bak preferred it. Especially since he had in hand his very important, extra special concoction of wonderful forgetfulness on hand! Bak could stand teasing, but even this was getting ridiculous.

Hefting the bag a little higher so it fit snug into the crook between elbow and shoulder, he stepped off into wild world of Marinanova and promptly had to grab onto his hat.

Opps. He always forgot about that step down.

Taking another step, he nearly tripped again, this time on a rock. Frowning, Bak starred at the offending piece of debris and then he kicked it.

And yelped.

And then held his foot, dropping his bag in a near blinding rush of ”Eeeek!” as he dived for the paper bag, watching as with a POOF half of the contents disappeared into the wind, leaving him sneezing and dazed on the ground wondering what the heck had just happened. Clearly, his own formula had been getting the best of him. It happens when one sneaky scientist messes with the formula and Bak spent the better part of the morning putting the final touches of the mixture together.

Heightened emotions indeed.

Bak will rue this day assuming he survived it. ]

((ooc: Consider this post an open mingle and the start of the Marina Feelings Roulette Event! Creating your own posts is, as always, highly encouraged. And, unless you got an extra hefty dose of it right off the bat (re: by being in proximity to Bak when it happened) feelings should gradually start to go haywire later in the day with strongest feelings in the afternoon and tapering off again as evening descends. For more info on the details, please go here. Have fun!))

We can practice.

[Because heaven knows she needs it, too. The flash of a fang is visible as her smile widens.]

I need the practice as well. I'm not used to getting up in front of others like this.

Sure, that sounds good! I'd be happy to help... actually, it'll be nice to do something different for a change. [ Never played like this before but... what the hell. If it doesn't work out he could always convince Helix to step in. ]

Something different from your class, you mean?

[Good Natured as her head tips to the side.]

It's a very serious career choice.

Yeah, I guess you could say that... [ Smiling, a little shyly. ] Actually, I never would've taken up the piano if it hadn't been for a case we were working on.

I'm kind of impressed that you would have kept up with it.

[To be honest, she has basic music comprehension and understanding. The academy her father owns is an elite and prestigious school, so they are classes she's taken. And for a short while, in her childhood she took up various instruments, but in the end it's just not something she pursued.

She prefers sports.]

So as a profiler, does that make you the same as a law enforcement agent?

It does — although, investigative police services in the USA are often called bureaus. [ Because this is relevant information. ]

Ah... it's probably similar where I'm from, when dealing with the regular police.

[To be honest, she doesn't really know how that works at home.]

I wonder if they used to have separate divisions like that within the Hunter's Association, too.

The Hunter's Association? [ Do continue. ]

It's an organization that hunts down and kills rogue vampires.

Oh. Of course. [ Right. ] You, uhm... you talked a lot about vampires during the lecture.

[At that she gives a light nod.]

Back home there aren't any laws about killing vampires, or poisoning them [Their tablet supply] or anything along those lines.

[The only ones the hunter's association finds off limits are the pureblood, for fear of the retaliation they would receive for killing vampire royalty.]

But while I say that, it is true that vampires require blood. There's tablets to manage the hunger, but- as long as bloodlust exists, there will always be problems.

[Even when she believed she was human, Aidou, a friend now, broke down and forcibly took her blood, once. But even then she didn't want him killed or truly arrested, or anything along those lines.]

When both species converge, there's always a bit of a risk, at least in close quarters. Vampires already make up a large amount of higher society, as movie stars, CEOs, and important figures. But-- there are still clear distinctions. And outside of the hunters, and a precious few individuals, regular humans aren't aware of the existence of vampires, because the government will not openly acknowledge it.

[Her brows knit]

I guess... I just wasn't sure how to handle the delicate situation between vampires and humans. And how to profile a behavior that is natural...

[ He listens in silence, nodding some to show that he's following. ]

It's good that you brought it up. I can only speak from my own perspective and as far as I know, we don't have any supernatural beings where I'm from so it's difficult to take these things into account. You've added some valuable input to the class.

[She just smiles at that.]

It's probably easier that you don't. Although who can say. For obvious reasons, I don't think most supernatural beings want to make themselves known.

You could say the same about most serial killers. [ Not that he's comparing. ] I still think it's good to get a different point of view, since the people here come from such varied backgrounds. And hey, this way I learn something too.

[She makes a face]

Mm... though I don't really like thinking of supernatural beings as seriel killers. [Reid...]

The class is informative though. It's a little dark at times [Not always up her ally] but useful information.

No, no... of course not. That's why it's so good to get a different perspective — anything vampiric in nature usually points towards a mental disorder where I'm from... [ He's trying, really! ]

The world can be a dark place.

Hah- well, if it was a human drinking blood, I'd definitely be concerned. I can agree to both.

[Thoughtfully-]

It can be beautiful, though, too.
