Severus stood looking out Remus's bedroom window onto Grimmauld Place, watching the unsuspecting Muggles going about their lives in the snow. He sighed heavily.
“What is it?” he heard as Remus approached him, sliding long fingers up his arms.
“'Another day's useless energies spent.'” Severus turned his head slightly.
“Never. Never useless.” Remus tipped Severus's head, tugged away the collar of his robes and pressed his mouth to the warm skin there. “If we do our parts right, the Muggles will never know how close they came to disaster.”
“There's no end to it.” He leaned back into Remus's embrace, exposing more of his throat to Lupin's teeth. “Why keep going on?”
Remus nibbled the nape of his neck, making Severus's knees go weak. “So we can have this.” He took his lover by the hand and led him to bed, undressing him gently. “The sheets aren't white satin,” Remus smiled, recalling Severus's quote, “but cream flannel is warmer, anyway.”
They made love with blue moonlight streaming through the window, fell asleep entwined, to wake up and start another day.
