Penelope was still a little shocked at herself for agreeing to participate, let alone write a short article about the experience for the paper, but here she was having gotten roped into helping.

Actually getting roped into helping was very on brand for her, but generally she got to remain on the sidelines or in the background while doing so. This? This was public speaking.

Historically not a great success where she was concerned.

"Round three.” No one moved. Possibly because she’d been barely audible. She cleared her throat and tried again. Louder. “Round three, five minutes!"

Eris could empathize with Marcel. He didn't want to be here either. He'd rather be doing almost anything else even if Camille was obviously not the worst person to have to talk to.

"What, in our short history together, makes you believe I would ever willingly be here?" He replied sarcastically. "I barely want to talk to you most days and you're one of the lesser annoying humans I know."

	Cami smirked. "Oh I was 99% sure you were not here of your own volition. Considering I've started calling your tips at work my literal shut up and take my money tips." She rolled her eyes. "At least I make it easy for you," Eris offered with a lazy shrug, his lips curling into a smirk. "And you're welcome. What is it that humans say? Oh, right. Just keeping it real." He chuckled softly, clearly amused, though the phrase still struck him as foolish—stupid phrasing, really—but strangely effective in this moment.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for both humans and supernatural beings alike), Eris still found most of the creatures around him utterly intolerable. He knew, of course, that a large part of it had to do with homesickness, the constant ache for his own realm and the familiar faces that lived there. Still, knowing the reason didn’t make his sour mood any easier to shake.

Cami smiled, one of her genuine ones. "Yes, you do. Thank you." She laughed at Eris using current colloquialisms. "I can't tell if that hurt you to say or not." She meant keeping it real.

She could tell that Eris missed home. As a therapist she picked up on these things, but...she couldn't help her sort of friend. Cami couldn't help him home or bring his court to him. His homesickness reminded her how lucky she was to have Marcel and Elijah here especially, even if she missed Josh and Davina a lot. Eris would eventually work through the feelings or not, but obviously she would be an empathetic ear if he ever wanted one (though she thought that would involve pigs flying).

The modern phrasing felt awkward on his tongue, and Eris couldn't help but wince inwardly. "It was...mostly painful," he replied, his lips quirking into his customary smirk, concealing any trace of discomfort. "But fitting for the situation." Even if the words were clunky and lacked any real depth. Whatever. He hoped this didn’t mean being stuck here was dulling his wit. Ugh.

Eris wasn't expecting anyone to play his "knight in shining armor," so to speak. He was well aware there was no force that could bring his realm here, and unless this place grew tired of him, he was trapped in Madison Valley. He had no illusions about when—or if—he'd ever truly fit into this world. But tonight, that certainly wasn't going to happen.

The bell rang, signaling the end of their date, and Eris pushed back his chair, standing. "It’s been... actually okay chatting with you tonight, Camille," he said, his tone surprisingly sincere. "Good luck with the rest of your dates."

Cami believed him. Eris spoke with wit and a sharp tongue, neither of which that modern colloquialism offered. She smirked, though at his reply. "I agree fitting, but please don't take up the modern speech patterns too often. Otherwise, I might not recognize you," the blonde joked.

She looked surprised and then offered a genuine smile. "I enjoyed chatting with you as well, Eris. I hope you enjoy the rest of your dates." With that, Cami made her way to the bar to get through the rest of the evening.
